ParticipantNah, Snowing is definitely a major couple–the entirety of S1 was dedicated to their coming together in both worlds. The first half of S2 reprised that slightly as they were separated again; they were put a tiny bit to the back burner in the second half because of the Rumple/Neal arc and the Cora/Snow arc and then the whole GOAT thing, but always important. I was actually surprised that Rumbelle didn’t get -more- action in S2, but I’d say they were the major romantic arc we saw in S2, with SF and CS being teased along but neither coming to any kind of resolution. And I think S2 was less about romance than S1 anyway–it was about family and the internal struggle of good vs evil.

ParticipantWell, Pinocchio was there with her, and he knew she’d been born earlier that day. But yeah, they probably could tell anyway–things like the state of the umbilical cord would have told them stuff.

ParticipantYeah, and we saw Regina kiss Graham, but I don’t think you can count them as a legit couple or even canon. They were together…but it wasn’t romantic (or even by choice on Graham’s part). So what do you do with that + your definition?

ParticipantAm saying again what I know you’ve already read me write, RG:
I think TLK is complicated and requires a level of faith and sacrifice to work on both parties’s parts to actually work. When Rumple doubts her motives as the kiss is working, it reverses–because suddenly he no longer trusts her and is no longer willing to sacrifice for her the way he was just moments before. (And the sacrifice was that he had set her free despite liking her company, while she had given up her freedom to come back to him.)
I think this holds true in the other instance we’ve seen TLK work: Snow ate the apple to save Charming, who had already risked his life a number of times on her behalf and had, immediately before, fought Maleficent to get Rumple’s help so he could give her that kiss. So the kiss worked. Likewise, when it brought back Snow’s memory in the EF, he had just flung himself in front of an arrow to save her soul, and she was so moved by it that she trusted him and was willing to give up the protection she thought the potion had given her. And when Snow brings David back from the sleeping curse with TLK, they’d already shown their devotion–but again, he’d sacrificed himself to the curse to try to save her. I don’t think their kisses worked during the curse partly because there was no magic (Emma brought her own), but also because they didn’t have that complete trust/willingness to sacrifice for one another.
With Henry, he ate the apple to save Emma and she fought the dragon (same one in both cases, hahaha, love parallels in this show) to save him. And they’d had the whole first season to learn to trust each other–Emma finally trusted him fully when she believed.
We’ve seen that Phillip and Aurora were willing to sacrifice for one another.
I think the kiss in 201 didn’t remove the DO curse because at that moment Rumple was already plotting how to violate the promise he’d just made to her; he wasn’t willing to sacrifice his power to be with her.
Which is why I’m completely baffled by the kisses in the finale. They darn well better come up with an explanation, because I don’t think he had any reservations left at that point, nor she. What’s it TAKE?

ParticipantThat’s why I’m hoping that in the first couple of eps she finds Neal and finds a way to get to him; then they can have splendid adventures going to rescue Rumple. And they can bring Mulan and Grumpy.
Okay, I’m just going to be over here fantasizing and maybe fanficcing…

ParticipantI don’t think it’s so much trying to help her redeem herself as a) telling her the truth and b) trying to make up a little bit for having her mom killed (I think he genuinely DOES have sympathy for her on that point). He’s always told Regina the truth, more or less; he told her she didn’t have to become like Cora, that dead is dead, that people didn’t like her because she slaughtered an entire village, etc. And there he’s telling her the truth again–that she can’t hurt Henry’s family and still have Henry’s love and affection–something she knows (she said as much to Cora) but keeps fighting.
(Telling the truth != complete honesty, of course, most especially in his case!)
And no, he can’t just choose to get rid of it (though TLK might do the trick)…but shedding it might be necessary for him to be a true hero.

ParticipantNo, I’m expecting her to go to him, with Neal. Which will be even more epic, and put them on more equal footing. But let’s see…he’s seen her abducted and imprisoned for 30 years, kidnapped by her own father, handcuffed by a werewolf, nearly killed by a pirate, mindwiped by same, brainwashed by Regina, targeted by the Sheriff of Nottingham for less than savory activities… He might have reason to see her as fragile and at risk. Yet he did acknowledge in 211 that she had saved him, and I don’t think that, after 204, he believes he can get away with babying her completely. That doesn’t mean he won’t try to protect her.

ParticipantI like Snowing, but while I watched from the start of the series it was Rumbelle that got me hooked completely. This is probably because I’ve identified with Belle of the Disney version since I was a teenager (I was 11 when the movie came out, so I can’t say since I was a little kid like some girls). The complexity of their relationship is powerful for me, though I definitely see some parallels between Snowing and Rumbelle (which is why Rumple’s always asking Charming for advice, heehee–those are some of my fave moments).
But like Rumple, I ship all three 🙂

ParticipantRumple likes Emma and respects her, but her death wouldn’t wound him the way that Belle’s would. He’s already been through that pain and fears it above everything except losing his son. I think, especially after the ship incident, he DOES recognize her abilities…but he’s a very paternalistic person in a lot of ways (look at how he treats Swanfire, though at least in that case, he actually IS the father, or how he talks to Regina after Cora’s death). And when it comes to Belle, he’s promised to protect her (122), and loves her very dearly.
So yeah, I wanted her on the ship, too, but the two people who’ve hurt her most (three if you count Rumple himself) are on that ship, going to face a threat he thinks all of them should fear, and a prophecy that he’s pretty sure means the end for him (which means he would cease being able to protect her at some point). Would you let her come if you were him?
