Yeah, that much I agree with. I was very frustrated with this ending and I can only assume it was forced (though it isn’t ENTIRELY OOC for her) because Emilie needed maternity leave…which probably also shades Snowing’s choice, as beautiful as that moment was.

KebParticipantI agree with you, and I question whether Maurice would be able to break the curse because his idea of loving his daughter is a bit twisted (and even Belle has clearly thought so as we saw in 204 when she temporarily cut him off). But remember who Belle is: She believes in the best in the people she cares about even when EVERYTHING is telling her not to. She is smart and she knows how magic and love work, bookwise anyway, but she also has intense affections for people, and I think it’s very hard for her to understand how someone could actually NOT love as intensely as she does.
She loves her father, therefore she believes in him and has difficulty seeing how it couldn’t be mutual or strong enough to save her from the sleeping curse.
It’s not a logical thing she’s doing exactly–it’s driven by her emotions of fear and love. She’s not trying to coerce Rumple; she’s trying to stop Hades from taking her child. And her faith in her father comes from her own emotions towards him, just as in the past her faith in Rumple has often done despite evidence that he was being less faithful to her (as in lying/clinging to his power, not cheating as in an affair).

And yeah, pouring the goopy mess in, or engineering it so that someone goes into the river, that he can do…but I think he has to have an agent to force someone to go into the river. That’s why he needed to set up the Rumple vs Gaston shoving match, why he had to force Rumple to throw Milah in, why Cora was the one threatening other people with it instead of Hades himself.
Something prevents him from adding to the river of lost souls without assistance, but he wants people there.

KebParticipantNah, I think Belle fully believes her father CAN save her, because SHE loves him that much.

Either that’s because he enjoys forcing other people to destroy each other or because just as he can’t touch the living without the proper protocol, he can’t destroy the souls without some intervening thing happening. Have we actually seen Hades himself put someone in the river without help?

KebParticipantI rewatched the scene…Belle’s expression when Rumple asks if she’s planning to force him to be the man she wants him to be really suggests that she hadn’t even considered that possibility in her plan, though her words suggest that it might have crossed her mind as she has an alternative plan anyway. I still think she’s not trying to manipulate him, but that will be the end result anyway.

KebParticipantYeah. Belle’s in a bad place right now–she just learned that her husband sold her child before they ever created it, her husband took back the DO powers just when he was free of them, and her husband killed her ex as well as his…and then because of all that SHE had to doublekill her ex which is serious trauma for her, plus her baby is STILL in danger and she’s not exactly thinking clearly. We know how far she was willing to go years after she accidentally hurt Anna.
She’s not trying to manipulate Rumple here. She’s doing a very, very silly thing to try to protect her baby from a new danger that has her terrified in this situation. I don’t think it’s entirely out of character and I don’t think she’s trying to control anything except for Hades’ ability to take her child from her.
I do think it was a very stupid writing decision, however. The couple was making actual progress toward a place where they could reconcile…and that’s been stopped cold by one party being out of the picture.

KebParticipantKing George would be an absolutely fascinating choice with both Rumple and James running around down there.
But I’m 99% sure they’ll never come up with that route.

KebParticipantNah, I know they won’t do that 🙂 And YES of course Emma needs to be with her family.
They are going to have to find a way to defeat the stones altogether to get out. About all there is to it.
