The fact that Rumple asked Belle to cast the protection spell makes me think he believes she DOES have magic ability. And I think she can run SB WAY better than Prince Charming was (as much as I love him). Mayor Belle? I think Ruby and Leroy would get behind that campaign, and most of the town trusts them as extensions of the Charmings.

I dunno. I was pretty shocked he’d part with her, too, but I do think he’s trying to protect her. I’d love to see her get SB safe, regrow the beans, and find out that Neal’s alive. I really, really hope that they don’t write her out of the show, because she’s AWESOME. I mean, Adam’s tweets suggest that they’re not planning to…but after last year, I was expecting TONS of Belle this season. She did get two-point-five episodes, but the rest were just moments. Literally. Red got even less, which is also tragic considering she’s part of the Family, too–she’s Snow’s adopted sister–and an amazing talent.

Other than the ominousness of leaving Belle behind–which COULD be awesome if done just right but I’m not sure I can trust them to do it–the episode was pretty good. I’m SO glad that they finally acknowledged the Grumpy/Belle relationship again. Jeez. About TIME!

This show just needs more episodes. Many many many more episodes. Lots of them. Forever. Never enough time to do everything they need to with their amazing cast and premise.

We’ve never really seen how Gold feels about being both, and he’s been both in every post-curse scene we’ve had outside of 217. Jefferson hated it and felt it was driving him crazy, but Gold seemed to take it in stride when he was awoken by Emma’s name.

David used his Nolan self to tell him what he doesn’t want to be; while Snow uses the “we were cursed!” line for the things she did as MM that she’s not so happy about, she seems to have embraced her MM personality (and Storybrooke itself) a lot more than most of the other chars re their cursed selves. I think only Granny seems more into being her cursed side than her FTL side than MM pre-killing-Cora. Whale’s been dealing with it all by drinking, but I think part of it is that he still wants to help his brother and isn’t able to (yet). Ruby already had to deal with being a “both” once, but once she learned she could still control the wolf, she seems to embrace her FTL self far more than her Storybrooke side. The dwarves went back to being dwarves quite quickly (save poor Sneezy who has no choice). And Regina likes being Mayor but she was never actually cursed.

It’s hard to say for sure–it depends upon the individual character–what side a character would favor of himself. Gold, I think, actually likes being Gold over being Rumple, but he always hated certain parts of himself. Loathed. And he got special privileges with the curse, so his deal as Gold was sweet save for the loneliness and disdain from others that he was already used to. I think he also likes that the Gold part balances out some of the Dark One insanity–not all of it, obviously–and uses that to his advantage as much as he’s able.

So what will Belle truly think? I think she will, like David and Red, favor her FTL self, since she was far closer to achieving her own ideals in that world, as they were–she had proven herself brave and heroic and kind, all things she values. Whereas the characters who favor their Storybrooke selves were not as happy in FTL; Snow’s life was one big tragedy after another, thanks to Cora and later Regina’s constant targeting of her. She had moments of happiness with David, and she tried hard to live up to her ideals, but as she pointed out in 215, almost every decision she made led to more tragedy. The people she loved died, or lost loved ones, because she was involved. So it makes sense that she favors her MM self, who might have been meek and waffly and capable of bad decisions that hurt others, but at least wasn’t (knowingly) involved in a hopeless blood feud or three. MM was at least kind, and able to help her students in a way that Snow failed to help her people, putting MM actually closer to Snow’s ideals than Snow was able to be (due to circumstances rather than personality, of course). That might in part be why David calls her MM more often than Snow now.

Granny, likewise, seems to be living closer to her ideals as the owner of the most popular diner and inn in town. With the curse broken, her relationship with Ruby is no longer contentious, and that was the worst part of the curse for her; in FTL, she wasn’t able to be the Grandmother she wanted to be for Red, because of the lies she was living with. She couldn’t even sleep at night. But SB Granny is capable and relied upon by much of the town, and has rewarding work to do.

I can’t see Belle embracing most of Lacey’s traits even if they were always a (small) part of her. Lacey just doesn’t match her ideal self the way that she had already managed to become in FTL. So I think like others whose FTL selves were, or had become, close to their ideals, she will favor her Belle self. (thank goodness.)

Well, believing that magic exists is probably easier than believing that every memory you have in your head save the very most recent is a fabrication–that your very identity is all lies. And Belle, having actually seen it moments after she lost her memories, was already primed to believe in a way that Emma was not–plus, pure/amnesiac Belle was not nearly so cynical ans skeptical as Emma.

Random thought occurred to me: Before the curse was broken, Emma brought back Graham’s memories by kissing him and some people suggested she should kiss all of Storybrooke. What if she/Henry have the power to bring back Belle and Sneezy and just don’t know it? Maybe not kissing (oh cripes did I just write an Emma/Sneezy ship?) but something they’re capable of because of their relationship to the curse?

My headcanon is that George wound up in the Asylum with Sidney, as a more secure prison than the jail cells at the sheriff’s office. But yeah, George is probably the biggest bad left over from FTL (that we know of) who is still around, beside Regina and Rumple who are mixed bags and both antiheroes in the show anyway.

Zoso did appear scaly when he wasn’t trying to hide his appearance. We have not seen Rumple attempt to hide his appearance very much as the Dark One–he clearly has the ability but rarely has the desire to.

One thing that sticks out in my mind is Belle’s speech to him–“no matter how thick you make your skin, that doesn’t change…” which makes me wonder if he has the ability to change the scaliness (we know due to makeup shifts, its appearance isn’t always consistent–but it also seems thicker when he’s crazier and thinner when he’s saner), or if it reflects his inner mindstate somewhat. Of course, Belle doesn’t know all the details of his curse, so she might just be flinging words at him at that point–but it could be a clue.

The more interesting question, since the change happened as soon as he killed Zoso, is why he didn’t revert when he brought back magic. The only answer I’ve been able to come up with for that is: We are both. It probably has to do with the same clause of the curse that allows Archie to remain human.

Colin’s flippin’ hot. Very swoonable. It’s okay. You can like him AND Bobby. It’s legal.

The only times they’ve ever let Rumple babysit Henry were when Emma had to run after Neal in NY and when they put him to sleep at Gold’s shop to talk to Aurora (and I don’t think Regina/David left him there alone). I’m sure there’s an explanation for why they went there to talk to him about it though.

I’m still thinking it’s NeverLondon, so it’s not -quite- our London. It’s the only way I can make the timeline function in my head.

After all, Jefferson did say that there are millions of worlds all parallel to one another. And the Land Without Color sure looks a lot like a particular time/place in our world, too (save for being B&W).
