KebParticipant
Perhaps she never really wanted kids after she lost Daniel. She wasn’t really in love with Graham; he was just hot and useful, so maybe she didn’t want his kids.
I have this theory running in my head that she adopted Henry because August brought him to Storybrooke, and she didn’t want to risk anyone else having him and learning about the curse as a result. So she made a deal with Gold to get the baby, and then fell in love with him as she took on the role of mother.

KebParticipantIt’s okay. I guess whoever was moderating the list stopped 🙂

KebParticipantOh! More evidence that the deal thing -might- precede the DO: Zoso tells Rumple “Looks like you made a deal you didn’t understand. Bet you won’t do that again.” Only he does, at least twice…he agrees to take the Seer’s powers not knowing the torture they represent, and he agrees to Bae’s deal not realizing that it’s even possible. Arguably he knew what would come of signing onto Cinderella’s fake deal (he later said he was where he wanted to be), but the reason Charming knew it would work is that Rumple can’t resist deals. Early DO Rumple certainly couldn’t anymore than late DO Rumple.

KebParticipantYeah, I was thinking that too–she never said when, though.
Rumple’s clearly a highly intelligent person, but that feeds into his cowardice because he is such a quick thinker–he can picture and freak out about the ramifications of things too quickly even before he gains a Seer’s powers.

KebParticipantYeah, there was clearly some time that had passed between the two, though not more than a year. Besides, I suspect that Rumple was always inclined to make deals…they just didn’t have any force until he had power to back up his end of it. After all, Bae made a deal with him, knowing that his father would a) be very likely to honor a deal and b) would have a hard time resisting it. It may be a trait that precedes the Dark One powers.
Slight evidence for this: He makes an informal deal with the child Seer: Water for what she knows.
Speculative evidence for this: Perhaps he made a deal to get Milah as his wife. That might explain why she married him but “never loved” him (though she at least behaved in a loving way at first).
Other speculative evidence: Mr. Gold apparently loved deals as much as Rumple, even before Emma showed up. We see plenty of evidence that he was still dealing as Mr. Gold–the deal for Henry with Regina, loans to Moe that must have preceded Emma’s arrival, etc etc. His Mr. Gold identity regained his old limp…like I said, though, this is really speculative. We haven’t seen enough of young Rumple to really conclude that the deal thing preceded the Dark One, but it definitely seems to have become an ingrained trait by the time Bae made his bargain with his father.

KebParticipantBelle89, I PM’d you, but you only have to go back a few pages to find the first post after the date the episode aired to work out if anyone’s chosen what you want. That’s what I did before I claimed the key.

KebParticipantDrink every time the show calls out it’s own ridiculousness…like “You left me and let me go to jail because Pinocchio told you to?”

KebParticipantBae called him a coward once, too–at exactly the moment he was choosing magic over Bae.

February 22, 2013 at 4:13 pm in reply to: Disney and beyond – fairy tales / fantasy on screen #174845KebParticipantOh, goodness, where does one even start with this? Of course, I tended to prefer the books in most cases…
1. Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. Hands down, my all time favorite movie.
2. The Wizard of Oz…though this is a case where I love the books even more than the movie.
3. The Black Cauldron. (Books are way better though.)
4. Labyrinth deserves a nod here.
5. Spaceballs. I actually liked it better than Star Wars as a kid. Sure, it’s a spoof, but it’s got its own story and characters.
6. I’ll put Harry Potter on here, but I still have yet to see the final movies. (And the books were, again, better.)
7. Rainbow Brite. A childhood obsession, but the cartoons/movies still hold up when I go back to them now. And that was a fascinating fantasy world–wish that they could have created more than they did.
8. Going Postal. Based on Terry Pratchett’s novel, which is part of the Discworld series. (Can you tell I like reading?) Pratchett is one of the best fantasy authors alive, and I highly recommend the books. But the 2-part TV movie they made for it (which last I saw is on Netflix) is totally worth watching in its own right.
9. Ella Enchanted. (Book’s better. Still, they made a good movie out of it–a very different movie in some respects, but solid.)
10. Avatar: The Last Airbender. The cartoon series, not the movie, which sucked all the life out of the characters. How is it possible to take something that epic and fail that hard? But anyway, it was brilliantly done all over the place.Keeper of Belle's Gold magic, sand dollar, cloaks, purple FTL outfit, spell scroll, library key, copy of Romeo and Juliet, and cry-muffling pillow, Rumple's doll, overcoat, and strength, and The Timeline. KebParticipantHook didn’t leave for Neverland till after Milah was killed. It’s possible that they traveled a bit in the maybe a decade they had together, but…
