She makes a friend almost every episode she’s got backstory in. And then they NEVER EVER EVER let her talk to said friend again. EVER. (She got ONE more scene with Ruby after making friends with her…and they were both regulars at that point.)

Yeah but I am annoyed by that…I don’t mind shout-outs to the recent revision that was Maleficent but I’d much rather they took their own spin on things.
But! Belle will EXIST this episode so I am taking what crumbs I can and hoarding them in the corner.

The problem is that with Mal, she was intentionally preserved by the curse, and she was magical–her dust is like the dust of the urn or the bit of magic that Hook and Elsa brought to Rumple. Baelfire was not magical, so…it may be far more complicated to bring him back (magical rules–can’t bring back the dead, can’t change the past, can’t make someone truly love you–though of course between Once and Wonderland we’ve seen all but the last violated multiple times).

I think you may be on to something, but I’ll be incredibly disappointed if that’s the route they go. (I’m still hoping they find a way to bring back Baelfire somehow, I confess.)
Anyway, the fact that the DO can die outside of Storybrooke is consistent with the arc in 214-216; the only reason Hook was able to get the poison close to Rumple’s heart was because he struck in a land without magic. (Why bringing him back to Storybrooke didn’t automatically fix him…well…PLOT. But since it was a magical poison, I’ll…let it go.) He also can’t be controlled with the dagger in a land without magic, as we saw in The Return when August attempted and magic had not yet been brought to Storybrooke.
I think he’s also cautious about pinpointing Belle because he knows people like to use her as a weapon against him, and that puts her in danger. He likes to play his cards close to his chest anyway; here he’s got a solid motive to divert their suspicions because they know, we know, and he knows that he’s most likely going to betray the QoD at some point, and he doesn’t want to put Belle in more danger than he must.
As I said, I’m still hoping for everyone to go to the underworld and battle to get Baelfire’s soul returned. That could lead to Rumple sacrificing himself for a kind of happy ending for everyone else.
And I agree that Bobby has seemed less thrilled with the character with the heart of who he was ripped away by killing Neal. He’s still putting in an amazing performance though, and clearly still enjoys working with the others on the show; he’s just coping with having built a character for three seasons around a central purpose and obsession that was suddenly nullified (and for no good reason that I can yet see).

I expect there’s more to the story, but besides that–Cruella and Ursula have Rumple on their side for the moment, and he knows EVERYTHING.

Not as good as last week, but definitely had some sparkling moments.
Liked:
–Belle being fierce with Cruella & Ursula
–Geppetto being fierce protective Daddy and just generally awesome
–Cruella. I can see her occasionally channeling Glen Close and that bugs me slightly–but she’s so much fun I love having her on the screen.
–TIMELINE GOODIES…except now I have to move everything near the wedding by about 3 months because I had given them a year between that and Emma’s birth before. BUT. That’s okay! Every clue that makes it more *cough*accurate*cough* makes me happier.
–Rumple’s reactions to Belle…just…heartbreaking how he asked about her and then lit up when he saw her in the shop and then fell back when he saw her with Will…it was beautiful.
Disliked:
–Belle & Will. Knew it was coming, don’t like it (though I did think it was clever that they snuck in the two coffee cups long before I realized why he needed two). If they’re actually going to go down this road, they darn well better explain Certain Things very soon. I have faith that both will eventually return to their true loves, but with Belle still clearly brokenhearted over Rumple’s betrayal and missing him, and Will the same as far as we know, Not Exploring This is going to make me want to throw things. If they just shoved them together to create obstacles for Rumple…No Thank You. If it turns out as I expect, that they’re trying to move past loves that they can’t move past, and they eventually realize that (perhaps long before Rumple does), then…I’ll deal with it for now.
–The whole Snowing thing…Snow can suddenly keep a secret? Baby Nealflake + Snow with Blackened Heart was pure enough to go through the door that Reforming Regina couldn’t in S3, but now Baby Emma cancels out Snow’s heroism because she’s not a savior yet? WTH?
–The secret appears to be pretty much as I called it…I’ll decide later if it plays out well enough to be worth it, but so far…still don’t care that much. And I kinda disliked Snow a lot this episode, and I used to love her character…I came for Snow, stayed for Belle. (If they ruin Belle…make her TOO OOC with Will…I dunno.)
