ParticipantIt’s a Terrible Life, Holiday Edition? They can do flashbacks to B&W world for an extra nod, to spoof the classic “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
PoM, yes, we had similar thoughts, though I was thinking if Neal and Emma stayed, Henry wouldn’t have been adopted at all but Regina would try to kidnap him like she did Owen.

ParticipantSo true Phee, she does! She definitely does not act like having magic is the coolest thing in the world that she has it. The day we were in chat and discovered color, we certainly acted that way. Yet we see Emma is remarkably restrained, almost reluctant about it. Neal’s concerns about magic wouldn’t upset Emma, as she has concerns too.
I was rewatching SSTR, and I realized something about Neal’s attitude about magic from his conversation with Tamara in the Cannery. When she says why she’s doing what she is, she says that he of all people should understand. Yet he doesn’t.
He doesn’t hate magic more than he loves people who have it, like Tamara does.He hates the evil that he’s seen, that comes from Dark Magic and I do think there has been a difference in the show between the two to some extent.

Participant@ RG–LOL, I had the same thought about Dave Matthews, but then it hit me He has done some acting, started off as an amateur theater actor.
In 2007, Matthews guest starred in House in the episode “Half-Wit”. J. Mo was on House…HappyEndings–I love that idea!

ParticipantGreat points, I think like Henry, Neal has an evolving relationship with magic.

ParticipantI agree, might be the triton, and have been thinking Ariel is a portal jumper…and this will lead into finding Ariel, or Ariel maybe trying to take the triton back before they can use it?
Parallel to the teaser of her stealing a fork….maybe she steals it from Mulan and Neal.

ParticipantThat’s more or less what I wrote about in the SF thread. I’ll copy the relevant bits over here. I prefaced this by saying I definitely understand why people didn’t interpret August’s “steer clear” as some sign of doom, but then I said, here’s what we know could have happened if Bae had been with Emma when she walked into town, shipping aside:
1) Her name triggered Gold’s memories of being Rumple the moment he heard it, no waiting for the curse to break
2)Regina rolled out the unwelcome mat for strangers, used Graham like a robot, and repaid a boy’s kindness with trying to kidnap him and kill his father.
3)It took Henry dying for Emma to break the curse with her TLK. She believed in the curse before that point and it wasn’t enough.
4) the prophecy that Gold had about a boy leading him to his son but being his undoing, and his vow to kill the boy before that happenedSo take your pick of terrible things–Gold turning the clock on Bae, letting Emma and Henry die at the hands of crazy Regina? The curse broke either way if Emma died, and with Bae there what reason did Gold have to care? Without Belle, without knowing she was alive, it could have been a shocking moment like mute maid and Milah all over again. I could see this alternate universe Rumple saying as he turns Bae to 14 and wipes his memory, “I know you love her and the boy but you won’t remember them in a minute and it will all be just like it was before”.
I also added that we can imagine things working out too, but now that Adam’s confirmed that terrible things would have happened, we don’t need to worry about the “what might have been” –this is just for those who could not even begin to imagine anything terrible happening.

ParticipantAwww, thanks RG 🙂
@ Slurpeez– I had no problem with August being the fallen hero, if it set up drama and conflict between Neal, August and Emma. What we got though, felt so rushed and contrived!

ParticipantI agree, RumplesGirl! Some of the issues people have with what Neal did of course isn’t motivated by some other ship, either, plenty of people just feel strongly that Emma’s pain and heartbreak shouldn’t be waived away. I think most of us who ship SF agree with that too.
Then I also don’t fault those who thought the worst too much, because the scenes did play out in a very subtle way. August says “steer clear”–he doesn’t say “DOOM SHALL BEFALL THY LOVE IF YOU DO NOT STAY AWAY” with thunder and lightening and ominous portents so everyone gets reminded –we’re talking about a magical curse. How in the Blue Fairy’s Jellyfish Dress are we supposed to know or think we know what would be required?I do understand that for some it was hard to imagine reasons that make sense for the “terrible things”. For me though, thinking up doomsday scenarios wasn’t that hard. In addition to what Phee said about “My boyfriend’s gone pscyho”…I thought about a few basic things we now know about what it might have been like if Neal wandered into town with Emma on her 28th birthday.
1) Her name triggered Gold’s memories of being Rumple the moment he heard it, no waiting for the curse to break
2)Regina rolled out the unwelcome mat for strangers, used Graham like a robot, and repaid a boy’s kindness with trying to kidnap him and kill his father.

Even if as a writer you imagine how they could have still overcome all this, and at least Emma wouldn’t have suffered for ten years, the more important thing is, what did Neal think might happen, and what, in retrospect, does Emma believe about why he did what he did.
Emma didn’t blame Gold for almost killing her and Mary Margret in order to prevent Cora from getting to town. She said she understood why he did it. She didn’t want to hug him and call him her new best friend either, but it seemed like she is the sort of person who realizes that sometimes life forces you into tough spots. She says to Snow that maybe that optimism of Good Always Wins skipped a generation, and I think in some ways, it did. Emma, if she put herself in Neal’s shoes in hindsight, would come to terms with what he did as necessary. Yet she would still struggle (as she does with her parents) to reconcile her mind with her heart’s pain. It’s a struggle though–not a forgone conclusion that she could never get over it.
Adam of course shortens all that on twitter–terrible things would have happened, she has not taken him back and there is more story to tell. As a SF shipper I like to add in “yet” after the taken him back bit, and think the story plays out that they do renew their love, after more adventures yet to come that show why they are good to and for each other.

ParticipantWe also have a large thread of “plotholes” most of which are unanswered questions, very few things that are logically inconsistent with the logic of the magic in the show.
