I read his look as conflicted, not defeated.

First, he learned in the interaction that Belle isn’t over him, which means he might still have a chance, and he learned that the relationship with Will is new and unlike their relationship thus far. Those are things that Cruella tried to convince him weren’t true previously, so there’s reason for him to be a bit relieved at least.

But at the same time, the bit where he runs into and leans on the corner of the building–he’s just seen someone else making Belle light up and giggle the way he’d probably like to. When he comments that she seems so different–for the first time at least since their engagement, Belle’s free of the doubts and anxieties she had about her relationship with Rumple. She KNEW deep inside he was up to sneaky things but she refused to trust her instincts (we saw that in the mirror scene, and in how she looked questioningly at Rumple when they learned Zelena was gone) because she didn’t want to harm his “progress,” and because she has her own insecurities to deal with.

And I (admittedly still looking for what’s left of Rumple’s heart) read that as questioning what he’d done to her, questioning whether he could take away the happiness she has apparently found after he left. He wants her back, but he’s never wanted to hurt her. And aside from his son, she’s probably the only one he’s ever felt that way about.

I presently have Bae going to London in 1861. (This puts Rumple at about 50 when he becomes the Dark One, and sets his age at 200 when Emma arrives in Storybrooke. Back when we first went to Neverland, I redid the math to lop 100 years off to account for Big Ben, that’s why it’s not 300.)

IF 1819 is the year Killian was born, and we get to see adorable baby Killian and his big brother (d’aw), and the rest of the flashbacks are after 1862ish, then…maaaaaaaaybe. That would make Killian around 40 when he first goes to Neverland.

Here’s the thing: Bae was in London for SIX MONTHS, plus another 3 weeksish with the Darlings.

Rumple killed Milah AFTER Bae left.

Hook didn’t become Hook and didn’t go to Neverland until AFTER that (but enough before that he beat Bae to Neverland).

And Big Ben was there when Bae landed.

Since the date isn’t actually quoted, if there’s not more evidence (or possibly reasons why Hook would be around in 1819–maybe he’s Baby Killian?), I may wind up disregarding this date. What’s actually IN THE SHOW is my canon, with whatever A&E directly say supplementing, and further evidence coming after that (historical stuff like when Big Ben was built, stuff actors/writers say, stuff that makes sense in fan theorizing and doesn’t contradict the rest). At least for what I’m doing.

True enough, and I do wish they’d give us more bits of life in between the angst and action. They’re the moments that make us fall in love with the characters.

True, but he’s dating the Sheriff. Who is co-mommying with the Mayor, whose parents are the rulers of pretty much the whole town (never mind the fact that half the “peasants” are royalty in their own right), and whose mommy is/was besties with Granny’s granddaughter. So even if the doubloons run out…I think Granny might not have much choice but to tolerate him.

As for sleeping on the docks, I think he was scared to be around other people after attacking Will. He had to be there in the morning anyway, so he didn’t bother going back to his room.

A lot of random scenes since he’s come to Storybrooke made me think he had to be staying at Granny’s though–from the scene with Tink in the back hall to the location when Emma returned his heart to the same place where Emma told him he’s got a point in the hero column. So I just had that impression.

I think the timelining does alter how I watch the show, though, cuz I’m always looking for clues on that…and it spills over to watching other stuff. Like, I watched Oliver and Company the other night and there’s a calendar on the wall in the background and I’m like, OMG it’s April 21st, 1988!

…and then was very sad that I didn’t have a reason to put THAT on my timeline.

I was hoping they’d clear up what Gold did with Hook while he was tricking/groping/staring at Belle. And preferably when since it wasn’t clear whether Gold knows Regina’s whole deal or not. But he HAD to do something to pull that off safely.
