ParticipantI was thinking of the symbolism there too. In the other thread, I brought up wraiths and Hades.
True about the clocks!

ParticipantI think Sandman works, or some mythological type figure, a God like Ursula perhaps? They have dipped into Greek myth before with Midas. It could lead to hercules/hades in a follow up on wraith with Phil and Aurora maybe?
I also think they have been planting clues this season to set up the next arc for 2nd half and as this half is done, crazy crack pot time: What if Oz is where wraiths take souls, a sort of underworld? We talked before about an Oz movie that Ethan Embry (greg) was in that sounded spookily like OUAT.
Well there is also a book:
The exciting new sequel to the Wizard of Oz!
The Land of Oz is dying. Emerald City has been conquered and the most valuable item in Oz is missing. The race for the Ozma is on and only one person knows where it is. Dorothy Gale.
There’s just one problem, Dorothy has grown up and forgotten all about her adventures in Oz. She’s been living in New York, working in an office cubicle, chained to her desk, wishing to escape her dreary, miserable existence. On one chilly November day, she gets her wish. An old enemy from Oz has tracked her down, sending her running for her life. Now Dorothy must follow a mysterious trail of clues left by her younger self, if she hopes to survive.
How can she get back to Oz if she doesn’t remember the way? And where is the Ozma?

ParticipantI think that idea is awesome and I hope Wendy does play a key role that way. NL is for children after all and she’s the one on their side now!
I think both versions of the guy are awful, but I had a small sliver of a speck of sympathy for Malcom as he tried to find someone to look after Rumple. Plus Malcom had not yet done all the super creepy things we’ve seen Pan do. I can imagine some will react to me saying Pan is worse t this way:

All I can say is, PLEASE no Wendy/Peter ship…..EEEK!

ParticipantI have no idea where they’ll go with Hook and Tink, but I do think Hook is very parallel to Regina S2! I almost wrote a post on that Slurpeez but it got long so I deleted some of it so glad you saw that too.
He is sincere about wanting to redeem himself, but he has not yet figured out that redemption is its own reward, as his motive is still to redeem himself in order to get his own happy ending. The same with Regina in S2, which led to her fall thinking “what does being good get me?”. If his methods are not working, if that happy ending takes too long, he might backslide. I am thinking that won’t happen, as Hook in general is less dark than Regina. He never defined his happiness as everyone else’s unhappiness (just Rumple’s and anyone close to Rumple like Belle and Bae perhaps).
He had some small moments of damage control and he could have caused more collateral damage at various points and chose not to do it. Sometimes it wasn’t his choice so much though, but “plot armor” for important characters (like when Regina interrupted him, or Belle saved Archie). I feel the writers wouldn’t want to do the same story either, but a more subtle parallel if they have it in mind. We’ll see, as it still feels obvious that the writers want to please Hook fans by featuring him heavily in generally favorable scenarios that reveal his better side for now. Whether they will go back to his flaws and weaknesses in a more obvious way (as in other characters calling him out, rather than fans who will obviously disagree about how to interpret his actions), I do not know. One thing I was thinking about the comparison though with Regina to Henry and Hook to Emma, obviously, a child can love more than one parent, but romantic love is a different story (well unless they take the wild approach people were rumoring for MAP!).
At some point, I think Hook is either going to be the person Emma wants or he will have to let her go to be able to fill his heart with someone who appreciates him for who he is, despite who he has been, and may never be again (both the positive and negative aspects). They are all “both”.I think that is one thing Charming and Snow struggle with now, is that David and MM and their somewhat myopic focus on romantic love is peeking out right now, which led to Snow hurting Emma a little bit by saying she’d stay on NL. I think it is a great point that Emma was the one to bring the hope up, and to believe it was possible. She’s believing in the possibility of a happy ending now, and I think Neal’s arrival marked the upward turn in her beliefs. On another note: Yes to what people said in chat about Neal Rowing. While they weren’t alone in that boat, and it was far far too soon, and it is Ariel and Eric’s thing, I couldn’t help but think of that scene “Kiss the Girl” from the Little Mermaid.

ParticipantI agree and Emma definitely glances at Hook then back at Neal. She has been thinking a certain way for years about Neal, but she undid her bad opinion of Hook in a matter of days it would seem. I bet she is realizing how hasty that was. She may still take time to realize who the better man is, but then she may struggle with whether she deserves Neal too. Hook is an easy option but he likely will not challenge her to be better, even if Hook might be motivated to appear better to get her to notice him. Neal is not concerned with good form but substance.
Look at all the subtle things:
Seeing Tink’s snarky versus warm reaction to seeing them again.
Neal’s reaction to her “I choose Henry” riot act versus Hook’s “Well eventually he’ll be safe and you’ll choose me.”
Neal’s reaction to Charming’s life being in danger, versus Hook’s.
The writers are slowly revealing that despite all those fans who want to think Hook is the “unselfish” man and Neal the “selfish” one, it’s actually the other way around. That feels very pride and prejudice to me, actually. Hook is totally giving me Wickham vibes, and Neal the Darcy ones. Silly as parallels can be, I guess we must wait to see what more there is.

ParticipantActually other way around-the pixie dust gets it from stars (yeah stars and sun are same thing, but apparently we’ll just overlook that). So it ought to be high?
I wonder if those trees are enchanted wood.

ParticipantI think Malcom is far worse than Milah. I think you have to include everything Mal did as PP, and his choices as PP go way beyond anything Milah ever did. She was miserable because of Rumple’s actions but before he ran out on his duty to the army, she was responsible and nice. She asked him to move but he would not, though now we understand better his fear of moving for a fresh start. It sounded like something she repeatedly asked. She appeared mad the moment he got home from the war but really she stuck around for 5 more years. It would seem plausible she developed her drinking and gambling habit then. We have no idea if Malcom picked that up after Rumple’s mother died, or if he was simply always that way.
Either way, Milah chose to leave Bae behind with a loving (though disabled and unpopular to the society) father. (Aside from Hook’s threat to kill him to take her back which we don’t know how much was Milah’s doing/ploy). Malcolm chose to leave Rumple with strangers. They may have been kind women, who treated Rumple well and provided him with the potential for a good life but it is not like Malcolm knew they would LOVE him. At least Milah knew that, and the way she left, at least it seemed at first (because of the challenge/duel) like she hadn’t chosen romantic love over her son. It WAS harsh to Rumple, but he was an adult who partially caused her misery by his actions.
It is something that comes up that parent and romantic relationships are different. So Mal as a father is expected to do more than perhaps a wife with husband where there’s more of a two-way street. We also can examine her to Bae of course, which is why I still say she was selfish and cruel too, but if we’re looking overall, she didn’t come off AS bad even without the PP stuff, but you add it in and Malcom is downright beyond messed up.
Malcom surpasses Cora now in all time twisted creepy. Milah was still irresponsible and selfish, like Malcom, but she did not maliciously seek Rumple or Bae out or set a trap for them. She did not spend centuries torturing his son, then try to kill his grandson. He caught her lover, and rather than letting it go and taking the bean in a fair trade Rumple pushed and asked her why she left and she was telling him how she felt. He was threatening her. He had all the power and he killed her for being blunt. Should she have said that? No, but she did not say it to crush his self-esteem and he was an adult. Mal said what he did to his son, at such a young age. Later on though, he definitely was trying to crush Rumple and insult him so he could become immortal by taking his greatgrandson’s heart!
