ParticipantI agree RG.
I was looking at the thread over the summer I started about “Your best crack theory–where is Peter Pan on the family Tree”–and I thought he was Hook’s father. Then Team Brothers became a real speculation, and now it looks like Rumple as Pan’s son could even be the truth of it! How funny.
So about the dad’s name, apparently it is the name for various kings of Scotland, including the one who takes over after Macbeth who killed his own father. They’ve mentioned that play before I think?

ParticipantDid they spoil the whole episode again? I skipped reading it but I am confused why they do this.

ParticipantPoM never fear on the long posts! Context is often left out of the really short posts, which is how we end up with people seeing only one side of a situation sometimes.
This show takes the time to switch up who’s perspective we see, so I do have sympathy for Hook, but at the same time, it is not sympathy to “get the girl” anymore than it was sympathy for Regina to “take the boy” when it came to Henry. We’ll see how this continues, but I think the story itself is not painting a very dark picture of Neal. Fans tend to be harder on the “good guys” and very lenient on the “bad guys” when it comes to conflicts. There’s plenty of people for example, who get angry at Emma about trying to claim Henry even though Regina did …well all the crazy stuff she did.
Neal’s shadow-gate seems even sillier now we know all you need is a simple candle in a coconut to trap it. OOOH dangerous. It’s not even like he needed a special magical box (but look, Belle found one!). A match and a candle, and a coconut, that’s the danger he was exposing Roland too. I’ll wait to see if more happens, but the way that scene was filmed, with Mulan and RH smiling at Neal, the music, then the follow up of Roland being put to sleep under the window–all of it had a very reassuring feeling to me. Yes, Neal showed a willingness to cross a line here, just like Emma, doing what needs to be done pretty or not to get her son back. He didn’t cross that far I think.
As for Rumple, well I look forward to their reunion. Perhaps Rumple will address Neal’s actions and we’ll all change our perspective about it. I really feel Neal had no choice there, because Rumple should have mentioned the prophecy to start with rather than try to hide it. It eroded the trust they need to rebuild in their relationship if it is ever to be healed.
That is the same for Emma and Neal–he is patient she didn’t tell him about the kiss, but at some point, Emma has to stop keeping things from Neal too. It’s not all on him here, but of course, that’s assuming she wants to heal things up. If she doesn’t, well nothing he is going to do will change her mind, and maybe both guys should find someone who can appreciate them for who they are, as they are and hope to be.
Maybe Emma will click with RH and we can have new angsty triangle!

ParticipantWow, can’t believe you read the whole thread! More cookies!
That song is very angsty. There is a refrain “How am I supposed to be an optimist about this”…and yet, that is the point. “So for us it’s how do two people who love each other come together when there’s so much hurt?” – Eddy Kitsis said. Most of us would not be able to recover in those circumstances but with the magic of hope, I think we see glimmers for Emma and Neal that they can rebuild even if it looks like they are buried under piles of hurt feelings, cocky pirates and who knows what else. So right now, optimism may be hard, but I feel like in some ways, some things haven’t changed at all for these two, in terms of what they want. They’re still just two people who want a home, family and have no grand ambitions of ruling or revenge or things like that.

Hugs for everyone!

ParticipantI doubt they’ll bring up true love in regard to Henry’s heart–it will be about Pan needing it done willingly but no explanation of WHY that is so, except it ties into needing Henry to believe in him.
We had a mention of Ursula as a Goddess., that no one believed in anymore much. That sounds familiar with Pan too–wondering what the story is here but I do think there’s a connection with wanting to be immortal, to be believed in and have followers.
Curious to see where they go with it all.

ParticipantWelcome Katie/MSKT –I adore your videos! I hope I don’t flood you with too many requests 😛 I ‘ll try to be reasonable!
Right now, the song that is haunting me for SF is Pompeii by Bastille. It feels like these two are seeing so much crumble around them and they may never be able to rebuild, but then again, it also seems like Charming is stuck on NL. This is an angsty moment so maybe next weeks we’ll get a more optimistic feel ! It can’t stay like this with all the hope sucked out.
Ranisha, I agree! A person has to change because they value change itself, not what it gets them (like Regina s2 gave up because being good did not bring her the expected rewards fast enough). They might be inspired by someone (as Gold is by Belle) but it can’t be their only reason for wanting to be good. I’d expected more real internal conflict and mature behavior on Hook’s part. Perhaps him looking wistful as Emma and Neal went off adventuring, then meanwhile if the writers wanted to do CS long term, we’d see how Emma and Neal bicker and fight. It wouldn’t have anything to do with Hook, but just, these two don’t work. THEN, Hook’s patience and concern for both of them, and Henry puts his desire for a relationship with Emma in a different light. That is not what we’re seeing though. Hook makes clear he’s ONLY here doing what he is doing to impress Emma. He also makes it clear, he doesn’t like it when she says she’s choosing Henry. Neal’s response on the other hand, is, he understands and validates Emma’s point of view.
That was a great post you found Slurpeez, and I agree with all of it.
There’s always been a long road for SF, because what is at stake isn’t just a flirtation, a dalliance, but true enduring love.

ParticipantSaved the episode for me, those two together.
Although Pan was ultra creepy with Wendy….and we were all worried how a kid could be a menacing villain….ha hhah.

ParticipantHook’s line is being hailed as romantic by the marketing staff and various fans who think “see, he’s not trying to use tricks .”We cheer like he’s done something great? That ought to be the base line behavior that you do not deceive someone if you care about them, but worse is how people gloss over his implication that Emma’s heart is just a prize to be won in some contest–and we know he loves a challenge. Instead of “I am trying be the man I once was so you can love me as the man I want to be” (now that would be an AWWW) or something we get Hook with the full court press of “when I win your heart, and I will win it (you have no choice in it)” and “Fun begins”. He might as well start singing Blurred Lines to her or something.
As I said, Emma isn’t encouraging him, just because she’s not discouraging him outright. That kind of thinking is ridiculous, and beyond that, she actually has discouraged him outright before, but now again saying her focus is Henry. That doesn’t mean she’s choosing Neal, but for Emma, why can’t she have the freedom to sort her life out a little while? I cheered that Neal seems to understand that, and is hopefully not going to rush her.
He does have to walk the line of course of making sure she knows he loves her and wants to be with her, a mistake he made before, but at the same time, making sure she doesn’t feel trapped or overwhelmed. This whole idea that the “right” man will be the one to breach her defenses, wear her down until she has no will but to say she’s in love just doesn’t sit right with me.I wanted Emma to be the decision maker, to be the pursuer. This should be about what SHE wants more, as the main lead character. Please don’t turn her into a girl that the bad guy “gets” because he plays nice for a little while, with no true redemption or remorse for his previous bad acts.If that’s where the writers are going with this, then I don’t know. I’ll still enjoy the other characters and stories but I didn’t really love Lacey the way the writers did for Belle. I’m not enjoying this development for Emma.“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?” -- Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass

This sums up the triangle for me. Emma has to cut through all the unresolved history with Neal, but Hook’s getting in her space, and it might cut him when Emma finally can unpack all her emotions and say what she really feels. Neal too.
It is a good point you make Phee that Hook has traded one obsession for another. I feel Hook will have to grow more before I get the feels to ship him with Tink at this point, but I think she might end up replacing BF.
It occurs to me also that Hook could have said “Thanks for not being mad” about many things, to avoid actually apologizing for those things like “Thanks for not being mad I stabbed your father.” “Thanks for not being mad I knew your fiance was playing you and didn’t tell you even though I then played up how we were friends to Emma in order to get closer to her.” or “Thanks for not being mad I helped a murderous witch come to the town where your son was, because I knew the witch wanted to gaslight his adopted mother into being evil again.” Ah…so many things he could have picked and we don’t even know some I’m sure, “Thanks for not being mad about the deals I’ve made with Pan.” Well we don’t know, I was hoping Hook played some role in freeing Bae but does not look so likely now.
I also agree the shifts in the character’s tones feels a bit sudden, almost like when we were playing that “story round” game last winter hiatus. Every pair of writers has slightly subtle takes but a bit too different for us over-analyzer types not to notice. I think the actors do their best to give continuity but there is only so much you can do.
