I saw those pics. Am I the only one who’s amused by the (blacked out just to err on the safe side 🙂 ) giant, goofy grin on his face during most of them? Especially these bakery ones – just after his quality time with Henry ones? Hmmm….wonder what the reasons could be that are making him so happy?
Tee hee.
[adrotate group="5"]Jenna_BParticipantMy guess is either Belle or Neal. And I do believe that whoever it is, it is NOT “story driven”. It’s just too…awkward. I know deaths shake things up but really, there’s a whole lot already going on, what with Rumple being who knows where and the WW coming. They need to toss a death of a major character in there?
Why do I therefore, think Emilie or MRJ? Because their characters have been seriously under used and over abused. Their storylines in general seem awkward at times. I remember being that passive viewer and trying to put my finger on why the Belle thing just seemed a bit off to me — and when I went looking, found that Belle was only supposed to be in those first couple of episodes until Emilie’s pilot didn’t get picked up and A&E jumped on the chance to option her. It just always seems like they don’t know what to do with Belle. She’s not nearly as fleshed out as other characters are, which is extremely unfortunate. Emilie came to the show with some good credits on her resume already – most notably, of course, was LOST, but then she was in that movie with what’s-his-name-vampire-boy…if she wants to move on, she’ll get work and quickly.
Neal’s the same way. They’re getting him fleshed out pretty well, but again, it’s a little more awkward than other storylines. And his great potential storylines – reuniting with Rumple! exploring his past with Hook (why exactly wasn’t that touched on the ENTIRE 11 episodes they’re in NL?) getting to know his SON he just found out he has…are just passed over in favor of the next big bad. And like Emilie, his resume’s impressive. There is no way he didn’t and doesn’t have other options. And when you’re an actor and underutilized, the first thing you’re going to ask yourself is “what am I doing here?”
Which is why I also don’t think it’s Hook. In regard to character, whether people like it or not, they’ve given him some pretty decent screen time. ABC’s publicity certainly features him, whether A&E have control over it or not. And sometimes, if the boys upstairs deciding your future think someone/something’s a moneymaker – the guys “in charge” are going to be told there’s not a chance they’re getting rid of him/it. Besides, Colin’s the biggest freaking fanboy there is. And as an actor, he has some decent credits but we have to be honest, this is his first really BIG American project. And while there’s European work available, let’s all be honest even if it does sound insensitive – American film & tv is where you want to be if you’re trying to make a name for yourself. He’s not established enough to leave for ‘bigger and better’ projects.
Charming – once they decided to keep him after the pilot, and after making it known they were going to kill him, practically gives him a ‘get out of jail free’ card.
Jennifer – yeah, don’t think so. Jen’s the fangirl standing next to fanboy Colin. She does an insane amount of actor to fan interaction that she isn’t required to do (hi, tweeting during almost EVERY new episode? While in the airport waiting to get on the plane back to Vancouver? Hel-lo) No way they’re letting her out of her contract.
Ginnifer? Nope. She’s one of the biggest names they have on the show. And I know people are all “but she’s having a baby in real life” – but she’s an actor, not an accountant. She doesn’t have the luxury of ‘taking time off’ and trying to return to her job after a year or two, because by then she’ll be forgotten.
Regina? Rumple? Yeah. I don’t think there needs to be any commentary. They’re not going anywhere. They ARE the show. Period.
Jenna_BParticipantWelcome Back Sarah!!
I know, it’s hard with a family, especially with little ones…I have made an agreement that I come online during my lunch and after my son’s in bed. Or watching Handy Manny. Because if I have to watch Handy Manny without some kind of distraction I’m likely to stick a pen in my eye…wait, what was I saying? 🙂 Welcome back!!!
In regard to the death, I read nothing into anything, until I see a dead body on the ground. And not even then. They could be doing a million things – shooting episodes out of order, having cast come on/near set where there might be a “sighting,” even though their character isn’t shooting anymore, tweeting, not tweeting, anything to throw us off.
And uh, someone needs to tell Matt @ tvline that his CS spoiler was a boring spoiler…even when we heard it 2 months ago.
It’s too quiet…better see what the 3 year old is up too….talk later!
Jenna_BParticipantI read this on tumblr and thought I would post it here.
Captain Swanservation: The Echo Caves yaytessamae: So something struck me as I was rewatching Ariel (WHICH I WAS DOING FOR REASONS OK). Hook gives Emma his confession in the Echo Cave: “It’s what the kiss exposed. I never thought that I’d be capable of letting go of my first love, of my Milah. That is, until I met you.” And Emma absorbs this. Accepts it even. Then when it’s her turn to confess, homegirl literally goes and LETS GO OF HER FIRST LOVE. (*cough*You jump, I Jump, Jack*cough*)
Because no matter what the haters say, that is exactly what Emma did in that scene. By confessing that she loved Neal and probably always would, but had hoped he was dead, she is telling him she won’t go back. She can’t. That’s she’s moving on, much like he did with Tamara. She even reinforces this outside the caves, saying she wished she could change the way she felt, but she just can’t. She’s letting him as her first love go. After that, you notice the “love triangle” from her POV is officially dead. She is only ever platonic with Neal. She doesn’t go on the date with him. Their goodbye at the town line is familial at best. She is carefully neutral every time they talk, as to not encourage his romantic affections, because we all know Emma does not give false hope. Yet after the Echo Caves, she does go on to give hope to another certain someone. Someone who had been surprising her and supporting her and challenging her and making her smile and kissing her senseless and pouring his heart out to her. Someone who let go of his first love for her. Someone that I suspect helped her finally let go of her first love as well. I just can’t see this as coincidence. That both Emma and Hook had very significant first loves before they found each other. And that both of those first loves ended badly, altering them forever. They both took years to move on, building ridiculously high walls against love. But then they met each other, and immediately were able to ferret out the cracks in each other’s walls. To connect in a frighteningly intimate way quite quickly, because they were such kindred spirits emotionally. They recognized the rawest part of themselves mirrored in the other, saw that here was someone who got it when so many people don’t. And that’s why there’s no question in my mind that these two are destined. Because a connection like this is rare and precious. The show went through a lot of trouble to canonically establish it. Because it gives their love a strong root, a root that is anchored in the deepest parts of their characters, born from their deepest insecurities and fears, but growing into something strong and beautiful, something that heals them both and makes them into better people. So it’s all been analyzed, and re-analyzed and analyzed again (because we wouldn’t be hardcore OUATers if we didn’t! 🙂 ), but that might be one of the best essays about our couple I’ve read. Concise and simple, but beautiful – and totally nails it. Thanks, @Vanessa!
Jenna_BParticipantAt this point, I’m so sick of “the death”, I just hope it’s not Hook and that’s the extent to which I’ll give it any thought.
In fact, I have to stop analyzing a storyline we haven’t seen yet. I’m not a huge fan of The Wizard of Oz anyway, so I’m pretty h0-hum when it comes to the WW being the next big bad. And I don’t want to get myself all worked up and disappointed about something I haven’t even seen yet! Instead, I choose to apartment-analyze and dwell on how much I love-love-love the Hook & Henry pics! 🙂
Jenna_BParticipantI don’t know…I could get behind Neal de-aging…
Ok, it’d be weird for Emma to see her baby-daddy at 15…but really, in the grand scheme of things, is it really the craziest thing she’s seen in the past few years? 🙂
I didn’t like the Pinocchio bit because it seemed like they were trying too hard to find a nice, neat way to tie up a storyline that wasn’t ready to be tied up. They lost Eion Bailey to pilot season and ended up in an “uh oh!” situation. Turn Pinocchio back into a boy! Yeah, didn’t work for me. But, if they were to try it with Neal, and make it believable, then ok.
No matter what, I’m interested in seeing how this particular event is “story driven” as said by A&E. I still get the feeling it’s due to actor dissatisfaction than ‘story driven’.
Jenna_BParticipantBut, like, between the two of them, they wrote some of the best episodes of the show? ‘K, doesn’t matter what # ep it is, glad to hear we’ll be getting one!
Jenna_BParticipant@RumplesGirl – thanks for the post. We know you try very hard to keep things neutral and appreciate it. Any venting of frustration is absolutely never meant to be a criticism of you, MP or Daniel. You have extremely difficult jobs as mods and though we may not always express it, I think I can say as a collective, we have much respect for the work you do to keep this place civil. And it is true – as crazy as it can be, this is probably the least cray-cray of all forums – and for that we thank you! Please know it’s because of your hard work we feel this is a safe place to occasionally need to vent our frustrations. 🙂

Anywho – liking the title of epi 17! I’m loving the idea of BB being a father figure to Hook – I guess it’s ok if he’s Hook’s actual father. Any backstory for Hook is good to me! I like the idea of Killian being somewhat lost once he mutinied after Liam died and BB stepping in as a new father-figure, teaching him ‘the ways of the pirate,’ which he in turn taught to Neal. And maybe even Henry.–
Ok, now it’s time to check out those screen shots of Emma’s apt Surayya got for us and analyze, analyze, analyze!Jenna_BParticipantWas chat at some point on its own page? I admit, a couple of times I’ve come this close to putting a piece of paper over the right side of my screen! I wish I were kidding. Now I just try to actively avoid it. The other day I got so aggravated because I was literally asking questions to GAIN PERSPECTIVE and having what I thought was a civilized conversation/debate when all off a sudden others started flipping out saying the argument was getting heated and “glitter was thrown” and it was decided topic had to change. That’s why there’s so much animosity – let people discuss and debate the sensitive topics and maybe we’ll find some common ground.
Jenna_BParticipantthe REAL reason hook can’t be killed off is because if he died he would come back as a ghost and haunt emma for smoochies

So true.
