There have been so many shows/books/movies that use this idea of alternate timelines, or parallel worlds etc, and not all of them use a puppet master to explain why things stay roughly the same in the multiple versions–it’s just sort of chalked up to fate, destiny or just not really discussed. The main thing is, if it is too different, it ceases to be an interesting contrast anyway, so why not just write a whole new story?

I should have been more clear that by no Hook, I meant he would have just been Killian Jones, pirate, and there would have to be something other than the bean to make Rumpel willing to deal and cut off only his hand rather than kill him outright. Once you say “What if” you are rewriting and you can rewrite whatever you want. You could still make some things happen the same, but for other things you might need new motivation for the characters to force the plot down roughly the same track and still have it make sense. You can do it though if you want–some stories even acknowledge that fate has a way of “course correcting”.

If Bae had stayed, I think events would be so different that you could imagine whatever you want because there’s no logical path to follow without unraveling the whole thing.

Without a Rumpel wanting to deal, why would a miller’s daughter like Cora have married Henry Sr? She’d have made her boast and ended up dead in the tower. Xavier then marries Henry to Eva–so no Regina, and no Snow either. Meanwhile, David and James grow up with Ruth at the farm and the whole story just doesn’t happen. It’s even hard to say if Rumpel would have killed Milah–so maybe no Hook either.

That was cute. I like how the cast gets along so well too.

It’s not like it was a suitcase. Just a small bag, like a purse–not sure if MM usually was shown carrying one, I know Emma typically is not shown with one (so she must have pockets!).

They had the bags because the ORIGINAL plan was to use the bean to escape to FTL and leave Regina to die. Snow had second thoughts at the diner, and then told Emma to “take the hard path” and throw the fail-safe through the portal instead.

Rumpel probably had more raw power than Cora, but power isn’t everything. She was willing to play more dirty and manipulative than he was, since she didn’t have a heart–and he still did. Plus I do think she learned some things in Wonderland and elsewhere like Price of Magic says, and I think as they say, knowledge is power too.

I’d heard the rumors of rumors about Bailey not getting along–but he did also have another show that ended up falling through. Short of Charlie Sheen level antics, I doubt anyone is ever going to go on the record to say what happened, so rumors are all there will be.
I know when the podcast folks here interviewed Anders who plays Whale he mentioned interviewing for pilot season, so I think it was one of those things for non-main characters where they were free by contract to look around, and then the writers had to scramble if one of them jumped to a different project, which Bailey seemed like he was going to do. They have a large cast, and that can be tricky for some of the actors who understandably want a larger role, even if they love the show/crew/cast. So maybe it wasn’t “no love lost” but more opportunities not aligning, and with that having changed, maybe they could use Bailey in some more flashbacks.

They were really trying to push plot the back half of the season to line up the trip to NL. That resulted in somewhat sketchy scenes where you have to really wonder what was going through characters heads. Like Regina, at the well when Henry was going to blow it up, thinking “Hm, Gold’s son sure is nosy. And awfully concerned about Henry….what’s HIS deal?”. We know she didn’t know he was Henry’s father yet, so that’s a little “pothole” for you, what DID she think? Maybe they’d answer that one on twitter one day.

I think we’ll have a scene of them on the boat, maybe something to imply they’ve been on it awhile scouting, but I don’t know if we’ll get them “trapped on a boat” for very long–they like to have different settings/scenes, and more space for action. It’s true though to us fans it will seem like months.

Cora, Mulan, and Aurora all go by their personal names because no one, in addition to Emma, really calls them by their fairytale names. (Although, Mulan and Cora don’t seem to have an official fairytale name. They simply go by their names).

I agree, Jasmine! Everyone either had a curse name, which Emma got used to using or like Cora, introduced herself as such without Emma knowing of her other identities. I don’t think Emma or Snow knew of those other identities, only Jefferson, Regina and Hook did (probably Rumpel). I know I’m inconsistent with the names and I feel like the writers are too. If there’s a good pattern for why/when Snow and Charming say that versus MM and David, I haven’t really seen it.

So I think we ought to learn more about his name, and it could be a sign of something if Emma stops calling him Hook, but even if she doesn’t, it’s just you get used to a name sometimes.

    * Snowing & CaptainSwan have both had to run from Anton

This is one of my favorite parallels. I also like how Anton hugged Emma (just a sidenote). I wanted more interactions with Anton and Emma. They are cute together!

Yes they are, Grumpy is to Snow as Anton could be to Emma. Trouble is, we did’nt get enough of Tiny. I’m not sure if the actor had that much availability or the writers couldn’t fit more into the scenes, but so much missing story! Given that Anton and Hook spent 10 hours together before he released Hook, and Hook had the dried bean, I’m curious how that happened. Then of course, the shrinking of Anton by Cora. We didn’t get to see Hook and Anton interact in SB since Hook ran when everyone was distracted. They can’t show everything, but they could maybe do a flashback at some point.

I do like how the writers keep Emma as a strong warrior princess.

Yes, she’s no damsel in distress. She and Hook worked like partners at the top of the beanstalk, and that’s the right vibe for her, the two saving each other.

Also, I meant, that within the Land Without Magic it has been established that a magical item (a ship, a scarf) retained their magical properties even though not inside the “magic” bubble of Storybrooke, and that random magical items (the ring, the hat, the apple) worked inside SB before Rumpel’s spell to bring back the ability to create new magic inside SB. So Pino was sort of like a magical item.
