ParticipantI agree. I enjoyed the Snow scenes, but I definitely would have cut something else to include this. I am glad we at least get to see it–and now, too, rather than waiting till next summer. But your anger is fully justified.

ParticipantWell, Adam said it’s canon so I’m putting it on my timeline spreadsheet. (I’ll have to guess at where it would go though.) *sigh*
It really should have been there. It smacks of setup for later stuff this season, too.

ParticipantGah, why are they deleting awesome scenes? At least they’re giving them to us now. I’ve wanted Henry and Rumple to actually talk since Manhattan–they’ve exchanged all of like ten words since they learned they were related.

ParticipantThe problem with her saving Marian’s life is that we also saw her tell Sidney that she had to get rid of Marian in a way that cast no suspicion on her. So saving Marian’s life…could be a way to give her an alibi later. (You know, like giving Belle the fake dagger gave Rumple an alibi later…)
So even some of the good stuff she has done is shaded over with suspicion for the audience now.

ParticipantI think it’s because we’re discussing Regina more than the others–to say Regina has done x or y says NOTHING about what Hook/Rumple have done. Both of them have been pretty self-centered too: Hook’s vengeance mattered more than Belle’s life (or Emma’s at one point), for example. “Protecting” Bae (or avenging him) mattered a lot more to Rumple than anything else.
But while it’s fair to compare the villains/antiheroes, a comment about one does not mean that the crimes/good deeds of another are being ignored.

ParticipantWell, for Regina it’s rarely mattered what it meant for anyone else. She is an inherently self-centered woman, and that is what has made her a villain–she pursues what she wants regardless of how it affects others. She’s occasionally moved past that, but it’s a habit that’s clearly going to die hard.

ParticipantIn terms of Regina, have we discussed whether or not the reason she cant attain or happiness as easily as Rumpel for example, is because this is the price of the curse at work?
Um….I don’t think he attained happiness at all. Yes, he got to reconcile with his son…who then DIED. He only had a few hours where both Belle and Bae were in his life. He had to literally die himself to stop his own father from killing his son and true love, facing every fear he had in the process.
Not easy at all. Regina’s been through a lot, but she hasn’t died yet–and for the moment, she has the person she loves most, her son, with her.
And yes, for the moment, he’s in that flicker of happiness of marrying his true love, but there are things dangling over that happiness like the swinging axe in The Pendulum and we, and he, all know it.
For a short time Regina was happy with Robin and her son, too. The fact that her happiness ended a little bit sooner than Rumple’s will (and we know it will) doesn’t change that fact.
Anyway, if they all had their happy endings, the show would be over.
But -if- you want to argue that the curse hurt her more than Rumple, I agree. He engineered it that way. He had about 150 years to plan it that Regina didn’t. He’s a smart man who gained extra insight and literal foresight with the powers he got as the DO and from the Seer, plus a century and then some of experience before Regina was even born. She’s a very intelligent woman (he’s said so himself), but he’s a virtual god in terms of knowledge & ability (and the fact that she occasionally has beaten him at his own games is a testament to just how bright she is, so I’m not knocking Regina at all by saying this). He’s had the advantage the whole time with regards to the curse–and any other deal he’s made–because he planned it that way.

ParticipantRegina’s struggling with doing the wrong/right thing right now. She doesn’t want Henry to see her as a monster, so she’s pushing him away while she plots against Marian (whether she’ll go through with it is another story, but she HAS initiated something with Sidney).
It’s not entirely OOC for her to try to protect Henry that way–we’ve seen her wipe his memory, keep her entire thing with Graham from him by lying to him, etc etc. (And to be fair, both his moms aren’t being entirely upfront about their lives with Henry–Emma’s not telling him about Hook either.)
But I think that’s what’s really going on–she’s feeling like she’s being a monster and she doesn’t want him to know about it.

ParticipantI liked getting more Charming backstory. It makes more sense that he learned a bit of swordplay before he was a prince, even if he still seems to have a natural talent for it. And now we know when his dad died and how, which was a blank before; the story had its weaknesses but it still worked for me.
Henry actually got to DO stuff this episode. As himself. I loved that. He’s barely gotten to do anything real since he was kidnapped by Pan.
Rumple’s gonna be in trouble. But we knew that. But I did love that they were at least in the episode, and Rumple stole the scenes as usual. I always love him with David (they are my OTBroship).
And honestly when the show embraces its underlying camp, I tend to enjoy it. I actually liked Hook this episode (I generally do, but a lot of the CS stuff just feels like him trying TOO hard–here, I actually felt like he cared about Emma for her own sake for a few minutes). It’s clear I’m going to have to resign myself to CS eventually, so I’d like to not hate every second of it–this was a step in that direction.

ParticipantTo be fair, her princess training was cut off early when Regina tried to kill her, so she didn’t necessarily learn everything about ruling a kingdom before she was actually in charge (and then only for a year or two before the curse, and a year where she’s under constant threat after they go back).
Her Storybrooke persona was given knowledge about being an elementary school teacher, not a mayor or electrician.
So it makes sense she might not be completely ready to rule a town. But she and David ARE the people that Storybrooke runs to; they are the heirs to two kingdoms at least (Leopold’s and George’s). (Why, say, Thomas’s dad–an actual king too–doesn’t get more “HELP HELP” runs is purely a matter of who our main characters are, I think. And anyway, they ran to the Charmings for help even back in the EF.)
