Nice thing about studying English…you can choose to read what’s in the text instead of what the author says about what’s in the text. Neal is there. He matters.

FAVORITE & LEAST FAVORITE MOMENTS & DIALOGUE …. #310234KebParticipantI’m thinking maybe Rumple planted the info somehow in Camelot so he could get the gauntlet. He’s been known to do that sort of thing. BUT…it still felt off, and that’s me filling in holes. Not quite as plot-holey as their revision of what happened with Aurora, but still.
It’s possible that the entrance is within Camelot’s realm. After all, Merlin created the Dark One, and he’s associated with Camelot.

KebParticipantI knew it had to come and this time it’s part of the story so that much, I’m cool with. However there were two really problematic ways about how it played out:
–Putting the initial blame on Arthur’s “neglect” of Gwen. It’s trite, storytelling-wise, but it’s also problematic as it removes responsibility from the cheating parties.
–This was, I hope, intentionally creepy, but Gwen’s transformation under the sand’s effect was problematic in exactly the same way, only reversed and with abusive overtones.
By themselves, they’re only a little bit iffy, but when you add it to the show’s attitudes about cheating in general (it’s hot when OQ cheats on Marian? We’re not going to pull out the rape word when Zelena fakes being Marian on Robin? It’s okay that Snow and Charming cheated on each other because they were cursed? And Katherine was a victim but Whale gets slugged? Not even touching Belle + Will since they didn’t explain 9/10s of what they were doing with that anyway)…well, it gets to be a problematic world view of what they’re actually portraying. Yes, relationships are messy, good people make mistakes, but the real problem is how the show assigns responsibility for those mistakes.
They really, really need to leave cheating/rapey situations alone if they cannot handle their ramifications better.

KebParticipantBetween Rumple’s words about hurting the ones you love the most and the dreamcatchers, if they don’t mention Neal at all…I might finally buy the conspiracy to erase him.

KebParticipantI have a feeling Belle is going to get used as a pawn in this at some point too.
I’m excited about Merida teaching Rumple heroing though.
I’m clinging a bit to the idea that crossed my mind recently: That to be a true hero, Rumple needs to learn to truly love again. He lost that after coming back from death.

KebParticipantTheory (which I said before when it was spoilers):
She’s trying to use the dreamcatchers to block out the Rumple visions.
It’s also an obvious tie-back to her relationship with Neal (whether A&E admit it or not), and a connection to the first time she intentionally used magic (when Gold guided her to use the dreamcatcher to read Pongo’s memory).

Likes:
–Emma so pretty. I swear she’s prettier now in Camelot than ever before.
–The twist with Arthur using the sand on Gwen and his kingdom. It was creepy as heck watching Gwen’s shift, and a twist I didn’t quite see coming.
–Snowing turning on Arthur unexpectedly. After screaming at them not to do all the things they were doing it was good to see that come out to be their working together after all.
–Violet actually having a tiny reason to exist besides being Henry’s crush? Maybe?
–More Dark One lore.
–Callbacks to the gauntlet of plot deviceyness at least makes it slightly less pointless.
–Callback to Snow’s unicorn vision. Can…can the Charmings get used twice to cast a curse and still manage to live through it? (I mean, Regina said they can outlive a cockroach…and she’s not far off.)
–Hook helping Emma escape her visions…it was really sweet.
–Rumple pleading with Emma…so good to have him back in any form. The real one, too, not the vision in her head.
–Yay Merida-Lancelot broship!
–Yay Merida gets to do stuff!
Dislikes:
–No Belle. Grr. Made sense for her not to be there, but still grr.
–The avalon sand is awfully convenient. But it also looks like they’re down to the last bits of it. Has Arthur used that to solve every problem for the last five years then?
–Arthur was a stable boy, Violet’s family owns a stable. ARE THEY RELATED OR NOT? Come on guys, let us know who Violet is. It’s harder to be invested in her when she really feels thrown in as “Henry needs a love interest.” You don’t have to reveal the grand secrets about her–just make her someone we care about.
–Mostly I liked the Lance-Gwen-Arthur triangle development but the blame that the show seems to place on Arthur for not paying her enough attention and then the creepy bit where Gwen (under the spell) takes on the blame herself is…problematic for me. Your actions are your own, no matter what contributed to them. Given some of the other messages that the show has appeared to send about cheating and rape etc…I dunno, it makes for a problematic world view.

KebParticipantWell…it’s already changed the game. But I still have hope that they’ll have their true Beauty and the Beast story unfold.
Theory: To be the Savior, Emma had to learn not only to believe, but to love her son. To be heroes, her parents had to act on their love for each other. For Hook and Regina to become heroes, they too had to learn how to love in a more healthy manner–Regina had to learn to let go of the people she loved instead of clinging to them abusively, and Hook had to learn to let go of his desire to avenge Milah in order to embrace a new love and find a new reason to exist.
So maybe part of Rumple’s learning to be a hero will be that he has to learn how to love without hiding/pushing away the people he loves.
I doubt this show will go that deep. I expect it will probably involve fighting monsters instead. But that would be a beautiful twist to it–that he has to grow the bit of himself that was left, the bit that loves Bae, Henry, and Belle enough to die for them, to fill up his empty heart.

KebParticipant@rumbelleluv yes. we misspoke, what we meant to say was Belle didn't know WHILE Regina had it. She of course learned later

@isisKCA I clarified — we misspoke. What we meant was she didn't know WHILE Regina had it. She found out later. has yet to confront her

@EmilieVitnux and Belle has yet to confront Regina about it. And of course she was not happy about it. Sorry for the confusion.

At least Adam acknowledged the mistake. I feel slightly less annoyed now.
