ParticipantI hope I get to meet him, and I am close. I’m just two hours away from Nashville. That said, I won’t be going up there unless I hear news that it’s okay for fans to visit the movie set. Meeting Colin would be a dream come true, but nobody’s going to catch me holding onto a fence with my tounge hanging out.
haha, so officially taking bets – who thinks we’re going to uncover a pic of @Sarah_TN leaning over a fence with said tongue hanging out?!
It’s amazing how quickly indie films get underway compared to big studio films. I wonder what kind of release it’ll have and if it’ll be fairly easy to see.

ParticipantIt sounds awesome. I’ve loved the stuff History channel’s come out with in the last couple of years. And I’m loving MRJ as Revere…

ParticipantShort of watching the movie, this is an excerpt of an analysis of the movie On the Waterfront; specifically, the glove scene I mentioned:
In an exchange of small talk as they continue walking through the park, Terry learns that Edie attends a “regular college” in Tarrytown that is “run by the Sisters of St. Anne.” She is a teacher trainee, and aspires “to be a teacher.” As they walk, Edie accidentally drops one of her white mittens. Terry picks it up and cleans it off, but instead of immediately returning it, he holds it, and then puts it on his left hand – as a substitute for getting close to her.
Edie reminds him that “it isn’t just brains. It’s how you use them.” Terry has always been awe-struck by Edie, having first seen her years earlier as a teenager when they went to Catholic school together. He remembers what she was like, with simple observations:
Terry: You know, I’ve seen you a lot of times before. Remember parochial school out on Pulaski Street? Seven, eight years ago? Your hair, you had your hair, uh…
Edie: In braids.
Terry: Looked like a hunk of rope. And you had wires on your teeth and glasses, everything. I mean, you was really a mess.
Edie: I can get home all right now, thanks. (She removes the glove from his hand.)
Terry: Now listen. Don’t get sore. I was just kiddin’ ya a little bit. I just needed to tell ya a joke. You grew up very nice.
Edie: Thanks.
Terry: You don’t, you don’t remember me, do ya?
Edie: I remembered you the first moment I saw you.
Terry: By the nose, huh? (She smiles at him) Well, some people just got faces that stick in your mind.
Edie: I remember you were in trouble all the time.
Terry: Now you got me. Boy, the way those Sisters used to whack me, I don’t know what. They thought they was gonna beat an education into me, but I foxed ’em.
Edie: Maybe they just didn’t know how to handle you.
Terry: How would you have done it?
Edie: With a little more patience and kindness. That’s what makes people mean and difficult. People don’t care enough about them.
Terry: Ah, what are you kiddin’ me?He is interested in seeing her again, although he feels unfamiliar, awkward emotions for her during their departure.

The analysis contains a review of the entire movie, which is rather interesting overall if you’re comparing Neal to the main character…but crazy long so I just posted the first part.

@ellemo78:I don’t really call myself a shipper. It really wouldn’t bother me if Emma and Killian never got together. I won’t lie it is nice, yes but it’s not going to ruin my life one way or the other. I actually got annoyed when Neal died and really would have liked more stuff between Bae and Hook. That relationship never got fleshed out properly apart from that small reconciliation before Neal died. Bae obviously meant a lot of Hook, but we never saw it reciprocated. So when Neal said “I haven’t forgotten” was he referring to when Hook gave him over to Pan? Or was he remembering Hook looking after him before he demanded to be let off the ship. I still have lots of questions about their time in Neverland, but I’ll never get them answered now Neal is gone. The dynamics between Emma/Hook/Neal would have been good had they gone down the path of Emma/Hook with Neal just being an awesome father to Henry. We saw little bits back in Storybrooke after Neverland that Neal and Hook (and Tink) were starting to work well together as a team. I would have enjoyed those Neverland three bonding again.
I agree ellemo78! I do consider myself a CSer; however, I watch not just for that pairing. And because of the nature of the show, I have what I call ‘backup ships’ – if they didn’t put Emma and Hook together, and did put Emma with Neal, I wouldn’t cry foul and stop watching the show. I would figure the writers are going somewhere and watch to see where they went. They’d have to do a superb job to make me feel like SF was natural and real, but I wouldn’t go crazy over it. I had my backup ships! TinkerHook! CaptainFire! CaptainCharming! CaptainCobra! Snowing’s growing on me. Rumbelle’s always pretty interesting and surprising. So I’ve gotten to see some of my ships, but others have been blown out of the water because of the direction the writers decided to go. Sure, I’m saddened I don’t get to see some of my backup ships, especially CaptainFire, but I still love the show in it’s entirety.
Ultimately, as much as I love the romantic pairings, I watch for the entire story and every pairing, not just the ones I’m particularly fond of. I think that’s why I didn’t get upset in the finale when they ‘interrupted’ Rumbelle’s wedding with shots of CS and OQ. Because I’m not concerned with how much screen time a particular couple gets; I thought it was a lovely way to show where each couple is and how though the words Rumple & Belle spoke were to and for each other, they also highlighted where the other couples were in their relationships. It was a comment on romantic love in general in the OUATverse.

Participant@POM, I agree wholeheartedly with your last post. That’s exactly what Neal was – part of Rumple’s story. When Neal is shown through Emma’s flashbacks there is what? one or two scenes that don’t ultimately lead up to a bad ending? Even the scene in the finale – very well done, and I thought lovely – until I saw a tweet of MRJ’s saying the glove bit was a throwback to the film “On the Waterfront” and it was explained that the character MRJ was mirroring was manipulative. Now, if MRJ put that in there, in the final SF scene of 3B, on purpose, that makes the scene quite interesting – and take on different meaning…and not positive meaning when it comes to Emma. And by the time I saw that tweet, the more vocal/hating Neal/SF fans had already made me sour – so instead of reading it and thinking ‘but Neal wasn’t manipulative,’ I couldn’t help but think ‘hmmm…now his getting engaged to Tamara and not going to Storybrooke after the curse was broken and pretty much moving on completely makes a LOT more sense.’ Ultimately, the septic fans themselves are the ones who changed my mind when it came to the character of Neal. And I say that as someone who is still pretty PO’d myself about the death. I think there was a lot more they could do with the Rumple/Bae storyline, and it would have been nice to see Henry being able to bond with his biological father finally, and to see Emma and Neal effectively co-parent Henry.
But you have to move on. This is an ensemble cast and deals with fantasy storylines. EVERYONE’S favorites could be on the chopping block theoretically. Every character is expendable – especially the larger the ensemble and OUAT has one of the largest casts there is. This is not Castle, for example, where there are 5ish leads and one main ship. Plot holes and retcons and deaths – sensical or nonsensical – are to be expected. If you can’t handle watching because you weren’t ready for your favorite ensemble character to die/go away/get less screen time/not end up with the character you wanted them with – you have the option to stop watching. For me, it’s far more fun to let go of any issues I may have, and sit back and enjoy. If I get upset or bored with it, then I’ll just tune out. But it would never occur to me to harass the writers/actors, or have a giant ‘public’ stink for the world to see.

ParticipantHaha I was going to post that 1st gifset too, @callmeLola! There hasn’t been one Husbands of Storybrooke post that hasn’t made me crack up. (And ok, still trying to figure out how to post them – did you have to do it pic by pic or were you able to post the entire thing at once?)
Ugh, The Notebook. I can’t handle those movies/books, that are just about a romance. I agree, @Obisgirl, I need a nice mix in my movies!

Robin’s bachelor party doesn’t go exactly as planned.

ParticipantOk totally random question – how do you post gif sets without all the internet speak mumbo jumbo? I can never get it to work…!
Jenna_B
ParticipantThanks POM. I needed that after the garbage I just saw on Twitter. The level of stupidity out there just astounds me.
Agreed! Usually I don’t run into too much on my Tumblr; I only follow a very few blogs – but of course the stuff I read today got me curious and I had to check out Twitter (I’ve been actively avoiding Twitter for some time because it’s gotten so negative)…and that was definitely a mistake!
Although — the crud you see on other sites, and even sometimes threads here and in chat, makes me appreciate our little thread. We manage to have some good debate and yet we usually manage to keep things nice and civil – maybe because we try to respect each other??? Why is that such a difficult concept lately? Look at our last few pages – we’ve had some good conversation about Rumple and Milah, and multiple points of view have been expressed…and instead of getting upset, you have given me some excellent points of view to think about and appreciate! I think we need to bottle this goodness and start selling it!
Jenna_B
ParticipantI’m not going to delve directly into the ‘rape culture’ argument because as stated earlier, I find it utterly ridiculous and, the attempt some have made to compare real life to ficticous television, frankly, insulting to victims of rape and violent crime. But I do like the conversations that have stemmed from it.
In regard to Milah. As a mother, I have HUGE issue with her and her decisions. I realize she was in a loveless marriage. Regardless of whether you agree that Rumple was selfish and kept them in their village or her notion that Rumple was cowardly by running from the Ogre Wars or whatnot, I think everyone can agree their marriage was loveless for both Milah and Rumple. However, that does not mean you leave your child. Even if my child’s father was a perfect father, I could never leave my son, especially without explanation and under false pretense. You fall in love with someone else, fine, leave the child’s father. But I cannot fathom falling in love with someone else and placing that romantic love above the love of my child. So I do and will continue to dislike Milah. The only backstory I would be interested in seeing involving Milah is one that addresses Hook’s feelings toward Milah leaving Bae behind, given that he fell in love with Emma – a woman who will always put her child first, and I believe this is one of the things Hook loves most about Emma.
On the other hand, I don’t have too many problems with Neal. I think a relationship between a 17 year old and 24ish year old – one that resulted in pregnancy no less – is, for lack of a better word, gross. And I still have not been given a sufficient answer as to why Neal had to leave Emma and let her go to jail or ‘bad things would happen’. I doubt I ever will get a satisfying answer to that question, however. But I can appreciate that Neal did seem to turn his life around after that decision, and establish a normal, adult life. And when he found out he had a child, he stepped up and dedicated himself to Henry 100%, as a father should (and unlike Milah did for Bae). I never really saw a love triangle between Emma/Neal/Hook; I saw Neal & Emma come back into each other’s lives and genuinely try to sort through the anger and misconceptions and develop a good friendship for the sake of their child; and Emma moving on romantically with Hook. And…then the killed him off 2 minutes later. That still makes me so angry. I think the writers did a disservice to the fans and actually brought out some of the hate in the fandom needlessly. I still don’t believe killing Neal was ‘story driven’ – I think they had some great ideas for Neal that never really developed well and they found themselves with a character they had no idea how to write for. But the potential was there – I don’t understand why they didn’t continue and really flesh out the Neal/Bae/Rumple storyline, and get Belle involved with it. And I really loved the idea of CaptainFire – I wanted to see Hook and Neal sort their crap out, because I think they could have developed a fantastic friendship that each of them need. And most importantly, THEY SHOULD HAVE HAD EMMA CHOOSE BEFORE NEAL DIED. I think it’s easy for some fans to cry Emma’s only with Hook because Neal’s gone, etc etc because the writers chose not to answer that very heated debate.
So…what was my point again? Oh yeah – ‘rape culture debate’ – ridiculous. Milah – hate her. Neal – don’t hate him. Writers – y’all messed up a little with the Neal/Hook/Emma stuff but I’m willing to forgive thanks to our wonderful CS movie. Now, keep going A&E – and don’t screw it up with shiny ‘Frozen’ toys!!
