KebParticipant
Emma gave Gold a blank check favor for Ella to keep her baby. Granted, this was before she believed in magic so she probably figured it couldn’t be all that bad, but still.
Emma is definitely a sacrificial person if she believes it will make a difference.

KebParticipantYeah, they do pretty (and talented) people on this show. YUM.
No mention of Belle or Rumple. Not even that they’re safe in Storybrooke. Ever feel like your “regulars” are the side story? Back in S2 I had so much hope for them to be PART of Henry’s family.

That would have been a much better excuse, and would have actually made some sense.
You mean Ancient Greek? Cause learning Greek letters in no way shape or form means you can translate ancient Greek, a really tricky language with 1000000000 endings and choice-specific words. Better excuse than the Royal Navy, to be sure, but still doesn’t make a lick of sense.
Hey, he had six whole weeks to master all that :p
I just prefer when the convenient excuses reference things in previous episodes. It’s more fun that way. (And yes, they’ve shown him in the navy but not doing any language study there…he was definitely researching magic stuff with Belle.)

KebParticipantI think the idea of sacrifice holds up, even within this episode, because the CS TL Test was “will Emma save Killian or her heart?” She had to risk sacrificing herself for him to pass the test. (I agree that she would’ve done that for anyone in her family, though, and possibly anyone as she’s the savior…but still, it was a loving sacrifice.)
It was a minor sacrifice, but Hades DID sacrifice something in almost the same moment as the TLK. And Zelena was willing to give in to that…letting go of the things that had held her back and taking a risk with her own heart, and she knew it was a risk to love him.
I think it still holds up, though there are some convolutions to the theory.

KebParticipantI dunno. They’ve done the fake out death followed by “real” death (I don’t trust any of the deaths anymore, given that a good third of them come back one way or another–and I don’t mean flashbacks) a few times, and they’ve feinted/teased other things before actually doing them too. The “haha we didn’t but NOW WE WILL” thing seems to amuse the writers. I think Robin’s in real danger.

KebParticipantThe thing that I believe makes TLK work is sacrificial love. (I’m trying to figure out how Zelena & Papa Jones fit in with this, but whatever…) Numerous characters have echoed sentiments about love being sacrifice. The moments when True Love stuff has worked were generally moments when both parties were willing to sacrifice for the other. When it hasn’t worked, it’s generally been because one party wasn’t In That Place (or was unable to BE in that place through lost memories).
But what about 3×19 when Regina’s TLK with Henry broke Zelena’s memory curse….
If I’m remembering right, Henry knew that it was his mom for that kiss; the kiss simply broke the rest of the curse. And both Henry and Regina had proven by that point that they were willing to sacrifice everything for the other’s happiness/life.

KebParticipantI dunno. After tonight I’m kinda thinking that it’s Hook’s funeral. But as for who won’t survive…well. They feinted on Robin tonight and they almost always do a feint before killing someone.

Examples, you say? Yessir.
101(and some later episodes, but the same event), Charming wakes Snow White from the sleeping curse: Snow ate the apple to save Charming’s life, sacrificing her own. Charming fought through the infinite forest, Rumplestiltskin, and a dragon to get to Snow, proving that he was willing to sacrifice his own life in return.
112: Belle ALMOST breaks the DO Curse with Rumple: Rumple allows Belle to leave, showing that he’s willing to sacrifice a price and his obvious pleasure in her company for her happiness. Belle chooses to come back (in hopes of saving him from the curse), sacrificing her freedom for what she believes will be his happiness. It doesn’t work because he rejects it halfway through, but that’s another issue. It started to.
122: Emma breaks the sleeping curse on Henry: This parallels the Snow White-Charming kiss; he ate the apple to save Emma, and Emma fought a dragon to try to save him. Both were willing to sacrifice themselves for the other.
201: Phillip wakes Aurora: Though later canon suggests otherwise, Aurora tells us that she underwent the sleeping curse as a sacrifice to protect her kingdom and told Phillip to stay away. Phillip has been through a LOT to try to save her, too…so again, they’re both willing to sacrifice for the other in that moment, and we see more evidence as Phillip takes on the wraith to protect her.
Ruby risked going to the underworld to save Dorothy, the Regal Believer kiss happens only after Regina has given up Storybrooke AND Henry for Henry’s happiness, and even Hades seems willing to give up whatever power it is he has to be with Zelena–he gave up the contract for her, though still wondering how this will play out. But over and over again we see TLK working when both parties are willing to sacrifice their own happiness/life for the other’s, and not working when one or both can’t meet that standard.

KebParticipantYeah, I don’t see any way that Hook is truly gone for good. I am a bit interested to see how they revive him since that plan and Emma’s (rather ridiculous) one also failed though.
