Hm, some big mythological payoff for who Charming’s daddy is, could be really interesting.

After all, it does kind of make sense that there was something special about James and David to attract the Dark One to deal with them, as opposed to all the other poor farmer peasants out there, when trying to get a son for a king. Besides, “true love” between the parents of course.

He is complex, and in that moment he was depressed. Beyond depressed, really, I took it as a man who has lost his will to care about anything in that moment. He realizes how far he has lost himself to his darkness as he was about to kill his own grandson, and now Bae is dead. He just sort of says I deserve to die–but he is still dark and selfish in that he does not care about others. He then realizes he needs Belle, to give him hope for he has lost all of his. He wakes her, and before they really have a chance to rally on their own they realize the town is not blowing up. Rumpel has hope again. He then sacrifices being with Belle more for her sake, to keep her safe than for the good of the town. If he knows she is alright in SB he thinks he will better be able to do what he needs to do.

I want to add one other thing, since I hadn’t seen Price’s post before I posted mine. What would Hook do if Emma seems sad? Nothing. If he ends up being written as her friend, then he will not be written as moping on the sidelines any more than Whale was written to have any lingering affection for MM or David for Katherine. Writers only play that kind of scenario out if they want to keep the triangle going (and going, and going, like How I Met Your Mother…or friends). Depends on what they want to do with the story, but at this point, they have not shown enough affection/attraction between them to lock them into anything.

I agree–Hook has to have some character growth, as does Neal, and Emma.

I don’t see Emma feeling comfortable getting physically close to Hook until they have at least found Henry and aren’t all trapped together with her parents, Neal’s father & Regina. I kind of suspect that Emma will know Neal is alive long before they find him. Henry will tell Emma that Neal is alive (because of the nightmare room), and there will be a struggle on her part to believe Henry. That’s where we will see the conflict in Hook. He’ll have to choose between helping Emma to find Neal, despite having this attraction to her. It will sort of put him in the reverse of his position with Milah. Instead of a woman begging him to take her away from her son’s father, she will beg him to take her to him.

The show already started Bae off in a sad, angsty, angry state. Neal would have no character growth if he acts like he did at 14 when he tried to attack Hook. Neal is not that confrontational–rather the opposite. Neal is not shown ever asking where is that rat August or yelling at Emma about the Evil Queen having adopted his son (not that he should, but I saw fans speculating he would be a jerk to Emma about it, but he was not portrayed as blaming Emma in the least for the EQ). He makes one wry comment about the stolen money. He does not want to talk to Rumpel because he is angry (though he is willing to confront Rumpel to protect someone else, like Emma or Dr. Whale). He asks Emma if tying up Hook is a problem–but given how they parted, that’s far more concern than 14 year old Bae had toward Hook. He gets angry, sure, but he’s not some hot head who thinks with his fists.

He wouldn’t be happy to see Hook having a thing for Emma, but I don’t think we’re getting a full-on triangle. For one thing, when asked about Emma/Neal/Hook triangle, A&E said “maybe a rhombus”. So I’m not sure of anything as we don’t have all the puzzle pieces, and we are not meant to be sure at this point in the story. Yet I definitely agree with Phee and RG that Hook has grown, and it is about more than choosing romantic love over vengeance, but in his ability to care about others besides himself.

If we only ever saw Emma and Hook’s perspectives on things, I might feel differently, but because we see scenes from Neal’s point of view also, I don’t think he is going to be written as sulking in the corner while Emma and Hook give a new meaning to “Jolly” Roger. That is not very fairytale.

I think the reunion will start–with smiles. He’ll have that sort of cocky smirk (Hey, I’m not dead) and she’ll have that angsty but genuine bittersweet smile (I thought you were). They’ll hug, but I’m not sure about TLK just yet. There’s still a lot to work out between them, for him to really earn her trust back.

She understands what he did, but as with her parents, it can take time for the emotions to catch up. They both want love and a home, but things are so complicated for them with all these other people in their life. It is no longer just the two of them against the world.

I heard this quote the other day, that drama is anticipation mingled with uncertainty. The writers have set up anticipation that Neal and Emma still loved each other, with everything from the keychain, the bug, the dreamcatcher, and the perceptions of everyone around them (August, Gold, Henry, Snow, even Tamara). Then, they made Emma certain that Neal is dead, & put her on a boat, emotionally vulnerable, with the very handsome Hook. Then they show the audience Neal is not dead, that he’s somewhere with characters we met before. They want us to anticipate the reunion, but have doubt at the same time.

    The signs one is hillarious.

My headcannon is that Rumpel is powerful, but he can be fooled, and is a bit of a pessimist, and there are things he doesn’t know. Regina hid Belle from him afterall.
He didn’t even question Nealfire’s death. Snow says he’s been shot, and Rumpel doesn’t even say “how badly?”. He just was ready to assume the worst.

So I think Rumpel kind of only made a token effort to find another way because deep down, he always knew he would have to get someone to do the curse. Besides that, I think Giantland was maybe hidden from him/his seer powers. Cora after all couldn’t just whip up new cuffs, after Hook stole hers, she had to wait for him at the bottom! So whatever went into the cuffs was special enough that she couldn’t make more. Similarly with the WR, perhaps Rumpel could not compel that type of magical creature to aid him, and if he couldn’t make a deal, well, the WR wouldn’t help him if had another master to serve.

It’s so nice to be talking about someone else’s reproductive habits besides my own. It seems if you are a female over 25 years of age and haven’t given birth then it’s game on for anybody and everybody to discuss your reproductive health. 😉

😆 Hm, now I feel a bit bad to speculate about Ginny and Lana and Emilie, since many shows really do write around real life pregnancies fairly easily without in the least really altering plot lines. I do think if done right, another baby could be integrated into the show in a way that helps some characters grow without limiting those characters too much. Depends on how it is done I suppose.

I think the undoing refers to the Dark One’s curse too, as it would be more interesting to find out about previous Dark Ones and where that came from in the first place, than it would for Rumpel to die (and for the show to lose a powerhouse actor like RC).

Without the Dark One powers, Rumpel would have to struggle with his fears that he is a coward and weak. This sets him up for a journey to realize he does have strength (after all, he IS full of love and love is strength!). He would still have a lot of knowledge to help Regina and Emma do magical things to help the group.

I love the idea of Regina and Rumpel bickering about how to tutor Emma in magic! Perhaps though she’ll have to also seek advice from someone who isn’t “dark” so that could lead to a quest to a place like Oz maybe, to see Glinda? I really want to start seeing set-up for Oz to come into play (I know, I’m greedy, we haven’t even seen NL really yet and I’m already thinking of Oz!).

As for the beans–they said there are no more beans, but they didn’t say they couldn’t *grow* more from the plant/cutting like they did before. They’ve told us there were no more beans in the story before right, when BF said that to Bae…..and we found out that meant no more grown beans 😆

FEELS! Wonder how quickly he’s gonna regain consciousness? Maybe he’s wearing it, and Aurora and Mulan see it before he comes to and are all, “That’s what Emma was wearing!” and they get all suspicious about who he is.

I really want the necklace to make a reappearance–that would be neat if the others connect him to Emma because of the pendant!

The bottomline is: between Neal and Hook, Henry’d much rather that Emma ended up with his dad, but would be acceptive of Hook if that’s who Emma really wants to be. However, like I said, I see the end of the series better reflecting Henry’s happy ending than Emma’s, Regina’s, Hook’s or whoever else’s and to Henry an ending with Neal and Emma as a couple parenting him together is happier than the two of them being friends who co-parent.

I see what you mean now–and I suppose as a target for defining end game happiness, Henry ‘s pov is probably closest to what the audience feels too, as we also care about all the characters.

(Sidenote: I’d love for Snowing to have another kid by show’s end, so let’s throw an infant aunt/uncle for Henry into the mix too while we’re at it.)

I kind of wonder given Lana Parilla getting married, and how close Josh/Ginny are, whether it’s possible that either actress might in real life get pregnant over the run of this show, and then the writers might have to write it in or do the whole “hide the bump” thing. I think it would be interesting either way for Henry to end up with a sibling/aunt/uncle/relation (and I think Ginny has pitched the idea to the writers).
