ParticipantYeah, he’d ask for Belle, too. Just because he’s been lying to her and using her doesn’t mean he doesn’t care about & love her still. But what IS it he has to offer her? Interesting that we see him gathering data in this clip, too…
Also, dark, DQ, very dark.

ParticipantWhy do I suspect that Rumple is going to be among those who haven’t been forgiven? (We know he hasn’t really forgiven himself.) I bet Regina *cough* whines a bit about her own forgivenness…wonder, too, if we’ll explore more of the guilt/anger between Snow & Emma about Emma’s being made the savior.

ParticipantTrue but they’re reasonably good about the order of things (save for curtains). They just don’t care much about the time between, which is actually hilarious because the whole show is premised on the time between certain events and that tends to be how they label time jumps when they bother to.

ParticipantWell. We know that shortly AFTER Anna met Belle, Hook was in the EF WITH the Jolly Roger, thanks to Snow Drifts.
We don’t know quite how much time the Snow Queen spent with Anna & Elsa but it sure didn’t seem long at all.
(I’m still trying to work out 1982, but that aside–the events in Snow Drifts are somewhere between 1 and 3 years before the curse is cast, and should be closer to 3 based on Roland’s age in early S3. If 1982 is accurate and there are no time jumps, then that puts it under 2 years before the curse is cast–maximum 22 months before.)

ParticipantIf the ship’s not the Jolly Roger, should we ship the ships?

ParticipantNo Belle & No Rumple in any of the pics…*sigh*
Looks like CS & OQ both have some moments to look forward to, though, and I’m excited about Anna & Kristoff on Black Beard’s boat. For some reason that makes me want to giggle. I’m predicting a lot of pain for all the currently canon ships though…a lot of pain.

ParticipantThe fact that Belle’s name was in the press release with an actual verb after it in the same sentence is the best thing that’s happened to me today.
This tells you that my day has been really rotten.

ParticipantWell, we know that Pan made a deal with him to get off the island.
We don’t know what the deal was exactly though.
Oh, and we know that he was off the island before Snowing met, which is interesting to say the least.

ParticipantOkay, I’ll bite: Beauty and the Beast vs Rumbelle.
Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Disney animated film ever, and Rumbelle is what made me obsessed (rather than just a fan of) with Once. So this is going to be hard.
Rumbelle advantages:
–More time to tell the story (90 minutes vs so far four seasons)
–More complex characters (They don’t get more complex than Rumple, and Belle’s recent episodes have shed some light on how she’s more than just an ingenue with brains too)
–More costumes (and more costumes that one could, with Emilie’s legs and Mr. Gold’s budget, go to work in…which can be fun to get away with.)
–More screenshots & fanart possibilities (even with the sequels, there’s still a lot more to work with for Rumbelle, because more time overall–and bits from the other stories/locations/characters can be worked into scenes that fit the Beauty and the Beast story to expand the fan possibilities)
–Belle’s adventures with other princesses are The. Best. Thing. Ever. I just need to see her interact more with Snow & Emma now.
–The timeline. It’s fun and convoluted and not as interesting to do for the movie.
–Emilie & Bobby. Best on-screen chemistry in the history of chemistry. They make both characters beautiful, fun, interesting, and believable for me–even when they’re not given much to work with.
–Beast gets to be human (at least sometimes)–at least he gets to LOOK human about half the time. Most of the figurines/images/etc from the film keep him as the beast, because it’s more iconic, but the whole point is that his happy ending was to be himself–human–again. And I’m in the crowd that prefers the prince.
–Libraries. Belle’s gotten two (or four if you count her mother’s and the one in the mansion). Love the one in Beast’s castle, but…mmmm. More is better.
Beauty and the Beast advantages:
–It’s short. You can watch the whole thing, including the sequels, in one day now. (Back when there was just one season, that was…technically possible…and I might have done it once…but it’s a bad, bad idea.)
–Christmas special. It’s among the better sequels Disney produced in the 90s when they latched onto that as a way to make extra money. And it’s beautiful. And it’s Christmasy and I’m just WAITING for Thanksgiving to come so I can watch it (I don’t like to overdo Christmas, so…)
–Songs! Though it always bothered me that in the film, Belle doesn’t actually get a solo song to herself–almost all of them are ensemble pieces…which seems odd thematically since she’s a loner! Still, mmm songs.
–Cloaks. I love the costumes in Once to DEATH but in this particular field, despite the lack of detail and the animating mistakes, I prefer Belle’s cloaks in the cartoon. They’re easier to replicate and not so busy.
–Without this film, we wouldn’t have Rumbelle, certainly not the way it is. Belle’s character was, before Frozen, one of the most directly lifted from her film versions in Once (both look and personality). And if it hadn’t been for my obsession with the film, I’d never have discovered this amazing fan community, because I may not have been as interested in Once.
–Gaston & Lumiere: Actually more fleshed out in this version. I’m still hoping we’ll see more of Lumiere in Once, but I don’t think we will.
–Possibly a more healthy relationship model between Belle & Beast (Adam, yes I know it’s debated but it’s as good a name as any and better than many) and Belle & Rumple. The only person we actually see Adam kill is, sort of, Gaston, in self-defense. Rumple’s killed at least 17 people, including his first wife, and tortured plenty of others. And while Adam was willing to starve Belle into submission, Rumple’s lies to her are arguably a lot worse and a lot more dangerous for her. Plenty of people have very valid objections to Rumbelle, which I’m not going to get into here, but I’d say it’s fair to say their current relationship is not the healthiest. By the end of the film, though we viewers have to fill in a few blanks, it’s reasonable to believe that Adam & Belle are in a healthy relationship.
EDIT:
Oh yeah, the biggest advantage of the movie: Belle is IN it. For the whole film. Belle in Once gets constantly forgotten and then you have an ep where she matters and it’s like Oh, Yeah, we’ve had Belle all along! Yup!
