If Elsa’s trying to trick the guards, I wonder if Belle got word to her somehow about Anna being captive.

It did feel a little off that Belle would just leave Arendelle without trying to tell anyone about Anna being in trouble…though she was ashamed about it and she didn’t necessarily know whom to talk to.

…and now, for the first time in my life, I’m thinking about what the difference between wings and wingless relations would be with humanoids. Thank you.

Yeah, the makeup on a lot of characters has been occasionally distracting. Belle’s lipstick in the flashbacks for Family Business, for example…wth. Even Rumple’s makeup is sometimes a distraction–remember his nose in the Miller’s Daughter? It was like falling off or something.

They do such a good job with the costumes but sometimes I wonder what the makeup crew is thinking.

Well, they’ve never been in the EF while married…but marriage (like true love) is something I believe crosses realms. Regina set up a false marriage between David & Kathryn when David unexpectedly woke up, intentionally to put a barrier between David and Mary Margaret. It was based on memories that she manipulated with magic of things that had never happened and choices that David and Kathryn never made. (And in fact choices that we saw both of them reject–despite having the “opportunity”–in the EF while helping the other to be with their true loves.)

That makes it very different from Robin’s situation. He DID wed Marian, and she him. Likewise Snowing, Thomas & Ella (who may have married in both realms for all we know), Rumbelle, presumably Philora….etc. Of those, I think only Rumbelle never were married in the EF at all (though we don’t know how it went down with Philora, but it’s a reasonable assumption they’re married in some fashion), or before the most recent curse stuff went down.

I think they’re going to finally tell us what happened to Anna & Kristoff in the past at least, and I strongly suspect it’s going to be DQ who puts Elsa in the urn. I wonder if she trades Elsa to Rumple for the prophecy.

    First choice:

Bed: Hook. He’s hot but he’s also got a little bit of a geeky side (he’s surprisingly good at research) and I confess I like the smell of leather.

Wed: Rumple. He doesn’t cheat, he loves clothes and shinies, and he appreciates a good theatrical dance. Worth the risk of having one’s heart crushed. Obviously, one doesn’t cheat on him, so the bedding would have to be before.

Behead: I…this is hard for me, I don’t like killings. But if I have to, Cora. We can do it in Wonderland so she can survive if she’ll actually be nice.

    Gender Switch:

Bed: Maaaaaaaybe Emma. She’s pretty passionate and she knows how to pick locks and stuff, so it could be quite the adventure.

Wed: Belle. It would be weirdly like marrying a (much tinier) twin, but I’m of the opinion she’d make the perfect wife.

Behead: Right now…maybe Robin Hood for being a jerk to his family AND the woman he claims to love. But I don’t really want him dead. The one who most deserves it is probably George but I don’t want him dead either because I want more delicious George villainy. I wasn’t so attached to James. I guess he can die. Though it’s sad David never got to know his brother. This is hard!

I’d love it to be Blue, too, because I think that would be more interesting from the POV of the show’s established mythologies. They just haven’t done ANY setup for it this season, which is why I’m skeptical.

As for Rumple…he’s been playing a high-stakes gambling game for a couple of centuries now, ever since he decided to get the dagger. There’s a bit of a thrill in it for him (and given his father’s career choices, it may be somewhat hereditary). He likes testing people’s limits, figuring them out, and playing them to his own profit. He LOVES having power, which is why his collection is so important to him, and he fears being without it. His showmanship is part of how he perpetuates his power.

He’s gambling with Belle and he knew it the moment he gave her a fake dagger. He was ready to call off the gamble before he saw a higher payoff just within his reach (the hat and whatever it does for him beyond offering his freedom). But from his perspective, he’s won a lot more gambles than he’s lost; he still believes he can win this one.

I don’t think he could hate Belle. But there’s definitely some tension there–the way he said he could not deny the pleas of his beloved wife was dripping with it (and layers of meaning). And we’ve seen things cause him to treat her roughly/poorly before:

    1. 112: She “betrays” him with TLK. He believes she was put up to it by Regina, yells at her, shakes her, imprisons her, sends her away. But he doesn’t hate her–you can see it’s killing him to choose power over her, that he almost believes her, and how eagerly he’d offer her a home if she needed it.

    2. 201: She catches him in his untruth, and says she thought he’d changed. He sarcastically says, “What, in the hour you’ve known me?” She leaves–and he immediately apologizes, but later tells her she’s better off leaving him. (I think that statement may be the closest parallel to his statement in 407, actually.)

    3. 211: She desperately wants to help him find Hook, and he wants to protect her from the pirate. He’s already on an emotional outburst at that point, but he does yell at her and demand she do things his way.

Her betrayal cut him deeply but he can’t even express that because her guilt cuts him worse–he knows he’s doing the wrong thing by lying to her. He gave her his forgiveness, but he doesn’t forgive easily. I think it definitely created a tension where the veneer of power balance was shattered in their marriage,  and Rumple being Rumple, he can’t keep away a little bit of snark–and yet there is a double layer of truth to what he’s saying, too: without the dagger being involved, he’d still be inclined to listen to her just because he loves her, yet he now knows he CAN’T deny her because she’s crossed that line and shown herself capable of forcing him.

We know that Cora’s children were not borne of true love and both of them were born with powerful magical abilities.

I DO believe that both Henry and the baby will have magic powers and are TL babies. That may add something special to their magic, but it’s not what makes them magical in and of itself.
