I think us old folks and moms are CS because of our life experience…look at how many of us agree on blended families…
Haha, also my 3 year old loves Jake on Disney jr and Hook is his favorite character…he saw a picture of Colin as. Hook and told me he needs the real Hook’s hat. It’s a bonding experience!
[adrotate group="5"]Jenna_BParticipantI took the exchange more as just a way to get Snow & WW to interact, and to show that although we’ve seen Snow attempting to be a mother to Emma, this child is actually her first baby. As @3princesses said, cradle cap is common and most people have at least heard of it before. The only thing I don’t think of when I think of cradle cap is the color green, so maybe they were attempting to show the WW’s sensitivity to the color. If they wanted to come up with something obscure that the WW should – but might not – know as a midwife, or bring up a condition that would cause the mother to abandon the child, there are a plethora of other things they could have described. Really gross stuff. And those books are full of those gross things – I swear I think they’re actually written to scare the crud out of expectant mothers, not educate! 🙂
Jenna_BParticipantObisgirl, sometimes I think you climbed in my head, grabbed my thoughts and wrote them down. Making them sound way more eloquent than I would! 🙂
I 100% agree with both your metas – about Neal and about Henry/Hook bonding.
The line that Neal says about having to cast a curse…now if anyone else had said that, I probably wouldn’t even think twice. But coming from Mr. No Magic Neal? The guy who wouldn’t let Rumple use magic in NL at the most critical point in saving Henry? Curses and magic are not something Neal jokes about. I can see him being well intentioned and getting into a situation to save his father/Emma/Henry, and getting in way too deep very quickly. When the stakes are that high, so is the temptation.
And regarding Hook & Henry…I have a child and am technically part of a ‘traditional’ family as I am married to my husband who is also my baby daddy. But that doesn’t mean I want myself and my husband to be the only adult role models in my child’s life! The adage “it takes a village to raise a child” is true – and it only benefits the child to have many adults to look up to. Especially at that critical pre-teen/teenage point, when the last people a kid wants to defer to is their parents. I would love to see Henry and Hook bond before CS is established as a real relationship, and see Hook come to care for Henry as much as he does Emma. I don’t think this is my any means diminishing Neal’s role in Henry’s life – he is Henry’s father and always will be. Hook is simply another male there for Henry to go to and look up to, someone who cared deeply for Henry’s father when Neal was close to Henry’s age.
Jenna_BParticipantOk, so Zelena told Snow she missed out on the curse the 1st time around. And she told Regina she’s her older sister. But Regina is actually 28 years older than she appears, due to the curse. So…
1) Do you age differently in Oz?
2) Was she actually here during the 1st curse and she’s lying about it?
3) Is she not Regina’s sister and she’s lying about it?
4) Did A&E make a big oopsie?
Jenna_BParticipantI do like the idea of Neal and Hook working together….and Neal working to save Rumple. There’s something just a little off about Hook and his story. I don’t think he’s doing anythingfor vengeful reasons but I love the idea of him working with Neal. That ‘a little birdie told me’ story is a bit farfetched coming from Hook. Would he do anything to protect Emma? Yes. But walk into a situation almost blindly? Because someone stuck paper to a bird? I’m thinking he looked into things a little further before he just happened to get to NY. Go Captain Fire!!!
March 17, 2014 at 12:59 pm in reply to: 3X 13 " WITCH HUNT " FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE MOMENTS #253604Jenna_BParticipantStill not good at thinking straight there was so much going on…but I loved it! The pace is so much better than in NL.
One thing I’m very happy about is Emma encouraging Regina to have some kind of bond with Henry even though he doesn’t have his memories. I get not telling him the truth, that’s a lot to process but I’m really hapy Emma wanted Regina in his life. I really thought she might balk a little because of their past and it would be easier keeping Regina away but Emma really stepped up.
I did notice the changes…in Henry andEmma. Emma’s a little softer and Henry’s a little more distant. But I like it; I love the idea of Henry being a little snotty pre-teen (just a bit though!) And Emma needs to be able to unclench if just for a second.
Jenna_BParticipantIs next episode the one where Hook and Henry go off together? I thought it was further out. Spoilers got me all mixed up!
Loved tonight’s episode! Outlaw Queen is officially my second favorite ship, so if we couldn’t get much CS, I’m happy with lots of OQ. 🙂 I’m hoping they keep up the good work, even the stuff we know (or think we know) about is awesome to actually see. That’s all I got right now, my brain is on OVERLOAD! 🙂 Happy OUAT Day everyone!
Jenna_BParticipantRGF – that was an amazing post!! 🙂
We did some talking in chat today, so I could look at my S1 issue without shipper eyes – that being, why did Neal need to leave Emma for the curse to break? If he had 10 years, couldn’t he have figured out a way to get Emma to where she needed to be to break the curse…the concept of maybe it needed to be powerful came up, but I disagree that TL is any less powerful because the persons involved (Emma & Henry) have known each other the entire time. But I did find a way to pretty much blame it all on Stupid August and that made me happy. I do like Neal and I think he’s very well intentioned and he can be strong and passionate (Hi, Bae). But his major character flaw, in my opinion, is that he seems to rely on the path of least resistance too much, and maybe doesn’t have enough self esteem to feel he’s earned the things and people he wants in life. And that is what destroys his chances with Emma in the present.
I’m not one for soul mates, even in fairy tales. I think TL is active, growing, and can change – you can choose who to accept into your life, you can choose who you want to love. You are responsible for your actions, and the path they lead you down. So, yes, Neal WAS her TL…when she was 17. But he chose his path, and it destroyed Emma. So while she may still love him, that love, too, has changed – from romantic love to a familial, he’s the father of her child love.
Hook chooses to love Emma, even if she chooses to love another man. He chooses to be her rock. He choses to turn his life around and let others in after hundreds of years of loss. And in turn, because of all of the choices made – Emma’s, Neal’s and Hook’s – I believe Emma will choose Hook as her TL. 🙂 Hopefully before the end of S3B…tee hee.
Jenna_BParticipantJust heard the best definition of love ‘Love is when you want the best for another being- whether said being is with or without you’ ….. Like a true CS’er, the 1st thing that jumped to mind was our charming pirate & his beloved Swan
Love it! And your post…one thing that kinds of annoys me is the whole “Neal HAD to leave Emma or bad things would happen.” And if this has been cleared up, or someone has a good theory please let me know! 🙂 I don’t have S1 so I can’t do a rewatch and I’m still trying to get through my S2 rewatch, I’m only at Queen of Hearts!
Ok, so August said Neal had to let Emma become the saviour. But why exactly did that entail Emma having to take the fall for Neal? Or Neal breaking her heart? He had 10 years…why couldn’t Neal stay with Emma and over the course of those 10 years figure out a way to get her to where she needed to be to break the curse? I mean, if Neal is actually Emma’s true love, and Neal knows about the curse, he just drives her over the town line one day and BAM! curse broken. She was already pregnant with Henry when August and Neal discussed Emma’s future (and took away her choice in the matter, but I digress) so if the TLK was with Henry then Neal drives them across the town line and BAM! she kisses Henry and the curse is broken.
Unless, you know, she loves Neal, and rightly so, because he’s Henry’s father and really not a bad guy, just maybe a little easy to manipulate…but a dashing rapscallion might actually be her True Love?? 😉
Haha and seriously, do the writers whip out some Old World English dictionary to come up with some of Hook’s phrases? ‘Cause them be some fancy words he whips up sometimes. He must be really smaaaaaart.
Jenna_BParticipantHas anyone read this CS meta? It’s pretty good.
I like it!!! 🙂
