It’s up to KJ to be our outside ambassador it seems! I know it’ll calm down, I just hope it does before more people get upset/hurt. We’ll see.
Killian Jones is a do-gooder stick in the mud. Captain Hook is selfish and revenge-obsessed. The true person that is emerging has qualities from each side and I think Colin is doing a good job showing the two personas blend. Killian and Hook are one dimensional, but this new person is fascinating and what draws me to his/this storyline.
And he’s gonna have to tell Emma about the curse soon – once our girl gets something in her head she doesn’t let go and she is FINALLY letting herself acknowlege long-brewing emotions. Our pirate had better be ready!
[adrotate group="5"]Jenna_BParticipantThe sword fight was pretty fun & yeah it did look like Hook was fighting his cartoon self
This is an interesting remark. Like others I had indeed noticed when those stills were released that BB looked a lot like the traditional Hook we know. So maybe this duel was supposed to depict the inner “duel” Hook’s having with himself, with BB representing the old, jaded, revenge seeking, bad guy Hook (the pirate aspect of him). Like he’s LITERALLY fighting with himself. Be the good guy who helps a woman find her love again, or be the pirate who only looks out for himself.
Or I’m overthinking things again.
not overthinking it that was my thought too – I mentioned something in one of the speculation threads…one theory not totally blown away by the ep then…??
Jenna_BParticipantHE – thank you for your kind words! They are much appreciated…to be quite honest I almost hit my breaking point yesterday, I was so sick and tired of feeling like I walk around on eggshells 90% of the time and get dumped on if I venture outside this one thread. I was this close to leaving the forum altogether (seriously it’s a sad day when tumblr is more positive)but my shipmates and fellow OUATers had some excellent posts here to draw me back in!
Jenna_BParticipantI know it can be a somewhat controversial thought, but — A lot of Emma’s problems come from her inability to choose – she didn’t choose to be given up at birth, she didn’t choose to take the fall for the stolen watches, she didn’t choose to be the savior, she didn’t even feel she had the choice to keep Henry or not when she gave birth. She didn’t even get to choose whether or not she wants to learn magic – she is magical, she is powerful – and that power is needed to defeat Zelena.
For that reason, I think in this storyline, they’re going to have Hook tell Emma – allow her to make the choice. This arc has caused Emma to have to face her demons head-on, and learn more about herself then in seasons past. And she’s finally ready to face the things that scared her – her magic, family, love, actually having happiness. This part of the curse needs to be Emma’s choice.
I don’t actually think, however, that the curse will work. I think Zelena is severely underestimating Emma’s abilities – shown when she called Emma an amateur. Even Regina had no idea how powerful Emma was until this past episode. It seems, in comparison, this is a small part of Zelena’s overall plan – she needs Emma to be magic-free so she can’t intervene. The spell is likely on the simple side for someone as strong as Emma. So while I think Zelena thought she was being ‘wicked’ (ok, I’ll never need to hear that word again by the end of this season), Emma will choose to kiss Hook knowing it could cost her her magic and – nothing. She’ll still be as powerful as she was before – in fact, this will make her even MORE powerful, because Zelena has unwittingly shown Emma she is, in fact, far stronger than the WW.
And….then Regina will sweep in, and defeat Zelena with her cunning and magic – because ultimately I really want Regina to be the one that breaks Zelena!!!
Jenna_BParticipantI hope. Colin does a great job… i have never been invested in a character before… ever. I felt sad going to bed – which i guess is sad for me -lol. He really makes you feel Hook self loathing, angst, guilt, sadness, longing… etc. geez we do get a lot of feels from that man. I hope he goes to Charming and tells him everything. Charming tells him why would you do that… gets a little loud and Hook snaps that he had nothing left. That’s when Charming says you have us ( snowing ) and Hook tells him that he knows that they just tolerate him and think of him of as just a pirate. Then Charming can tell him – ‘ not any more. ‘ so that is my hope for our poor pirate. then they can hatch a plan to get ride of that kiss curse. lol – did she put an aphrodisiac in it? lol – now that he pulled away the poor thing will probably have to beat Emma off. lol
Colin does incite the feels! hahaha – I know what you mean, though. I’ve had my ships, and I even have my backup ships for OUAT because A&E are evil, but I have never been ridiculously invested with one particular character/ship.
I would love for a scenario you described to occur. Honestly, I was shocked when Emma told Hook she’s sick of living in the past at the end of yesterday’s episode. That is huge growth for her. They could go the old ‘regression’ route, but I don’t think they will with Emma/Hook/CS. We’ve seen Emma regress already. If she didn’t regress when Neal died, I don’t think she’s going to. And we’ve clearly seen what Hook’s attempt at regression did to him. So I think these two characters have no where to go BUT forward. Does that mean the fall into each other’s arms? Not necessarily. But I don’t think we’re going to have to deal with yet another Emma’s-walls-go-up, here-we-go-again storyline.
Moving forward and leaving the past in the past seems to be developing as a major theme for all characters this half of the season – Regina/OQ, Snowing/new baby, even Henry/growing up are all plot points, in addition to Emma and Hook’s character growth. This half of the season, for me, has been much better than 3A because it’s finally found a nice blend of action and character development.

How does Hook’s actions as we know them so far going to affect Emma/Storybrooke in present day? Ultimately, it’s not. He doesn’t really have any information to assist with the WW that he’s keeping (until the curse…and in which case, timing was an issue more than anything). Emma’s made it clear that she’s in SB until they get the WW and then she’s out….so why should it matter to Emma what Hook did during the missing year?
However, if we’re talking about Emma and Hook as friends/what-have-you, then yes, he should tell her. But again, timing. When’s the right time to bring up the “yeah, I was kind of a scumbag to the real Ariel during that year” conversation? If there were no WW/Big Bad to deal with, I’d say probably fairly quickly after they met again. But again, depends on which side you want to take…the ‘they’re friends/acquaintences at best’ side, or ‘there’s the possibility they may be TL’ side… 😉
Jenna_BParticipant@jenven – loved your post too! And I wasn’t really thrilled about Hook’s choosing the JR until you all pointed out why he made that decision – and now I must agree! 🙂 I needed some good CS feels after coming to the forum at lunchtime and getting a seriously sour eyeful.
I think after everything Hook went through in this episode he’s going to tell Emma very soon. I completely understand why he didn’t say anything to her by the end of the episode — Hi, he’s going to drop the “L” bomb on Emma…in front of her parents, co-Momma…and the kid?? Riiiight. That’s plausible.
Jenna_BParticipantOk, Kat can I just say THANK YOU!!! I had a huge – and I mean huge – vent that I was debating about posting because I’m just so sick of the negativity lately but your post made me feel a lot better – and I’m not even done reading it!! 🙂
Jenna_BParticipantI think the only reason he didn’t just tell Regina and Emma when he got to the Snowing’s apt is because he’s conflicted. He’s not going to blurt out what happened to everyone and their mother and place them in danger – he went to Snowing’s apt, not realizing Emma was there, to do the exact same thing he did in NL – tell Snowing and seek their advice.
And really, look at it from his perspective – he knows he’s in love with Emma. Everyone else knows he’s in love with Emma. But as it’s been clearly pointed out, we don’t know what Emma’s feelings are for Hook…general consensus appears to be it’s anywhere from she doesn’t like him/isn’t interested in him romantically to in love with him as well. So…Hook’s supposed to go to her, 1) declare his love to her – out loud, with the words (again, we all know how he feels but he hasn’t actually dropped the love bomb on the girl), 2) not only tell Emma but whomever she’s with and everyone else, and then 3) see if it’s even really that much of a biggie because hey, if Emma ain’t planning on kissing Hook anytime soon, who gives a hooey about Hook being unable to kiss her? Maybe it’s me, but I’d want to knock the idea off a buddy or two before I tell the admittedly closed off, emotionally tattered girl who just learned how to use her magic in the first place too.
Jenna_BParticipantKJ I like your thinking!
