Okay. More Oz lore works for me. IF they can bring Belle into it (since she KNOWS Oz lore) all the better.

My sense is that they will say Neal died with no unfinished business so he’s in heaven (or whatever the show’s mythological “good” resting place is, and that’s why he cannot be brought back. But he died without getting to raise his son or even say goodbye to him, so that’s going to sound hollow to me.

No, but seriously, I’m getting angry thinking about this too much. Robin Hood, who has a NEWBORN and a 5yo son to take care of, is choosing to leave them (with whom?) and go to hell with his girlfriend to resurrect a man he has almost no connection with–they’ve barely interacted on screen. Meanwhile, Belle, who is actually Killian’s FRIEND now, who is the smartest cookie they have besides Rumple, who is Emma’s step-sorta-MIL through Henry, who AT THIS MOMENT IC has absolutely NO reason to be left behind other than Rumple wants to keep his DO status secret (even though he and Emma just told EVERYONE else she knows)…
SHE gets left behind.
It is possible that they can redeem this by having Robin going just to say goodbye and then staying behind, but…
It sure didn’t look like that’s where they were going with it.

I’m assuming that either the fairies are still caring for the babies (maybe they never picked them up that night?) or Rumple’s cover story to Belle involved her taking care of the whole day care situation, and that’s why she believes she’s being left behind.
But. SERIOUSLY.

They also seem to think Liam 2 is a throwaway character, based on those post-mortem interviews. And that is really, really sad, because there is a lot of emotional potential in Hook’s dealing with what he did to his own brother, in their forging a relationship now possibly. If the show’s going to be all about Hook, let’s at least let him deal with his family.
They really dropped the ball with this storyline (at least thus far). Papa Hook’s connection to anything outside of this one flashback was nil, when it could have provided gaspy moments or at least fulfilling ones by connecting it to Ursula, Ariel, Davey Jones, Black Beard, Belle (who, if you recall, was the lure that got Hook in touch with Regina to start with)…a million things. But no. It’s completely random and disconnected from everything. And the brother is irrelevant except for being a catalyst for Hook’s murder.
It’s possible for them to fix this in the future somehow; Papa Jones was lying, perhaps, or Liam 2 becomes an important thread in his own right, but the way they dismissed Liam 2 in the one interview makes me think they don’t really see that as a possibility. And they already have so many more established dropped threads to pick up that there’s not really room for it in the current sphere of things.
That’s the other issue with this backstory. Because it was so disconnected and didn’t provide any real characterization for Hook we didn’t already have (we know he’s a murderer, we knew his father abandoned him and Liam at sea), it was a waste of an opportunity to close out Camelot properly or link Hook to Merida or SOMETHING that would actually fit in with the shape of 5A’s arc. It honestly feels like once they revealed that Hook was the DO, 5A’s arc just crumbled–nothing else really mattered except the CS angst (and the trumped up OOC Rumbelle angst…let’s not go there here). It’s a bigger ball drop than the hyped Queens of Darkness, because at least their stories got closure before they vanished–Cruella died, Ursula reunited with daddy, and Maleficent reunited with her daughter. But everyone from Camelot and Dun Broch was just left floating in forgotten character land, their fates still up in the air in the woods of Storybrooke.

I really fear that Rumple will have dealt with the Belle issue by putting her to sleep or something.

It would be nice if this were more about spoilers and less about having to explain what they failed to explain in the show’s canon.
Where they seem to be coming from with Rumple’s choices…makes a little more sense now. It made NONE in the ep.
I’m on board with a Belle pregnancy IF it means screentime for her. If not, just…no.

1) Belle having a presence that is meaningful and IC for her. (Already unlikely when they leave her behind.)
2) Henry having actual purpose in the plot.
3) At least DEALING with the Neal issue.
4) Character development for Rumple.
5) Finding a way to solve what they did to Rumbelle.
6) Regina & Zelena & Cora actually talking together. All three of them.
7) All the dropped storylines being picked up. Mulan, Aurora, etc.
8) Belle developing a friendship that actually has relevance in the plot…I mean, she’s close enough to David that he trusts her with his baby, close enough to Henry that he immediately texts her when the Dark Ones are gone, close enough to Killian that she saved his life…but it never seems to matter.
9) Rumple finally choosing Belle over power. For real.
10) Belle breaking the DO curse with TLK. For real.
