Well, they’re not related per se, but Hook did have a relationship with Neal’s mother Milah, and Neal is Emma’s son. So biologically, no relationship between Emma and Hook…emotionally, a very very complicated and weird one.

KebParticipantWell, the Phantom is a beauty and the beast story, so it’s an easy connection to make.

Because of the new curse and because of their shared history, going outside Storybrooke for legal affairs isn’t really going to happen. And aside from all the stuff that the Charmings know about Regina’s murderous past (including multiple attempts on Snow’s life–who, remember, was also Regina’s child via marriage), Emma saw personally that Regina intended to poison her and succeeded in poisoning Henry as a result. Even by Land Without Magic laws, that poisoned turnover would be enough to take Henry away from Regina and into protective custody.

KebParticipantI think their reasoning that, given the risk of losing his memories, Rumple would leave some kind of clues for himself isn’t that far out. Whether Hook/Cora could correctly interpret those clues is another question.

February 27, 2013 at 7:09 pm in reply to: Where is August/Pinocchio? Theories about his role? #175782KebParticipantI have a horrible theory (since I’d like to think Rumple’s changed a bit, but he did have Smee locked up somewhere for at least a little while…) that Gold’s got August hidden away somewhere. Why? August is a threat: He knows about the dagger, and actually tried to use it to control Gold. Gold has good reasons to not want lots of people knowing about that dagger, especially with magic back.
Alternatively, Gold’s been a little distracted since magic came back with his Bae quest and Belle’s presence. Maybe he didn’t take the precaution of securing August. August knows full well that Gold’s aware now of what he knows and only let him go because he wanted the curse ended. If he’s got any sense, he went into hiding outside of Storybrooke–assuming that magic allowed him the ability to do so. He was never cursed, so he could leave without losing his memories.
It’s possible he has other motives for hiding out–shame or fear with regards to his father/Blue. Or some temptation out there. But at this point I strongly suspect that either Gold knows exactly where he is, or August is doing everything in his power to prevent that.

KebParticipantMy theory: Stories happen again and again. Never quite the same way, but, for example, even within the Once world, Rumple has bartered multiple babies around in similar manners. Cinderella’s story blended with the classic Rumplestiltskin story arc, yet we have every reason to think that Cora’s story ALSO followed that trajectory at some point. People who study fairytales have actually classified them into types; people who study stories have argued that there are as few as twelve or three actual stories and every novel, movie, etc is just a variation of those core stories.
Another theory: Since fate and destiny does seem to exist in this universe, some Seer or something composed some of the stories, and they escaped from other worlds into ours.
Another theory: Time travel. Cuz why not.

KebParticipantEvil’s made not born, Dearie.
Rumple may have a similar issue–he was fairly brave and has done very brave things even before he became the DO. (Sometimes foolish, but there you go.) Yet everyone assumed he would be a coward and everyone called him one, and so he now thinks of himself as a coward–and in some ways he became what they thought, just differently from how anyone would expect.

KebParticipantI think the similarities are quite intentional…they also do their hair similarly at times, and both have ridiculously blue eyes (Emilie’s are SO blue…and while Belle really should have hazel if they want to go by the cartoon, the blue matches her blue dresses too well to complain).
They’ve also played up similarities in their personalities–both of them dislike cowardice and want to see the world. Both are willing to fight for the people they love (Milah got hold of a bean to trade for her and Hook’s life, while Belle has fought for Rumple and traded her own freedom for her family/friend’s lives). And obviously Rumple fell for both of them, but as we’ve seen with Sidney, love isn’t always mutual at all, even in FTL.
I think the similarities between the women highlight their differences, though. And, especially in regards to Rumple, those differences are quite bright. Belle’s been harshly honest with Rumple, but not cruel the way that Milah was. And Belle clearly gives him strength to fight his inner demons, while Milah helped create them.
