She hated Snow, but Snow acknowledges her as her stepmother a few times in the series I think (like when she and David are trying to work out Henry’s family tree–she says that Regina is both his mother and his step-great-grandmother). So while I don’t think Regina considers Snow to be her daughter (or ever really did), Snow does see Regina as her stepmother.

And I agree that in general the continuance of the relationship depends upon the emotional attachments between parties. But that can be true for biofamily, too–plenty of people refer to estranged fathers as merely “sperm donors” or simply don’t acknowledge siblings with whom they’ve had a serious break. And more and more people are coming to view non-married parental figures as such, though we don’t entirely have clean labels for all those possible relationships yet.

Honestly, given the pain that is a canon ship like Rumbelle (and as beautiful as it is, it IS pain…so much pain…), do the SQers really want to be canon? The same people who are throwing hate about what was said today would be throwing hate about its being done wrong anyway, were they to have their way.

I love this show and I love this fandom, and I’m saddened when we can’t get along. I have sympathy for people whose hopes don’t pan out (I didn’t get nearly enough Belle in S2, and some of what I did get was frustrating), but not when it becomes lashing out at the creators who actually gave us something this amazing to obsess over. The actors and creators work SO hard on it, and plus the actors are all super adorable in every way possible; they deserve only our love and devotion, even in those instances when for whatever reason the show falls short of our very high expectations.

Yeah, ok, I can see why they’re a bit ticked. But I never really saw SQ anyway. I get the appeal, but I think the SQ fans who are raging right now might be a little delusional about their ship’s potential. Storywise? Yeah, it had great potential. Characterwise I don’t see it, not the way that Emma and Regina have been portrayed. But it’s a beautiful fanon ship…and you never know when they’ll give you nice fuel for your fanon stuff.
