    That is an excellent question.
    Skin Deep–Ashley says

. And Sean’s been working double shifts at the cannery.

Maybe everyone quit once they had their memories back? “Forget this, I’m not smelling like fish. Let’s just eat some overpraised Lasagne over at Granny’s.” Maybe that’s why BF is so useless….she’s too busy providing necessities for everyone that the curse doesn’t supply anymore. 😆

    106. Even if you are a villain frantically trying to cover your trail, please remember to reduce, reuse & recycle. Magic may make everything grow on trees, but it comes with a price!

I think they know people are very interested in how baby Henry came to SB, so I’m sure we will see that story. It is likely it could be linked to the HO, as the timing of the story falling in season 3 would then make sense, just as not seeing week 1 of the curse didn’t make sense until they showed the “outsider”.

It is fun to go back to season 1 episodes and see all the little things they either foreshadowed (or cleverly ran with in writing new episodes).

I definitely agree that characters start off as flawed so they can have room to grow. Yet those flaws, and the writers choice to have Emma believe Neal is dead (rather than having the hope he is still alive and refusing to believe it), also opens a door for the audience to root for Emma to fall for someone else, like Hook, who has just grown a little (I”m suddenly thinking of the grinch…his heart grew two sizes!).

Neal’s damaged state plays into the Love Cannot Overcome Trope. I agree that Neal is just starting a hero’s journey, and that Emma is continuing on hers, so I don’t see the outcome as already decided between them one way or the other. They could do the noble step-aside thing or he could be turned into a romantic false lead or maybe that is Hook’s role. Without more development though, the sudden declaration smacks of Strangled by the Red String of Fate trope. The falling through the portal thing saved the hurried “I love you” from being that, but I am still waiting for what comes next in the story.

I’m still leaning to thinking Neal will eventually grow and overcome his damaged past, and be given the chance to prove his worth so to speak. I could also see the writers ending things with a happy ending for Neal that focuses more on his filial love for Henry than romantic love for Emma. I just don’t think the portal scene, as touching as it was, had enough build up for the kind of “ok, these two are meant to be” conclusion that some draw, and I think that was on purpose. There are lots of things the writers could have done to provide more development and they chose not to do it. They’re probably well aware of those tropes, as this isn’t their first rodeo, and some of them have written quite epic love triangles before. I’d prefer they continue to subvert the trope stuff, like they did with Tamara (hah, talk about a romantic false lead!) and use it in a way that leads a romantic viewer down a garden path only to pull the rug out from under us (oh, he loves her, he’s doing it to help her….oh wait….he’s Bluebeard.). Not that I want Neal to be revealed to be a big bad, because I’m sappy. I just think in terms of storytelling over all, that these writers love to have twists. I’m waiting for what the twist is here, but I am hoping for a happy sappy ending too.

Sometimes we see chemistry where it isn’t intended (like some people say they saw between Ruby -Charming or Charming-Emma!) and sometimes we don’t see it where it is intended(like with Thomas and Ella) . There’s always the possibility that someone is picking up on a clue hidden between the lines and the directing. There’s also the chance that a clue is a red herring, or that things changed and the writers shifted direction due to real life events, like actor schedule conflicts. I saw potential with August, Jefferson and Graham–but those doors seem mostly shut now so I don’t dwell on what might have been.
I do see chemistry between Hook and Emma, but I slightly prefer the overall story with Neal.

I have been invested in Bae -Neal since season 1. I see a connection between him and Emma that is not just about staying together for Henry’s sake or just about being the type of person who has learned to look out for number one through the hard knocks of life. What Emma and Neal both want the most is to be part of a family, and to be a good parent as that is something they didn’t get to have growing up. Emma can forgive her parents more easily as she now knows they were forced into a hard choice by the curse (and that applies to most of what Neal did too…more on that in a moment.) Neal’s parents chose selfishly, his mother “true love” with Killian, and his father the Dark One’s power.

I do feel the portal scene came up a bit quick in the storytelling, as Neal’s story also involves more than his sacrifice to let Emma be the savior, but also his guilt about that choice, and his relationship with Tamara. I still wonder if there is more to Neal and Tamara (like she used something other than “feminine wiles” to manipulate him, something all magic-sciency like her taser), but for now, I took his willingness to be with Tamara as proof of his hopelessness of a future with Emma. Of course, from a storytelling perspective, I wonder if that is a sign that his love was not true enough to have faith in Emma? Rumple kicked Belle out of the castle, and that after a partially effective TLK. Snow is willing to drink a potion to forget Charming and he is ready to marry Abigail unless he gets a sign from Snow.
In What Happened to Frederick charming says–

Prince Charming: Well, I’m afraid I’m not able to help you, then. My ‘love’ told me in no uncertain terms that she does not feel for me as I do for her. You can’t fight for something that doesn’t exist. So, there’s my tragedy.

Charming then undergoes the task of fighting the Siren, realizes that since he was able to resist, that maybe his love is true and not one-sided and decides to fight for Snow. I would have preferred seeing Neal realize that his love for Tamara was just an illusion without the obvious proof that she’s holding a gun to his face. I would have liked the confessions and the portal better if he had called Tamara on her falseness out on the beach, despite her plausible explanation to be there. Then she could have run into the cannery, and THEN the portal thing could have happened as it did.

So it was a lot of emotion to put on the actors to sell in those few scenes and I can’t tell if the writers intended to imply we should doubt the depth of the love or if they just made the characters suffer for plot points & pacing. It’s clear Emma and Neal had off-screen conversations (like about August), but I do think the writers right now seem to be playing up the tragedy of their relationship more than the romance of it. I’m not sure why they are doing that exactly–to stretch it out over the show, or to hint that there’s another relationship down the line for Emma? I could see it go either way or as Price of Magic put it, for those who do get those references, are they Ross& Rachel’ing them, or are they going to Spuffy Emma with Hook.

Season 3 should start to make that direction clearer–but it may be the kind of thing the writers don’t even decide until they realize what season is the last.

The curse was created for Bae but now it is for Henry strange but lets look at the facts:

    1) Rumble is afraid of this PP or perhaps someone else
    2) Bae isn’t PP
    3) Felix isn’t PP
    4) We know it is a male
    5) The home office is only 1 person
    6) Emma didn’t take the FL book with her on the trip so it is no one in FL
    7) Writers stated that we never met him before
    8) Hook is afraid of PP
    9) He is looking for Henry who is a boy

So what else do we know ❓

Do we know all of that?
    1) Rumple is concerned about going to NL like he was about Cora coming to SB the time he tried to put a spell on the well with Regina. Even if he might have more power than someone, he knows that those he cares for can be hurt and he is always aware magic has a price. So I wonder if he is really afraid of PP, or just afraid of the prophecy + PP +NL + price of magic, and that he wouldn’t be able to come back to Belle?

2-4 +7 + 9)Doesn’t look likely PP is anyone we have met if they are actually casting an actor for it and don’t want to reveal more. This could be because they are casting someone much older than we’d expect for PP–maybe someone who could be made to look ancient? Or even someone who won’t show at all, like casting a voice for a CGI figure.

5)We don’t know anything about the H.O. and apparently, neither did GOAT.

6)Who knows if Rumple magic’d the book (like the globe) and other stuff before they left. They were visited by Belle, all blue’d up, so they can have any plot device stuff they need to have if it becomes important. We didn’t see them get supplies, doesn’t mean they didn’t get them.

8)It’s likely Hook encountered PP when in NL. I don’t know how afraid he is–like with Cora again, he might know PP is dangerous and to be avoided, but with luck and cunning, could be survived.

Here’s some other things we might know–but might be just assuming
    9) You don’t grow old in NL
    10) There are fairies and mermaids there
    11) There is an island and an ocean
    12) The Lost Ones are still there, working for PP
    13) Rumple wrote the curse–or did he? Maybe the curse is something Rumple found and twisted to his own ends, but it came from PP, for his own ends.

Do we think Rumple took the dagger? I’m going to assume he did, as he is paranoid about that thing.

Well it would make sense to bring him back in a big way–like midseason finale or opener–long as it fits the storyline.

I need to rewatch the scene with GOAT taking Henry. Their mission changed they imply yet Greg ran into Henry fairly early on in his recovery. Did he just not have the link to the HO that Tamara did?
