ParticipantRegina has not yet been another character has she? Her mother was two, but so far I don’t think she took over a specific role. I am ok with her being Ursula.
Though I have a new crack theory on Liam & Ursula.
I know we tossed the crack theory before that Ursula is the nickname for a giant magical squid, a krakken. So instead of Eric, I think Liam is Captain Ahab. Instead of hunting Moby Dick, he is after the Krakken.
Pulling from the wiki page:
Little information is provided about Ahab’s life prior to meeting Moby Dick, although it is known that he was orphaned at a young age.
The character is known for chasing revenge, sort of sounds kind of like Hook. He is also charismatic, as he gets the crew to follow his quest.
So like in Moby Dick, the Krakken attacks, destroys the ship, kills Ahab, leaving Hook stranded where he met up with pirates in FTL.
Now I think there is some relation between the Krakken and the Mermaids.
Hundreds of years later, Rumple does something to weaken the krakken to get its ink. Maybe that is how he gets the triton, and the Krakken no longer crosses worlds and the mermaids get corrupted and barbaric. Sometime later, Ariel, one of the last non-corrupted mermaids, makes a deal with Regina.

ParticipantI could see that too, he doesn’t know!

ParticipantSB is part of the premise of the show, and I think to lose it entirely for a bunch of fairytale characters off in fantasy worlds is tricky. FTL is a wasteland, and we may end up exploring other realms too, but I think there is more to tell in SB.
A lot of people thought SB would be destroyed last season, and I did not. Even if it did, I said, it would be used for flashbacks as there is something about that modern setting that makes production easier. I also think a lot of people like the clash of modern life with fairytales.
They lose that aspect a bit to base stories exclusively around another realm.

ParticipantI was thinking of it this way, once people meet Red, they don’t have quite the same attitude about were-wolves just being monsters. So if Hook had met Ariel, he wouldn’t dismiss all mermaids as monsters in the water, which is how his line came off. Then again, Red was a pretty notable exception (and I guess Granny too).
I really do see Ariel taking Red’s place in a lot of ways, in terms of whatever story they originally may have planned for Red (other than with Whale….). In terms of her relationship to the others, as a “friend” and as a misunderstood creature of magic, just to clarify this.

ParticipantA new spin on Tinker-momma, as irresponsible teen mom to PP? interesting.

ParticipantI don’t know if traditionally all captains have the same name. It was a Princess Bride thing that Dread Piate Roberts was handed down.
I don’t think Hook personally hates mermaids, but he has heard or experienced them as creatures to be wary of, just like people were afraid and hated werewolves. Now that I think about it, if Hook has met Ariel before he does not know she is a mermaid.“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. ParticipantI don’t think I like Hookriel if Eric adopted Hook and Ariel was with Eric.
I’m going to go back to the key clue, and think Hook and Eric met, but it wasn’t father/son, but Hook setting him up to be betrayed. Then Hook falls off the ship in the fight and gets saved by Ariel, except he doesn’t see her, but wakes up in a strange land. He gets rescued by pirates.
I don’t think Hook is from FTL originally. I think Ariel may be a portal jumper and she brought him there. She herself of course is either from NL, or she gets stuck there during the curse.

ParticipantI think the Tink = Mal does seem unlikely. I’d forgotten the Watcher mentioning that one before, but I feel like somehow Tink is not actively around as it seems like she may only be in one or two episodes total. I”m not sure why I have that feeling.
So somehow, I”m convinced Tink is no longer active–maybe lack of belief, effect of curse?

ParticipantSo maybe there’s quite the twist to her story then?

ParticipantWhat if Tink used to be in NL, but became Malificient when she fell in love with PP and lost her wings? Hook seemed to know her. She was an “old friend” of Regina, that connected to guarding the plot device..oh sorry, fail-safe. What if she came to FTL at some point in the past, like when Rumple went to NL before?
Funny fact but a tinkerbell float replaced the blue fairy float in Disney’s electric parade in the Magic Kingdom park.
