ParticipantThanks for the link Sarah. I found it funny to read about the Love Boat aspect, but Colin did phrase things as whatever Hook might start with Regina would sort of be secondary to “waiting” for Emma.

ParticipantGreat points, Phee & Mysterykat. I do find it amusing sometimes to think about the funny little things though. They are “potholes” bumps in our road, not “plot holes” to be annoyed over or destroy the fabric of the story 😛

I resent someone implying there is bashing or propaganda going on, when there hasn’t been. That kind of rubbish already goes on enough in general threads against our ship 🙁 This is supposed to be a safe place to ship CS, along with everything else that goes along with shipping CS without worrying about that kind of rubbish.
Suraya, given your stated confusion about the meaning of a previous post of mine, are you implying that I implied there is bashing? I don’t think anyone did that, and my statements were the closest there was. Here is what I actually said:

I feel this thread is getting bogged down with almost propaganda style reasoning about what makes SF bad, rather than what everyone likes and hopes for in a CS pairing. I half expect to see a poster like “Neal: Wrong about Tamara. Wrong for Emma.” straight out of a manipulative political add tactic.
Notice, I’m talking about the reasoning people are using, and did not equate that to being rude and bashing or insults at the viewer-to-viewer level. Propaganda simply means statements designed to influence the attitude of the community toward some cause or position by presenting only one side of an argument. That is not equivalent to “bashing”. I used the word poster in that post to refer to a graphic I think, that someone linked, not the person who posted. That could have been confusing I suppose. Many statements on a shipping thread ARE one-sided, so yes, there is propaganda in that sense. I never said there has to be equal time, but, I did say that for me, the heavily one-sided posts, are not as inspiring, though I did compliment your parallel lists and something else I forget about how that was the sort of thing that moves me to like CS. I suppose I don’t mind one-sided if it is positive stuff. Others responded to say they need to say negative things about characters (but never the viewers with opinions) sometimes to explain what they like about CS/Hook/Emma, and I agreed that’s fair enough. If you were referring to my posts, then you are bringing the topic back up in a very negative way, and reading into what I said in a very negative way as well–but I do not resent you for it. I am just too weary to continue discussing/explaining further, when my main point was that I wanted to see more fun, positive posts. You may feel like you need this space to rant and vent and that is fine–I’m only one person expressing the opinion of what I like reading.

ParticipantI agree AllthatGlitters. Of course it is a show centered around hope so Emma is capable of forgiveness & believes in second chances. She is never going to be an open, heart on her sleeve type, but she is certainly less walled off and alone than she was when the series started. She will be cautious, but I think she already spent a long time waiting for Neal, so she is not going to need as long to process his “death”, but I think she does need to have Henry back, and ok first because that’s a lot of worry on her mind.

ParticipantSuraya, no that is not it. I feel like I’ve already explained it, and I think others got what I meant based on their replies.

ParticipantSchmacky, your placement of visuals with the actual dialog from the show was really nice, well timed and fit so well.

Exactly, which was part of the point- given this is a shipping thread, hard line statements will be made against opposing ships. so if Neal is your favorite character, you are gonna have to be prepared to see & hear him cast in a not so favorable/positive light with regards to Emma, while in a CS thread- it’s just the nature of shipping threads- it’s no different than SF, Rumbelle, FrankenWolf etc threads (I’m sure people wouldn’t dream of going into a Rumbelle thread & complain about the lack of positive posts for the Cora/Rumple paring if she was their fav, nor a SF thread & expect to see people rallying for Hook’s POV with favorable CS posts if he was their fav etc).
As I said before, there is a distinct difference between bashing the actual character & not having a favorable opinion on a certain character pairing with another. That is NOT what I was talking about. I never said there have to be equal positive threads or posts about the characters/ships or anything like that. Negativity breeds negativity. It quickly snowballs and gets out of hand.

ParticipantThat could be too–of course, starts/ends are tricky with flashbacks and forwards and such so even if the characters do not travel through time, we the viewers always do in that sense.

ParticipantHook is another example of how great a job they did with the casting on this show.

ParticipantGreat points Phee and RumplesGirl!
I felt like Emma was already well underway with that healing process this season, but then she suffered two gut punches in a row, losing Neal and Henry in the same day. She has Snowing to help her, but she’s always going to be a bit cynical and guarded. She is vulnerable now, and Hook is sure to notice that.
I think it is unclear what motivated Hook–it could have been a combination of various things. I feel like the scene shown right before his decision to return is the flashback and the scratch marks, so the largest reason is probably guilt over abandoning Bae. I think Hook was watching very closely when Regina talked to Henry and revealed her plan to sacrifice herself for him. He did also seem affected by Emma’s words in the diner (though they alone didn’t convince him immediately), and it did seem like he addressed himself to Emma when offering his services to find Henry (rather than to all of them generally) and saying in response to her saying he didn’t care about anyone but himself, that he just needed a reminder that he could. Hook has been rethinking his life goals, ever since he saw Rumpel and Lacey stumbling together in drunk evil love, so how it all plays out will be interesting.
I do kind of feel bad for Neal if he comes back to find the love of his life has taken up with the same man that his mother chose over staying with him. He’s had a hard life, and I think faced a lot of hard choices. He hasn’t been a saint of course, and he did hurt Emma as deeply as his father hurt him (though he had much less choice/better reasons to do so). So I thought her being able to forgive him might in some way help Neal be able to do the same with Rumpel. Yet if he comes back and finds Hook and Rumpel in a kind of friendship, with Hook in a relationship with Emma–I could see that generating some unpleasantness. As Phee said, I wouldn’t blame Emma–she waited a third of her life for Neal and having thought she lost him, she could very well start thinking life is too short to waste alone. More or less, really what led Neal to Tamara, as the old song goes–if you can’t be with the one you love, then love the one you’re with.
I think Neal being in FTL may teach Neal to appreciate where he’s from more than he currently does. Yes, it is a barren wasteland, and I like the idea that he ends up solving the Ogre Wars problem in some way. Emma does have magic, and I can’t see her ever wanting to live in Tallahassee now with having ties to Henry and Snowing, and of course, even though she doesn’t really like it, to Regina. Emma definitely showed that she understood Henry considers Regina every bit as important a parent as Neal. So I don’t see Emma being comfortable with trying to live somewhere that would separate her family unit. Neal didn’t seem in that much of a hurry to leave SB though, so there’s that at least. FTL isn’t exactly nicer than when he left, so I hope his issues with magic don’t get worse.
