Jenna_BParticipant
So first I just want to say I’m super impressed with this thread and especially how the last few categories were handled…I’ll be honest I wasn’t too happy when I visited a few times during the hiatus but this thread reminds me that we can all enjoy different aspects of the show and discuss rationally and respectfully. So thank you, all.
Ok so favorite canon ship – Captain Swan! Love them and am very protective of my pirate so that’s all I’ll say. Also, I really liked @torrie’s response re: both Swanfire & CS…I really liked seeing bits of Neal & Emma’s past, I do believe they were TL (I think you can have more than one) and they made our dear Henry. And I loved the idea of seeing them co-parent with Regina until that all went to crap (still mad at you, writers)
– Least fav canon….I guess until 4×11 I would’ve said Rumbelle just because it always felt like Rumple had more control of and in the relationship. But I thought they did an excellent job with Belle in the finale and am really looking forward to seeing what they do now that she’s really accepted Rumple’s unhealthy relationship with magic. I really don’t have a ship I full on dislike, I appreciate how each is unique and special.
– Fav non canon ship
TinkerFire. haha I just love the idea of 14 year old Bae having a big ol crush on the pretty fairy
[adrotate group="5"]Jenna_BParticipantHahahaha @POM – least favorite ship on Valentine’s Day — I actually love it! (I’m NOT a Valentine’s Day person). I did check out the thread, and I was very pleasantly surprised to see a lot of acceptance over people’s difference in opinions, so very nicely timed as well, POM! The site needed a thread that was meant to show difference in opinion as positive rather than negative.
Glad to see our little thread coming back to life! Just a few more weeks until this wretched hiatus is over!
Jenna_BParticipantDay 12 – Least Favorite Villain
I’d have to say Cora. For as much time as they gave her, I still couldn’t wrap my head around her. Did she love Regina? Did she hate Regina? Did she just want to live vicariously through Regina? Although she did make me feel a little more protective and empathetic toward Regina, so I guess she served her purpose.
Jenna_BParticipantHey All, trying to dip my toe back in here and this thread has been fun to read, so I’ll keep my responses short and catch up…
Day 1- Favourite Female Regular Character (Past or Present)
Emma. I know some people feel like she’s been OOC roughly around the S3-4 mark, but I don’t. I think she’s grown immensely since S1. I think they did a good job having Emma learn how to love again 1st with Henry, then her parents. I appreciate that we got to see Emma make peace with her past and Neal, and I’m CS all the way. So I haven’t seen it as the writers trying to pair Emma with this guy and that guy to appease various factions of the fandom or anything, it’s just growth as the seasons go on.
Day 2- Least Favourite Female Regular Character (Past or Present)
Belle. I just don’t think they’ve done enough with her. I get the whole ‘she’s Rumple’s moral compass’ thing – but 1) I don’t think anyone should be another’s sole example of morality and 2) isn’t she anything else??? Like others have said, they’ve shown that Belle is a complex character, but they simply don’t give her the screen time for the audience to appreciate the complexity.
Day 3- Favourite Male Regular Character (Past or Present)
Hook. (For some of you that’s a huuuuuge shock, I know…) I like that he has flaws and I like that he’s trying to become a better person. I was glad the writers had Hook’s hiney handed to him by Rumple (seriously, who taunts the DO like that?!). I thought Colin did a great job showing the audience that being forced to be someone’s puppet was killing Hook.
Day 4- Least Favourite Male Regular Character (Past or Present)
Hmmm…I guess maybe Charming. He’s way too Goody Two Shoes for me.
Day 5- Favourite Female Recurring Character (Past or Present)
Ruby. I just wish they had done more with her when they got Meghan Ory as a regular, but they totally squandered it. I loved the idea that Red was the wolf.
Day 6- Least Favourite Female Recurring Character (Past or Present)
I think I have to say Anna. I loved her the first few episodes, and thought the actress nailed her, but after a while it was like oh god, here she is all sunshine and rainbows and shoot me. Cora’s a close second, because she was the opposite – both were pretty one-note to me.
Day 7- Favourite Male Recurring Character (Past or Present)
I’d like to say Robin, but I’m not thrilled with the fool he turned into in 4A.
Day 8- Least Favourite Male Recurring Character (Past or Present)
August. Uh, I hated his smug face. And that he was Pinocchio. And that they de-aged him at the end. And he took way too much pleasure in thinking he was manipulating people.
Day 9- Favourite Guest Character (Appeared in 3 episodes or less)
Ariel. I’d love for her to be on more episodes but I think she’d be overkill if she were a regular. I like that she’s overall pretty postitive but she wasn’t afraid to give Hook a piece of her mind in Jolly Roger, so she can stand up for herself and what she believes in.
Day 10- Least Favourite Guest Character (Appeared in 3 episodes or less)
Mulan. I don’t know why, maybe because she was so one-note? And I’m all for LBGTQ characters on OUAT, but that whole Mulan loves Aurora seemed very much like fanservice and a way for the showrunners to say ‘see! diversity!’ to me. I want to see true, complex LBGTQ characters, not be appeased with one scene.
Day 11- Favourite Villain
Pan. I loved that nasty little man-boy. I don’t think they should’ve started with the whole 1 villian per 11 episodes thing because I thought there was a lot more they could do with Pan – and would have sacrificed the Oz storyline on the back half to see it. Except, not in Neverland. Oh my god, I was so happy when they stopped roaming around that tiny room with a bunch of plants that was supposed to be a land created by imagination week in and week out.Jenna_BParticipantI don’t try to sugarcoat Hook’s flaws. He’s got them. They’re what make him interesting. Flaws are what make Regina interesting, and Rumple too. I loved to hate Rumple’s actions in 4A because though I understand Belle’s belief that Rumple can change, I just don’t think he is capable of changing to the extent Belle believes he can, at this point at least. But he could get there…4B will likely the catalyst – I’m looking forward to a good Rumple arc. And Emma’s no angel either. I think it does a huge disservice to victimize her and downplay her actions in her past because they make her who she is today. But if she were Lil Miss Perfect, the show would be a completely different show (and one that would bore me to no end). I think one of the reasons I don’t connect to Belle as much as some of the other characters is because she is just too good. She is Rumple’s moral compass and that puts a huge weight on her shoulders? I’d love to see just a little Dark Belle, honestly!
In regard to the 4a Rumple/Hook arc, I actually really liked it. Hook walked right into Rumple’s trap – I will be 1st in line to argue that. But, really, he almost needed to have his hand forced, because he and the audience realized just how much he DOESN’T want to be a villain – he had to do Rumple’s bidding, but he hated doing it. He learned his lessons the hard way while being under Rumple’s thumb. Some argue he could’ve done something to let people know Rumple had his heart – I disagree. Maybe Rumple wasn’t controlling Hook to the point Cora was controlling Aurora in S2, but in my opinion he had the power to prevent Hook from saying something just as much as he had the power to force Hook to say whatever Rumple wanted him to say.
I’ll check the thread, Obisgirl. I’m still VERY sensitive when it comes to this site so I can’t promise anything, but I’ll check it out!
Jenna_BParticipantOk, a HUGE shout out to Obisgirl for standing up for Hook in one of the other threads (4×12 synopsis). Sometimes I actually believe there’s a bit of…celebratory…attitude here for essentially pushing about 90% of the CSers/Hook supporters who visit and contribute to the site here out. Sorry, visitors to the thread, but not sorry. It’s what happened. One thread went so far as to bash an interview Colin gave and turn it into one more Neal-is-perfect-Hook-is-evil tirade. But Obisgirl did a great job of arguing our points in an adult way. I am so sick of the ‘person A is my favorite, therefore perfect, so person B has to be evil therefore everything that is wrong with the show.’ Why do you have to hate Hook if you love Neal or Rumple? I love Hook but I don’t hate Neal, and I love Rumple when he’s in full on DO mode! It’s actually the anti-Hook/pro-whoever crud supporters of various characters & ships spew that end up putting a bad taste in my mouth and increase my dislike the character/ship. And yes, CSers will be some of the first to point out Hook’s flaws and negative attributes.
I hope that, even given the above, some of those who fled or are just popping on occasionally come back to at least this thread once the hiatus ends. I miss my fellow CSers!!
Jenna_BParticipantOk….well, I haven’t been around much lately but…wow. Holy negativity folks.
In regard to Henry, here’s the thing. 1. Just because he believes in magic doesn’t mean he’s going to have it. In fact it doesn’t really even make sense for him to have it. If he has magic, then what’s to believe in? Henry almost can’t have magic because the show relies on his being a believer. And just because he doesn’t have magic doesn’t mean he’s not a product of true love, etc. They never said a product of true love is GOING to have magic, just that the likelihood of it increases when you are the product of true love.
2. Lets be honest here. Jared is no longer a little boy. The audience isn’t going to look at him and say “awww isn’t he just adorbs?” Jared needs to be able to hold his own against the adult actors – and sorry but he just doesn’t. Lana and Robert especially blow him out of the water. Can’t write if the actor can’t deliever. And in my opinion that’s why he got shoved to the back.
Got no comment on the anti-Hook junk other than what did they say that was so controversial? Hook and Rumple will never forgive and forget -EITHER of them. neither is winning saint of the year awards. They will always fight, they will always be adversaries. Rumple jumped on Hook leaping before he looked in 4a, I’d expect Hook to be po’d and do something to get him back, and the Rumple to do the same. It’s the very nature of their relationship. Everything could be hunky doory and those two would find something to antagonize the other with.
Once again a lot of mudslinging over an interview purposly meant to provoke since in it’s very nature it is supposed to be answered with one word and zero clarification, embellishment or explanation.
Jenna_BParticipantHe’s thinking about her and then at the end gets the courage to talk to her.
Um…I’m not the only one who caught her necklace when she got into the tub with him…?!
I love Christina Perri, such a CSer.
Jenna_BParticipantHey guys….look at our sad little thread…. 🙁
Happy New Year to those of you popping in!
I was very sad to hear about Lisa, she was always a lot of fun to talk to and gave me great perspective. It was nice to see MRJ responded when some of the others tweeted him about her passing – he has got himself one awesome guardian angel now!
Thanks for the post, Rainbow. My favorite BroTP! I love seeing the off-camera pics, the guys seem especially close.
As for your question, Obis — you know, I saw some people on Tumblr complaining that we didn’t get a lot of CS….but I disagree. I thought we got some excellent stuff in 4A! CS may be my favorite ship but this is still an ensemble show, and I would hate for any one story or ship to take over. (Now, if they wanted to ADD an hour of pure CS/Hook, I wouldn’t turn the channel, either! 🙂 Hey, a girl can dream) The only time I felt like the set up was completely OOC or awkward was in the last ep after Emma returned Killian’s heart. I find it extremely hard to believe she shoved his heart back in his chest, and then strolled off to check on Regina. Emma may be trying to establish/strengthen her friendship with Regina, but I still don’t see her going to toss back shots with her in that moment. I also understand the writers wanting to bring Emma into the whole Operation Mongoose (ugh) storyline, but I don’t know that it was necessary to introduce her to it in 4×11, as opposed to wait until 4B. She really didn’t need to be in the scene in the library with Regina and Henry. But considering just how much screentime we got for our couple, in a show with what? 10 regulars? – I think we were quite spoiled, personally! And I loved it!
Jenna_BParticipantI think I like that headcannon, Keb IF – as you and others point out, they actually stress Rumple’s motivation was sparked by Neal’s death. I hate hate HATE the idea that the writers are going to just push Neal under the rug…you can’t have so many characters’ lives intertwine with Neal and then play Neal Who? But I’m veering off course. I suspect (fear) if we get any more information regarding Rumple’s motivation they’ll make it more about how Zelena enslaved him. Argh.
I don’t know if I agree that the Dark One’s attempt to separate himself from the dagger isn’t an evil act, just in itself. We’re talking about people knowing they’re choosing evil wjen they choose to become the Dark One…so an attempt to separate yourself from the one thing that might save you from complete evil if in the right hands and getting complete free will….you’re probably not doing it to make everyone’s dreams come true and establish world peace. Most likely your palns are more sinister than ever now that you have literally nothing controlling you.
