Finding the hat changed his mind about letting Belle have the dagger. It’s a Big Big deal to him. I think it’s about more than just being free of the dagger (which, yes, is big). I think it could lead him back to Baelfire somehow.

Rumple’s been defeated quite a few times, but one of the things that IS loveable about him is that he almost always finds another way (and of course gets his revenge in the process…).

I’ve never believed that Rumple would give up trying to save his son from death. I’m still hoping to see that storyline.

That doesn’t say he wants world domination–just that what he wants is beyond Storybrooke.

And if what he wants is to either have maximum power or to get Bae back, that makes sense.

I don’t think that really is his goal. That’s what DQ assumed his goal would be, but I do think she’s right with the “everything” comment: He wants his power and his love. That’s a lot right there.

I love the theory that he needs Blue, and I absolutely agree that it would fit with his character to react that way to the idea. But since they haven’t even mentioned Blue this season, I dunno if they’d go that direction…it would be rather out of the (ahem) blue.

Honestly, even to keep with the mythology of the movie this wasn’t a necessary move storytelling-wise. To make the plot of “wait, who the heck is this woman?” work, yeah, they needed to wipe memories. And it’s getting a little old…I couldn’t stop thinking about how lame it was to have Regina drink a memory potion so she wouldn’t undo all of S1 by knowing who Emma was from the start.

But that’s a writer issue, not a character issue, so Gerda’s choice:

1. There are bound to be questions and some of those might lead to serious questions about her legitimacy as a ruler. After all, she just put the rightful heir/queen in a jar, and with the other sister dead, she took over the kingdom with that act. Ingrid, who was going to run away in the first place, may well have agreed with Gerda’s becoming queen at the time, but the people might not understand that (and what proof would they have?)

2. Gerda’s scared. She just lost her sisters–one in self defense from the one who killed the other. She may not be thinking through all the repercussions. I think in some ways it’s on Grand Pabbie to make the better long-term decision here…so it’s possible that there’s more to the political situation he and Gerda are seeing that we, focused as we are on the princesses, don’t see. Grand Pabbie seconds the motion and carries it through, though…so it’s not JUST Gerda doing it.

Even so…I’m not sure such an extreme act was justified. It’s certainly historically supported, though–plenty of cases where subsequent rulers did their best to eradicate predecessors from public memory. Obviously they didn’t have magic to completely do so, but there are Egyptian examples where the face of a particular ruler has been scratched off lots of monuments. Defacing, you see?

In this case, Gerda was doing it out of fear of what people would think (leading to possible unrest/uprising against her) and fear of what had just happened (maybe someone would bring Ingrid back…and Ingrid just became very, very scary).

How can it be complete while Roland’s mom is still a popsicle? I should think, from Roland’s perspective (he’s known Regina for a year, but as his dad’s gf? a week. So like 5 days longer than his revived mother–they are both new mother figures for him) that having his family complete includes having his mother in the picture.

And Henry’s family will never be complete without his father, no matter what configuration his parents’ relationships are in. He’ll make do as all children who lose a parent must, but part of him will always be missing.

I don’t think I’ve ever NOTP’d a ship on this show as much as this one. And that includes the crack ones and Cora & Rumple. Tonight just dug the hole deeper…and for a moment, one shining moment, I thought Regina was going to rise above it. But Robin didn’t let her.

Theory on how Hook could be used:

Hook is being portrayed as Emma’s (new) True Love. Emma, True Love Incarnate, having True Love for someone could be twisted and used to fuel something magical, don’t you think?

And they’ve been playing up the rivalry between Hook and Rumple (but not the one between him and Regina) this season. They’ve also pointed out quite directly how Rumple uses love as a weapon.

It fits a lot of thematic elements so far in S4 for Hook to somehow be the key he needs.

Also, Ingrid wants Emma to herself, so she wouldn’t care in the slightest about telling Rumple to kill Hook. Regina, meanwhile, seems to be a side thought to Ingrid.

They didn’t say one way or the other and it’s hard to tell at that age. But Baby Alex was also played by a child who appeared to be around 8 months old at most, while the timeline (even the bits that A&E will commit to) suggests that Alexandra should be about 14-18 months old. A child of that age is usually walking, looks like a toddler and not an infant, and is starting to say some coherent words. (I used to work in childcare, so…)
