KebParticipant
It’s also possible that the soil in Maine is better suited to the growing of beans than whatever soil they had in FTL in the clouds.
OR: Magic is different here, deary.

KebParticipantAdam said it was what August “desperately wanted,” so I guess it counts as a happy outcome for him. Clearly it’s not what Neal wanted, and I doubt Emma would want it, either. Of the three, Neal had the most say in his fate–he didn’t choose to be separated from his father, but he did choose to leave the Enchanted Forest. Pinocchio was seven (at least in boy-age; who knows his actual age) and he lost all guidance in that moment (no cricket!); Geppetto almost physically put him in the wardrobe. And I think he regretted almost everything from the moment he left Emma to the moment he came back to Storybrooke to try to put things right; when the curse broke he already felt defeated and like a failure. I don’t think he was really happy, though he was always seeking pleasure, from the moment he entered that wardrobe.
Emma of course had no say at all in the matter, but that means she also doesn’t have any real point to go back to–if you go back to infancy then you lose EVERYTHING that makes you yourself, so of course she wouldn’t want that. She’s got things to be a grownup for, like Henry. So, incidentally, does Neal–who had just found out he was a father when his dad pulled that on him. SRSLY Gold?
August didn’t have anything real to show for those 29 years, apparently. Just a lot of mistakes.

KebParticipantI’m still hoping for TLK to cure Rumple of the Dark One curse, but…yeah, hopeless Rumbelle fangirl here.

KebParticipantOh, yeah, specially when he realizes she’s playing Neal the way she is. That is a fight I want to see.
Of course, Carlyle said that in ep 22 there was a gamechanger between Gold and Neal, and now I'm wondering if it's not Henry but Tamara that Rumple does something horrible to, and Neal can't forgive him for it.

KebParticipantI’m so glad I wasn’t the only one wondering this. His reaction when Emma asked why she was coming really suggests that this is the case, and it’s obvious that Tamara was angling for a particular result when she targeted him. It’s possible that she simply has him infatuated, but…he apparently waited for Emma for a decade and then they’re engaged after about a year?

March 25, 2013 at 2:50 pm in reply to: Favorite / Least Favorite Moments "Selfless, Brave and True" #182137KebParticipantI laughed really hard at David’s reaction to MM’s confession toward the end. That was probably my favorite moment.

KebParticipantHonestly, the episode kept me on the edge of my seat, and I don’t mind Pinocchio getting his second chance with his father so much as apparently some in the fandom do. I did think that before that happened, though, August really needed a chance to properly apologize to Neal and Emma–or at least explain his thinking. It left a lot unresolved for him, that now can’t be resolved properly. I was also kinda hoping that his hiding out had to do with more than just shame for being wooden; this is the man who faked being Bae, knew about Rumple’s dagger, and freakin’ tried to USE it. Rumple only let him live then because he wanted the curse ended, too. Granted, Gold’s been a little busy since the curse ended, but some acknowledgement of all that would’ve been nice, yanno?
(Of course, even David knew about the dagger once he remembered FTL, so maybe it’s not such a big secret. Blue might have told him when they were plotting to capture the Dark One though, so it might not be THAT common of knowledge. Cora could have found out from Hook, who spent three centuries learning how one might kill the Dark One… I’m going really off topic here though.)
But yeah, the worst part was the complete lack of Rumbelle. Snow says it’s been a whole WEEK since Cora died at this point, and nobody even mentions Gold. Bae’s still in town and Gold’s not stalking the heck out of him in hopes of a full reconciliation? Nobody mentions whether or not Bae’s cool with what happened? (We know David sure wasn’t happy about it, but isn’t Bae’s response more relevant to Gold?)
And that means that Belle’s been in the hospital for almost two weeks. It’s been a week since Gold called her up and made her cry. If Bae isn’t talking to him, then Belle’s Gold’s other obvious priority (and while it’s unlike him to say so, it’s reasonable to assume that’s why he was so eager to leave the Charmings to their own Regina-defenses). She’s interacted with Greg, which is really relevant to the last two episodes that she wasn’t in at all.
The lack of Hook and Regina didn’t help, either. The “villains” really do make this show–the best moments were Regina’s last night, and they were all too brief. No stab-happy pirate, no Rumbelle…so many loose ends and not enough August mysteries cleared up. Gah. It’s a lot to ask of one episode, but again it feels like things are being overlooked.
Not the best way to leave us for a long hiatus at all, though I guess saving some of this stuff for the first ep after wasn’t a bad idea either.

KebParticipantThe Blue Fairy’s powers are limited, too….and it seems like people tend to go to Rumple first during his reign as the DO. Jiminy did, and the Blue Fairy couldn’t undo Rumple’s curse on Geppetto’s parents.

KebParticipantEmma’s favor was more valuable than the baby, but Rumple’s dealt with a number of babies. He traded James to King George, acquired Henry (by means as yet unknown and apparently while cursed as Mr. Gold), and it’s implied that he attempted to get Regina anyways at some point between his failed deal with Cora and what we’ve seen afterwards.
Honestly though, I think the man just really likes babies/kids. He was actually pretty cool to Henry before he associated his grandson with the prophecy–and that was without knowing they were related. And he’s always wanted a family, from the earliest we’ve seen him. His entire quest for almost 300 years was to be reunited with his son.
I think as far as his deals go, they’re valuable–he doesn’t need money so he goes for stuff with a higher value. They can be bargained for greater goods (like a favor from the savior) with ease, because of the emotions that go along with them.
