ParticipantMore sneak peeks so soon?
I think her gift is that she’s going to return Regina’s memory of the missing year.
Which makes me also think that a, Regina’s not going to be able to share it for some reason (possibly she simply won’t want to) and b) if she actually does get her memory back, it’s gonna be shut down again somehow (she’ll be locked up or otherwise incapacitated) at the showdown.
Oh, and she does take responsibility for Neal’s death. Rather gleefully too. (Grr.)

ParticipantI have a feeling a great deal will happen between “five minutes” and Regina’s arrival–a, she’s gonna show up at the last possible second anyway, but look at how Rumple’s hand is raised when she does arrive. Zelena’s gonna give the command just before Regina does show her face.

ParticipantThe glance between Rumple and Belle said so so so much without even a gesture. Those two are truly talented.

ParticipantTo dismiss what characters say simply because you disagree with the writers is to ignore major parts of what happened. What a character believes is not necessarily the truth…but it’s not irrelevant, nor is it not part of the story.
I do agree it was a bit OOC for Neal to go for the magic solution instead of looking for something else, but the writers who created the characters said this is what he did at this point in his existence. They gave reasonable motivations for it, if not entirely convincing ones, and so that’s the story. Rumple and Zelena both behaved as if, within the story’s moral framework, Zelena was the one who bore the guilt for what happened.
I’m not absolving Neal (or the writers) for Neal’s mistake. What I am saying is that it’s ridiculously to dismiss Zelena’s guilt here. Neal’s death is at least in large part due to her intervention.

ParticipantJust FYI, the Swan Princess movie (good as it was) was NOT Disney, so any references to it will not be as likely/overt as to Disney canon.
However, that doesn’t mean it’s not a reference, and obviously the classic tale is more than fair game. In fact, Sofia the First has quite the liking for swans.

ParticipantIt just hit me (late to the party, I figure): “All the voices in my head will be quiet when I’m dead.” Rumple was challenging Zelena to kill him there, and it’s clear that the price of keeping two souls in one body was destroying his mind, but…he was both Neal and Rumple when he said it. And when one of them was dead…the voices were quiet.
*sniff*
Meanwhile, I’m finding the speculation by CS that Emma’s peasant dress and Hook’s new outfit somehow indicate an inevitable wedding quite annoying, like they’re dancing on Neal’s grave even if they don’t mean to be. I don’t know what’s up with the new outfits, of course, but I seriously don’t believe that our princess and heir to (at least) two kingdoms is getting married in a muddy, if pretty, peasant outfit. Anyway, I don’t buy it.

ParticipantNeal obviously did NOT consider that the price might be his life. He also firmly believed that his father was stronger than the witch and capable of remaining outside of her control. Yes, he dismissed the costs when he shouldn’t have, but he was still in partial ignorance when he used the key. That shifts more of the blame to Zelena in my opinion, and obviously Rumple agrees–because that is what he yells at her when she shows up. And she responds with “Oops,” in a clear admission that she is partially at fault.
I’d put it at 60% Zelena, 10% Lumiere, and 30% Neal. But on my spreadsheet you basically get chalked up 1 per death you’re involved in. Which is why right now I’ve got Rumple and Snow each taking a hit for Cora’s death (but not Regina–hmm, what was my thinking then? Actually, similar to now–she didn’t KNOW that’s what she was doing, just as Neal didn’t know he was killing himself).

ParticipantYeah, Neal made a choice. But if I were going to put credit for his death somewhere, it would be on Zelena. She set it in motion, just as Regina gets credit for killing a village when all she did was order her guards to do it. Neal only chose to disregard unknown costs; it didn’t occur to him that his life might be the cost. Zelena knew it, and manipulated Lumiere into playing on Neal and Belle’s desperation. Lumiere, incidentally, slightly redeemed himself in saving Belle.
