So there is going to be a Prince Eric…so not sure how it would work, unless Ariel loses him.

Ariel is in her 30’s, so they should cast someone similar to that. Well there is the Andersen unrequited angle or maybe they will just do it like Aurora/Phillip or Cindy/Thomas. Side characters with ho-hum twists that don’t change their story much.

Colin doesn’t have the traditional Disney Hook look of curly black hair, red coat, hat, mustache and beady black eyes, but he’s not that far off either. It’s not like he looks like Charming, Anton or Lancelot. He has dark hair, stubble, and kind of thick eyebrows, and a strong jaw. Also if you compare the Evil Queen to Disney’s or the Queen of Hearts, well obviously they are making everyone much younger and hotter.

I don’t consider it a casting rumor until some of the crew/cast/writers say it or we see twitters or something showing they’ve talked to the person. Otherwise, it is just a fan wish. Like, let me start a fan wish right now that they get David Tennant (Dr. who) or Henry Ian Cusik (Desmond from Lost) to play some relative of Rumpel’s because they are Scottish. If that gets turned into a rumor that reaches the producers ears and inspires something, it is worth it :P.

In any case, the dark hair might be needed if the storyline is “frame job” since part of that might be that the two looked alike and were the same age. So this “Liam” frames Hook for something, and Hook has to take up with pirates to survive?
As I said, I’m not a fan of Hook being yet another orphan/abandoned kid. I’d rather his issues stemmed from being sort of privileged and spoiled (like the original Captain Hook went to an upper class boarding school) but then forced to survive by his wits. Maybe Liam, the orphan, is the one who frames a more innocent, entitled Hook who never sees it coming. That starts off Hook’s resentment towards those he considers beneath him (the way he acts when bumping into what he thinks is just a beggar, his arrogance about Hopper’s looks or Rumpel’s height). It fits with his insistence on being a gentleman and having a code, the formality of getting his respect as the captain and his attitude toward the various royalty he meets (that he acts like he is equal to Regina, Snow and Cora, not much deference like Johanna the maid in his manner.)

But it will probably be his dad, played by Tom Welling, who will be Eric and we’ll be sobbing for Hook, just like we did for Regina and Rumple.

So I was thinking about what they might do to create a unique spin on Ariel, and I recalled Shakespeare’s The Tempest has a fairy named that.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ariel_%28The_Tempest%29

What is interesting here is it is on an island. Rumple could be a mix of Caliban and Prospiro. There is some references to colonization, could tie into the comment about jungle & heart of darkness at D23.

I don’t think they’d actually take the storyline of the play, but you never know. It is a classic tale and they did throw in a reference to another Shakespeare play in GMSB.

The episode they introduced Hook was the Crocodile. Maybe Ariel’s will be titled with Squid or eels (flotsam and jetsam) in some way.

I think it makes more sense, rather than hiring a child actor. They stretched Jen, MJR and Lana to play teens, so no reason they can’t with Colin. The only thing that throws me is the “dark hair” they wanted on Liam so specifically. Unless he is Eric, and that was why rather than making him look related to Hook.

So what if: Eric gets thrown overboard in a mutiny, and a young Hook is framed for it, and has to escape to join pirates. Hook’s story that he told Bae is based on Eric’s story. Eric is saved by Ariel.
Of course Eric should not still be alive centuries later, unless she can world hop and took him to NL.

So the key guesses so far:

    1) It’s a clue that Rumpel’s dagger is in MM apartment.
I doubt Rumpel would leave his dagger behind if going on a suicide mission, he would need all his powers. He had to use the dagger to call the wraith.

    2) It’s a skeleton key and Hook is a pirate who used to have a magic key that Regina stole
Seems convoluted. Hook more likely has pickpocket skills.

It’s a symbolic reference to a storyline about someone being framed
Maybe that’s how Hook became a pirate, he was framed for something he didn’t do and had to run away to be a pirate.

it’s just random because the other keys had skulls and Hook is a pirate and Adam is messing with us
    Most likely this!

That would be neat and it still woks to an extent–if Ariel’s mother died, we would meet the rest of her existing family first, then Maybe Adam did think of Alyssa and they have unofficial chatter about her maybe guest starring at some point, but it won’t work out fast enough for 3×04, but the thought came up in the writing. Like the mother dying was the reason the rest became cursed.
