ParticipantI am excited to get an answer on a nonship thing too. Yay for remembering lots of fans CARE about the family relationships, and want to see development of Snow, Charming and Emma.

ParticipantI’ll always be a bit of a multi-shipper but I will be sad if Hookriel does not happen. I don’t feel it will much affect SF, though, as my interpretation of Hookriel really left all that out of the picture. It was just about a pirate and a mermaid and a crazy-only-on-OUAT-is-it-possible twist. So if it is only in OUAT fics, I still like it.
I’m more sad that apparently, though I’m in the boat, no one is saving any rum for me!

ParticipantThere is speculation everywhere. Hookriel has always been an outside crazy thing, so who knows. For me I liked the idea of pirate/mermaid and explorers, of tying Ariel into the main cast as was done for Belle rather than her being this season’s Aurora or Mulan or S1’s Cinderella.
Hookriel is not going to be the media guess, and if they hinted at it would kill the twist of it. People immediately jumped to the idea that Disney won’t mess with the story, even though A&E are not yet quoted as saying that. It is a little less likely than if they did not cast Eric or he were just a one-off but let’s just paddle along in the life raft.

ParticipantInteresting this is straight up recurring, but Ariel they played down as “at least 2 episodes”.
Hookriel does seem less likely unless they’re twisting it.
I’d also say that Papa Eric and Mama Ariel to Hook is less likely too.If they’re going to do their story on a bigger scale it would happen in the present I think.

ParticipantI am still thinking PP has the power of belief and imagination not just emotion. So he can imagine that Regina or Rumpel’s magic does not work, so it won’t no matter how angry they are, but it will not be as strong as Emma’s True Love for Henry and he won’t be able to stop her. That is where Hook, Charming and Snow come in as physical fighters too, if Regina and Rumpel are blocked. As for Neal, I think they cannot give away anything more but it would be seriously boring to see FTL as some kind of medical drama with MAP trying to cure an unconscious Neal for more than an episode.

ParticipantI am surprised as well. Maybe they just went with it since cat was out of the bag.

ParticipantThere are just so many things for them to fit in. I keep going back though to where they are driving the story. The whole arc is “save Henry” and part of that is Henry represents hope really, always has on this show. All the characters need to find their hope, their faith in themselves to be what they want.
Where does the Little Mermaid fit in that? She was caught between two worlds. She hoped for adventure and love. I think as she won’t come until the 6th episode in, she is pivotal in some way, mid-way through the mini-season. Could she be involved in reuniting Neal with the others? Finding a way for them to get to Henry (maybe helping them sneak through an underwater cave or something) or a way out of Neverland (a portal).
Whatever backstory they give her, in terms of the original or Disney TLM, the writers need to make her relevant in this battle in NL.

ParticipantI think Bae might have seen Rumpel doing something cruel. I feel like he wasn’t just mad about the abandonment–that he was actively avoiding him because he knew having his father in his life would be dangerous for anyone around him.

ParticipantI agree it it is magic and Rumple does not need to transform but could have magic gills, air tank or whatever. I don’t think it will be that way though since it adds nothing to the plot or character to show him diving in the water getting ink we knew he obtained. More drama in character to character interactions, like a deal or or something or if Regina does bargain/trick Ariel. The point is backstory for Ariel not the adventure of Rumple getting ink.

ParticipantYes, it is possible that Rumple used magic to get down to the depths or that he traded for the ink. He could have meant either.
The idea of Rumple being a fish reminds me of a fairy tale. There are different versions of the basic one, but the one I heard was a song of the Golden Fish of the Sea.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tale_of_the_Fisherman_and_the_Fish
A fisherman catches a golden fish. The fish says he will grant a wish and the fisherman at first has everything he needs (sounds like King Leo) so says no. His wife however tells him to go and get more, making him return several times to upgrade. Finally she asks to be the ruler of the sea, and the fish says he could never satisfy the greed and takes everything away again.
So what if Gold transformed himself, then realized the ink was so powerful it interfered with him transforming himself back, so he had to make a deal. So that’s how he knew squid ink would hold him.
I’d cracktheory some more there, but really it feels like they’ve got a lot to work in with Little Mermaid and Neverland mythology, plus GOAT and Hook backstory. I am not sure they’d mash in another complete folktale but an easter egg nod sometimes they do, like in Red’s story, her boyfriend is named Peter (Peter and the Wolf tale) or Rumple saying Cassanova was nothing before his deal.
