November 29, 2015 at 9:27 pm in reply to: FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE MOMENTS IN 5×10 “ BROKEN HEART ” #313175KebParticipant
Yay Belle existed!
Liked:
–Rumple’s speech to Belle about his intentions, giving her a fair choice
–Belle kinda mattering a tiny bit for once
–Rumple looking sexy as he ever has on the ship when Hook takes the limp away
–Rumple using his brains to best Hook
–Rumple having mercy on Hook. Sorta.
–Hook being the Hookiest he’s ever been. Colin was clearly having fun. I think Bobby was too.
–Henry helping Emma. Emma going to Henry for help.
–Arrow to the knee. Hehehehe.
–Shall we cut it open and count the rings?Disliked:
–Belle dumping Rumple after getting his hopes up by showing up. Just…no. (More on this later. Much more.)
–The suggestion that being DO corrupts Hook so quickly that he almost instantly hates Emma. His reasoning for being angry makes sense, but we KNOW DOs can love intensely AND truly even if they continuously hurt the people they love because of the darkness. If Hook’s SO TRUE LOVE for Emma…..he never would have said the things he said to her.
–So all you need for a curse now is a bubbling cauldron and a heart to crush? It took Regina 9 bloody months to put the original curse together, and presumably a little time to do it in S3 for Snow and David. And that’s after Rumple spent centuries getting the whole thing organized. It was just too easy and the railing in my head against it overwhelmed the emotional impact of “Nimue” killing Merlin etc. Consistency good, this bad.
–Dancing around the word rape with what Zelena did to Robin, though at least they addressed that it was vile.
–While I don’t want Baby Hood taken from Zelena, I also don’t like this concept of her being Zelena’s only hope of salvation. With Regina, while Henry might have been her motivation to try to become good…she had other reasons (and not all of them were Robin). She saw that goodness meant being invited into a world of warmth and love that she had always wanted to be a part of. And it was a slow, actually well orchestrated transformation for the most part. Zelena doesn’t get to turn good overnight just because she has a baby to love. It’s not fair to the baby and it’s not fair to her. If that’s how they play it, I will be disappointed.OKAY NOW TO MY RUMBELLE RANTY QUESTION THEORY THING:
Belle at the well did NOT seem quite like herself. Either the writers made a very OOC choice with her to up the tension and create artificial (at this point) drama, because we know Rumbelle can never be together until The End, or…
Someone was controlling Belle to hurt Rumple. Hook, having been defeated on the ship, just might have done that, even if his real goal was getting Rumple’s blood. Other than the fact that Belle didn’t sound quite like Belle (hesitant, yes, wanting to take things slowly, sure–dumping him like that? I’m not buying it), there’s also the intentional parallelism of the well: Last time they were there, Regina was controlling Belle’s heart. So…there’s a motive (Hook wanting deeper vengeance than he got with the fight), a parallel, and the fact that Belle just didn’t sound right to me. It’s not a lot to go on because her character hasn’t been around enough to build any kind of consistency anyway…and for the sake of plot, we know the writers will make characters OOC (315 *cough*).
Yeah, I didn’t like it mostly because I like Rumbelle and I want Belle happy with her hero. But I also did not find it WORKING within the storyline.

November 27, 2015 at 2:44 pm in reply to: EW 11/27 – Colin O'Donoghue Breaks Down Hook's Dark Turn #313128KebParticipantI was excited to get to explore that, because we talked about Hook’s father and he was cagey about it, so we get to see what happened in that backstory. It is linked with Regina, which is about all I can really say about it. It’s a fascinating insight into who Hook was back when he was Captain Hook, but not Killian Jones, if you know what I mean.
I…am confused. Presumably, Hook’s father left him (and Liam) when he was a boy. That’s what he told Baelfire. It’s possible he was lying, but we had no reason to believe that. Hook was born “centuries” ago, which means he’s at least a century older than Regina (I have his birth in 1822 right now, hers in 1937) and, according my calculations, goes to Neverland in 1862 after Liam’s death in 1848. So how in the world is anything to do with his father linked to Regina?

KebParticipantMay also relate to the concept of the Price of magic, and tie back into 502 (and possibly earlier prices paid or left unpaid).

KebParticipantBut that’s how Hook thinks. He doesn’t take into account that from Rumple’s perspective, Hook broke up his family and took his wife & the mother of his child (yes, Milah made that choice, but that’s how Rumple has expressed it–he’s not free of bias either). The blame game between those two has gone on centuries and neither accepts that the other even COULD have good reasons for what they’ve done–not that either has often been heroic in their choices.

KebParticipantColin is CLEARLY enjoying this role immensely. This scene looks like it was terribly fun to perform. And I’ll bet Bobby and Emilie were cracking up half the takes.
