One thing I actually liked about the exchange between Emma and Hook, and the fact that they both said things that can be interpreted as rude/mean, etc….it means neither of them have an ‘edit’ button around the other. Granted, Hook typically doesn’t have an ‘edit’ button, and Emma’s can go on the blitz too, but that can make other characters upset. Hook and Emma say what they want to each other, as bluntly as they want to, because they know the other is going to understand and realize the things they say are not meant to cause pain, but to be honest and truthful, even if it does sting.
Yeah, I’m definitely not on the ‘Hook’s double crossing so-and-so’ train. But I do like the idea of Hook and Neal working together. I can definitely see Neal resorting to some kind of curse recasting, given what he said to Belle in 3×12. For Mr. No Magic to say that, the statement has to be foreshadowing. But Neal could also then get into a lot of trouble very quickly. I could see him turning to Hook because, really, with his father gone, who else is he going to turn to but Belle (who likely is already caught up in the situation) or Hook, who might have the skills and knowledge to assist. And I do love the idea of CaptainFire.
Jenna_BParticipantOh now what did my phone do? I’ll have to fix that gobbledegook when I’m at my computer!
Jenna_BParticipantWe were talking about this in the What is Hook Hiding thread. I actually think he gave up the JR to get back to Emma. It makes his response to Emma’s ‘swashbuckling’ statement perfect- can’t swashbuckle without a boat! At least I don’t think you can. I don’t really know how to swashbuckle myself….anywho
And that’s something Hook may keep from Emma because that’s HUGE. She can pass off some of his actions as innuendo or bravado but if Hook gave up that ship for her, there’s simply no turning back. She HAS to deal with her feelings for Hook/Neal/Monkey Man because she knows what giving up the JR says about Hook more than anyone. And I think Hook knows Emma can’thandle that. Not yet. So he doesn’t lie to her; he admits he’s not telling her something and frankly, he doesn’t have to
So I don’t necessarily think Hook’s keeping bad news from Emma, just HUGE news!Jenna_BParticipantI like the idea that Neal and Hook are working together. I also lovvvve the idea that Hook gave up the JR to get back to Emma.
Hook could’ve given up the boat. Seeing it in SB could mean he gets it back, or Emma/Neal/someone finds out he gave it up and gets it back for him. It could also be a flashback – they haven’t really done SB flashbacks but tbat doesn’t mean they can’t.
Something big happens or happened with that boat. They wouldn’t have named a whole episode after it if there weren’t. So I think something happened with the JR and Hook is hiding it.
Jenna_BParticipantExcellent post, RGF! I totally agree – haha, maybe it is age, experience, whatever, that makes people look at that scene differently.
It’s funny, at some point in my late teens or early 20s, I made a conscious decision to allow myself to live, love, get hurt…experience life to it’s fullest so I didn’t wake up at some point, married with kids and regret anything. And I lived and loved HARD…and it resulted in a lot of pain…and eventual forgiveness for that pain. And I will encourage my son to do the same thing. Because it makes you a better person. It makes you stronger and realize you can’t be broken unless you allow someone to break you.
Emma literally fell apart the last time she was in a romantic relationship and it didn’t work out (Neal). The fact of the matter is, whatever the reason it didn’t work out with Walsh (you know, not being of the same species can be a real relationship killer), the important thing is that Emma does feel something. She’s moving forward. She isn’t being drawn so deep within herself the she is surviving, but not living. And I think it’s incredibly important that someone pointed that out to her. More importantly, who pointed it out to her. Had Snow or even Charming said that, she would likely have brushed it off. That it was Hook, one of the people she knows cares deeply for her, understands her, gets her, who said it, makes those words resonate even deeper with her.
Jenna_BParticipantI think you really have to take spoilers in stride…almost have fun with them. I take everything with a grain of salt, be it from a pap, fan who happens to be at the set, reporter or A&E themselves. Sometimes the folks getting info seem to be merely trying to outdo each other and get each other fired up about some silliness or another. And things can change – I do believe with the CS hug in 3×12 it ended up being a last minute decision to cut it. Mitovich even called Adam out on it…things change. What looks like one thing can always be another.
I do like the idea of seeing Marian again! I’m guessing flashback…maybe we’ll see the events surrounding her death? Robin was…a little vague when he was telling Regina about it…
Jenna_BParticipantThey both have their moments of immaturity, I think. Hook was kind of a poop early in the episode, and then Emma was pretty harsh at the field. I think it’s just a defense mechanism and they’re both going to have to come to that realization. Both of them have been hurt, and both of them have done things that the other might be hurt by. But they’re getting there, slowly but surely. Frankly, Hook should be a little abrupt with her. She needs a kick in the pants more often than not when it comes to the ‘touchy feely’ stuff.
I do like that Hook stood up to Emma when she called him on lying to her. Which he didn’t. She knows him well enough to know when he agreed to her “swashbuckling” statement that he’s appeasing her. And, frankly, if Hook doesn’t want to talk about the missing year with Emma, he doesn’t have to, even if she doesn’t like it. And his reasons could be because he’s protecting her, or because it’s to sensitive for him to discuss right now. Why does he have to lay everything at Emma’s feet when she plays the ‘selective info’ card often enough. I think it was great to show that moment between them, and see them recover and move on with their mission. It shows whatever is going on between them, they still have each other’s back and will continue to do so.
Jenna_BParticipantI love how you think stuff in yer head and then find a gifset of it… http://keepcalmwearetimeless.tumblr.com/post/80531458991/captain-hook-off-to-win-and-heal-emmas-broken
Jenna_BParticipantOk, our pirate was being a little bit of a pooper scooper in that first scene at MM’s apt…although, yeah, I’d probably still be a little irritated to find out the girl I crossed realms to save was about to marry a monkey. So…he’s forgiven. 🙂
But that CS scene! Holy geez, it was so good! I think Hook’s going to stay just far away to let Emma make the choice and come to him, but I really like that he understands her well enough to know she’ll stay in her comfort zone and avoid it at all costs…and he’s going to make that little zone very uncomfortable indeed.
I wonder if Hook hadn’t come back in NYCS, and Walsh had still proposed if Emma would have said yes. I don’t think she would. Emma needs a challenge and that was Monkey Man’s mistake – he didn’t challenge her. He was a yes-man. That kind of support is nice for a little while, but Emma especially needs someone who is going to stand up to her, push her, force her to face her fears, while supporting her, and Walsh was not that guy…or monkey. I’d like to think she made the choice not to marry Walsh because on some level she did realize that, not because Hook had come back.
