I’m going to guess it’s MRJ…he’s got the most to gain here. He’s already had high profile roles in high profile shows, and he’s got a lot in the works. I’m guessing A&E and co did the same exact thing they did with Emilie – snatched him up and then gave him nothing to do. Which is why Emilie would be my 2nd guess.
I’m thinking it’s not Colin because as people have said, he uprooted his entire live to move to Vancouver for this role. Additionally it’d be a terrible career move for him. He’s an Irish actor with a huge role in an American tv show. Foreign film and tv can and are great, but the exposure and money’s in American film and tv (oh, I hope this doesn’t sound insensitive, I’m just trying to look at it from a global/financial perspective…). He simply does not yet have the resume and exposure yet that Emilie and MRJ have to move on and be confident the roles are going to keep coming.
Don’t think it’s Ginny or Josh either. Plenty of women in tv & film have babies and work. Again – deciding to stay home with baby? Terrible career move. She was on fire careerwise when they cast her as Snow, coming off of Big Love, but she’s not quite enough of a household name to decide to stay home for a couple of years with baby and then expect to come back, with roles aplenty. In their industry, you just can’t take time off to start a family because the work is not guaranteed – and out of sight, out of mind. Literally. Josh who? Josh what? Yeah, he’s made it clear he knows how lucky he is that they didn’t kill him off. Not going anywhere.
JMo? Yeah. Obviously not. Lana? Nope – same reasons as JMo. Jared? Killing off a kid on an 8pm family friendly show? Nope. They’d recast him before they’d kill off and 11-12-13 however old he’s supposed to be now!! kid.
[adrotate group="5"]Jenna_BParticipantOk, I finally just through the past 10 pages or so – what a busy weekend!
Some thoughts –
1) Those spoilers – yeah, definitely not much by the way of spoilers.
I think the only thing that really seemed like a spoiler is the apparent dispelling of the WW as either the character in the Wizard of Oz movie and the Wicked play* RG, that was my first attempt at blocking out a spoiler, if it didn’t work, forgive me!
2) Neal, Neal, Neal.
I think it would be a terrible, and more importantly, totally unbelievable thing, if Emma didn’t still love him in some way. I am positive she truly loved him – when she was 17. In my experience, you can love someone and when for whatever reason (cough *letting her go to jail* cough) it doesn’t work out, a tiny part of you is still going to love that person. Even though you move forward, change, and love again. And that’s ok. That love likely will not even continue to be romantic – it may become platonic, friendly, even familial. Love is not finite. And just because you loved someone in the past, it doesn’t diminish your ability to love, or the amount of love you have, for others that come after.
More importantly, he’s the father of her child – growing up without family, there is no way Emma is not going to try to have some kind of relationship with Neal. And Neal, also abandoned, is going to do everything in his power to be the best father he can be, and part of that means having a good relationship with his child’s mother. But that doesn’t mean the love is romantic. I’m glad they showed Emma, Henry and Neal have their moment to say goodbye in 3×11, and I think all of them believe “it’s not over,” but that’s because they are family. And part of a large, insane family, that does not give up just because something silly like being in a different realm comes between them. But I didn’t even feel like Neal himself meant those words as romantic. Neal finally has a family – finally has a son and a father. And yes, even finally has Emma back in his life. But the Emma he knows today is not the Emma he knew at 17. So no, since he just got his family back, it’s not over. And again, that’s ok. Admirable. Expected.
Even if there were no Hook, and Neal and Emma tried to re-establish some kind of romantic relationship, it wouldn’t work. Not after everything each has been through. Emma felt forced to abandon her own child, after thinking she had been abandoned by Neal. And yes, Emma will likely be able to forgive Neal for sending her to jail because that’s the kind of person she is – and I do actually believe he thought he was doing the right thing. But you can’t forget. And for Neal, he moved on. He was engaged. He found love again. Which is a totally normal, reasonable thing to do. But these are simply obstacles that are, in my opinion, simply impossible to get over. And – He has more IMPORTANT things to deal with than trying to re-establish a romantic relationship with the woman who is completely changed from the 17 year old her knew – like trying to develop the relationship with his son and his father – who we all know, is not dead.3) Hook and Belle
We’ll never see Hook apologize to Belle. And that’s not because he doesn’t feel sorry, or even that it doesn’t happen. It’s because we as the audience don’t need to see it. We know Belle. If she can forgive the things Rumple has done – to others, to her – she can forgive Hook. Her ability to forgive kind of angers me because, really, she’s forgiven some things that to another would simply be unforgiveable, but that’s who she is. I’d really love to see her punch Rumple and Hook in the faces instead of just forgive and move on, but that’s simply not who she is. EMMA would punch Hook and Rumple in the face (or other places!) — but not Belle. Besides, I just don’t think Hook and Belle are going to have much joint screen time. It would be such a disservice to Belle if she is not finally given a decent storyline – and I think Belle and Neal’s storyline will have much more to do with finding Rumple than it will with either Hook or Emma. And it’s a storyline that I would like to see, not because I’m CS and therefore it takes Neal out of the picture, but because it’s the more compelling story than some silly corner of a love triange (Neal) or the throwaway character with tons of potential (Belle).Ok, that’s a lot of thoughts! And now it’s 10:55pm EST and I should really get to bed – Monday comes too quickly!
Jenna_BParticipantAgreed CE…. I will try & get some screen grabs of Emma’s NY apartment tomorrow- I’m keen to analyze it to death, then analyze it some more lol
Yes please do!! I mentioned something about wanting to analyze the NY apt a few pages back but it was at the tail end of the most recent brouhaha – we definitely need something to analyze to death and I’m not all that awesome at screen grabs and stuff!!!
Jenna_BParticipantPretty on target for me!
1) Hook / Emma / Tinkerbell
4) Robin Hood
5) Charming
6) Pan / Rumple / Regina
One odd thing – Snow didn’t make it onto my list at all…I mean, I like her more than Jefferson and August…
Jenna_BParticipantOk, first the cruddy scene of Emma & Hook at the Golden Globes, now THAT picture? The guy looks good alllll the time…how do they manage to find the slivers of bad and why do they insist on using them??
Jenna_BParticipantI love EVERYTHING sincerelygsh writes:
Do you ever just re-watch something and get super emotional then you have to talk about it!? That just happened. So bare with me.It’s simply imaginable what this scene meant on Hook’s end, to be of use, to be her partner because canonically, that’s what he is in this scene. They are sitting around a fire with her parents. Yet, he’s the one taking care of her with the subtle gesture of offering a drink and proving that he is in fact, always a gentleman. The fact of the matter is, from what we’ve seen on screen, Emma’s always taking care of others but with Hook, it’s all about her. I read somewhere that we often talk more about Emma’s happiness, but that’s sort of what’s so great about Captain Swan even right now when they’re not yet a couple. The thing with Hook is, he’s so in love with Emma that these little moments undoubtedly mean the world to him. When she allows him to be there for her, she gives him irreplaceable happiness. His love is written all over him – the way he looks at her crystallizes how wonderstruck he is. Based on instances like this one, it’s gorgeously evident how immaculately happy loving her makes him. It ceaselessly inspires him to be better and because his world has been filled with such incandescent beauty, it’s impossible not to do everything in his power to be a man worthy of her heart. When you think about it, this scene really isn’t that big of a deal, they kissed two episodes later and an elaborate confession followed, there was plenty of other things he could’ve done – ie: catch up with Tink (old friend right?) -, but as the audience, we saw him sitting next to Emma with the Charmings. They may not have been cuddling like Snow and Charming, but they were comfortably sitting next to one another sharing a drink, establishing a form of intimacy. These significant fragments tell the story. We get to watch them get closer, find hope with one another, and ultimately work as an unwavering team. This is a show about fairytales; therefore, most of the time, the hero and heroine fall in love rather quickly, but their pace is incredibly wonderful for a series. Their story is presented too gracefully not to find them enchanting beyond words.I love it! Easily my favorite 3 seconds or so of 3A. Of course, that’s probably a given, considering my avatar…
Sigh. Swoon. Sigh.
Jenna_BParticipanthttp://hellowherearemypeople.tumblr.com/post/73541942348/why-is-snow-white-pushing-for-swanfire-hint-it An interesting viewpoint on why Snow ships SF that I hadn’t considered. Originally, my take was more that she was pushing for SF partly because of Hook’s misdeeds in S2, and partly for Emma’s earlier admission of love for Neal rather than her own guilt in abandoning Emma. Its good to have another perspective and gave me some food for thought. Sorry, I don’t know how to post the meta here.
Very nice! I like that theory. And it definitely makes sense. haha, I do like the last line though – “I’ve seen the show”.
Jenna_BParticipantI see what you are saying but to me that would be a waste of screen time. Emma could see through Snow’s eyes and with the baby how desperate Snow wanted a baby and to see Snow’s mother side vs friend side since she stated they have the same experience Emma can finally accept Snow as her mother more. Besides like what could Snow do if she is pregnant or have a baby with her she can’t fight anymore so this might make Emma more aware that she has too move on that bitterness has to stop in my opinion.
@HappyEndings, I like your thoughts. Personally, I never really understood why it was so horrible to/for Emma that Snow wanted a second child. I know, abandonment issues, etc etc, but honestly? Emma’s about 30 years old. She’s found her family, she loves her family, but she does have some serious walls still up. It’s not intentional, but she can make it very difficult for her parents to love her as parents (which, of course, makes sense). Snow, too, is about 30. She didn’t get to raise her first child. It seems natural to me that she would want a second child while she still can.I also felt that Snow isn’t the type of person to replace someone (this case, Emma) with someone else (new baby). I think Snow, though aware Emma may be uncomfortable with this desire, would feel that a baby could be the one thing that brings them all together. Snow is absolutely the kind of person that would want to share the experience of raising a child with Emma, not exclude Emma from the experience. And it gives Emma the ability to have some small idea of what it might have been like to raise Henry. So I thought the idea of Snowing having a second child presents a lot more positive for everyone than negative.
Jenna_BParticipantOk, kids, new topic. Emma’s NY apt. This could go in more general threads but I’m sticking to our haven for a bit. So I’ll ask you — does anyone have any decent screen shots of the apt, or know of any? Ever since I saw the ship’s sail on the wall – in addition to the other things we’ve found here and there and chatted about – I’ve been dying to really look at the apt and see how many things I can find that relate to the years Emma was in Storybrooke. (And if they just so happen to be CS, so be it! haha) And of course, it gives me something different but OUAT to obsess about over the next few weeks!
So far we’ve got
– the apt #
– the chains from 2×6
– the plants
– that pic on the wall near the door – it reminds me of NL but I have to analyze it to death…uh, more…
– the ship’s sail on the wall
Others anyone else has found?
Jenna_BParticipantOk, I might be in the minority here, but I for one do NOT want to see Emma and Hook getting married! Maybe it’s because I am married myself – but marriage is BORING! Watching Emma and Hook check out china patterns? No thanks. I think it was @HappyEndings who mentioned something to the effect of CS and countertops being used for reasons other than their intended purposes…give me that! Let one of the already boring couples get married and argue about who’s going to wash the dishes and put their clothes in the hamper and not the floor. haha.
One of the great things about OUAT is that they don’t totally screw up the show when they put a highly anticipated couple together and then blame the “Moonlighting Curse”. I want so see the CS courtship – now that will be fun. Colin said something to the effect of wanting to see Hook on a date at Comic Con – that’s what I want! CS, and I think Outlaw Queen, are going to be the couples to provide the fun and the passion and I’m looking so forward to it.
yes. I have been hoping for a ball type scene where hook shows up and everyone is thinking wow the pirate is a gentleman. .. lol when needed. and asks Emma for a dance. of course she is less than thrilled but charms her into it. and she is surprised at how much she enjoys it and everyone is watching them and sees love there. lol sorry for the rambling. I was away a few days from the site and got all excited when I saw the current topic. I have to back track a few pages now and get caught up. love love love this idea.
Now this, I can get behind. I’d love to see a giant ball and all of the characters in their signature gowns. Hook in a suit just might be even better than Hook’s pirate getup. Yes, I can definitely get behind the idea of having a ball…. 🙂
