ParticipantI like it, but one thought to throw at you– but Henry is got to be having nightmares out in NL. Couldn’t he also contact Aurora?

6) How did Hook find Gold in NY ❓ (Note: I was right Neal didn’t know how to dock the ship because he didn’t know how only that little bit of how to drive the ship) 😛
I agree it is a plot hole, because what we saw Bae learn would not have been enough to know how to SAIL the boat out of NY to Maine anyway. All he learned was which side of the ship was which, and how to steer. There was nothing about the trimming of sails, tacking etc., steering along the waves just like there was nothing about docking. I’ve sailed 24 ft boats with just one main sail before and I have no idea how to manage a tall pirate ship like that by myself. So maybe the JR is enchanted so its more like a car (makes sense if it moves so fast in all the realms) but then parking wouldn’t be something you didn’t know how to do (maybe not as practiced with so you’d skip it), but it is curious how Hook needs a crew at all if he can manage to sail it all by himself let alone well enough to dock it smoothly. However that boat works, it is not a normal ship. So I’m not really sure what the writers were thinking about the use of a row boat rather than it pulling up at dock, but obviously it is Hook’s ship and he’ll be more comfortable using it than anyone else.

ParticipantYes, they are speaking as fans, but fans who definitely see the perspective of their characters–which is why I am interested if Lana has ever expressed a thought on it since her character is Emma’s adversary and probably would have a different view than the actress as a fan might. I can imagine Regina thinking–well if it is Neal that is one less person to worry about cutting into my time with Henry. I think she’d reluctantly ship it ! 😆

ParticipantIt’s funny because you would think their characters would have that opinion as well. I wonder what Lana, Josh, Colin, and RC think–does it follow their character or not? I know J.Mo has to be careful of what she says and is more in the know about Emma’s perspective. I have not seen a lot of interviews with J.Mo. yet since the finale and that big reveal. There was this one Wetpaint J. Mo. Interview
Emma told Neal that she loved him! Did she say that from a very real place, or was she caught up in the moment?
I think when you’re in a situation like that, the truth comes out. You can overthink and rethink things in life when you have time to, when the stakes aren’t that high, but when you’re really faced with a true life or death situation, I think that’s when the truth comes out.
What we love about the show is that it’s a family drama mixed with fairy tale mythology. So there’s this idea of True Love on Once Upon a Time. Who do you think Emma’s True Love is?
Ultimately, I think Henry is her True Love because he’s not only her child, but he represents her chance to be a parent in the way she never had. She didn’t have any parents. So there’s such a complex, layered love there. I think True Love is going to redefine itself for Emma over the years, which is why she’s a fascinating character to me. She’s someone who have been so closed off to romantic love for so long, and she’s going to start rediscovering it in different ways based on having a family now and having her parents around and having her son back in her life. She’s constantly being faced with these outrageous challenges that all of these situations in the show bring her, so I don’t know what True Love means for her romantically because she’s not ready for it yet. So we’re going to see her grow into that and see what that becomes for her down the road.
Actors have to be careful about spoilers or making declarations about things as absolutes when they know the story could change. They are only ever told how their character feels at this moment, so it sounds like she hasn’t been told (or cleared to say) that Neal is a “true love” yet she can say that Emma was not just caught up in the moment with Neal. So what I take from that is that J. Mo. thinks her character’s understanding of what true love is evolving. Both MJR and J. Mo. have sort of said how important Henry is in terms of their character’s story arcs.

ParticipantIt’s still confusing for me what exactly was going on with GOAT. I get why she pretended to be Neal ‘s fiance–but what made the writers include this scene of Tamara telling Greg to not be jealous? Why underscore that Greg has doubts about whether Tamara has feelings for Neal? Are there some more missing puzzle pieces here–because it seems odd for Tamara and Greg to on the one hand say “your kind” in this derogatory way they do to Hook and Regina, and then for Greg to have doubts about Tamara ‘s feelings toward Neal. If they have a prejudice against storybook/magical people–why is Greg worried Tamara would fall for one, or why is she worried that he would think that?

ParticipantYeah someone threw out that idea of PP & Ariel, so (I think on a PP thread) that made me wonder if they could do a story of PP’s curse that he wants to grow up and can’t, because he fell in love (or was in love and turned too young). I agree though–do not want Ariel in love with a malevolent PP! Only if it is she is trying to free him from the curse.

ParticipantI agree Hook should have an epic back story–and I like the idea that what he thinks he knows is different than what actually happened.
I also have thought about this far too much –but I’ve had time as the first Hookriel thing I ever saw was before this season started.
I agree with RG’s responses to Slurpeez’s but want to add some stuff:
@slurpeez108 wrote:
Hook said his father was a fugitive, so I highly doubt Killian Jones is a prince. Even if Hook’s mother was high-born, he still wouldn’t be considered noble because he likely would have been born illegitimately (i.e. a noblewoman wouldn’t marry a fugitive, even if she might sleep with one). A noble title wouldn’t have passed from mother to son anyway, especially not one born out-of-wedlock. Noble titles always passed from father to legitimate first-born son.
What if what made his dad a fugitive WAS the relationship with the mother? Think about Queen Elizabeth I, who reigned without ever taking a husband. She was declared illegitimate after her mother was executed, but eventually got the throne. She also was rumored to have serious romantic interests in a non-royal man (Dudley). The lines of succession were not always clean and clear in history, and we’re talking about a fictional fairy tale land anyway.
Then of course, as a few people have mentioned now, Barrie’s comments that Hook’s real identity would “shock the nation” certainly could play into revising his back story to a fictional realm entirely, rather than fictional London.
@slurpeez108 wrote:Hmmmmm. I really don’t think Hook is secretly a prince. I think he’s the son of a runaway thief or perhaps even the pirate Davey Jones. Also, I don’t think Hook and Ariel were involved romantically. Hook’s true love was Milha, and I don’t think he ever got over this until maybe Emma. I doubt he had a relationship with a mermaid in NL, especially since Hook said the mermaids were cursed and said he hoped they spare Bae’s soul. So, at least at that point, Hook didn’t have a high view of mermaids.
I think it could be written a few different ways. The original mermaid stories (Disney or the Andersen) both feature the mermaid as saving the Prince without his knowing it is a mermaid that does so. So that could be how they “met” the first time, so she develops a crush on him that is unrequited but he doesn’t even know he met her. By the time she makes her deal to be human, he could have left NL. So she is stuck pining away for him–until he comes back again in the present to unfold in Season 3.
Regardless if Hook is Eric or not, it doesn’t seem like NL has a lot of “kingdoms” so if Ariel is located there, the writers will have to create some clever twist of how Eric comes into her life if she is in NL. If she’s cast young, it works to make Eric one of the Lost Ones stolen from FTL or another realm. If she’s cast older, then that idea seems less likely. They could also just leave out her romantic story as they did in a way for Mulan. So we’ll get an Ariel who’ll play some role but we won’t see her happy ending played out or hinted at as having happened.

ParticipantThere’s some interesting things they can do, such as the Jones connection to Davy Jones, or the “displaced” illegitimate child of royalty angle (hinted in Barrie’s comments on the original story of PP)….or even, maybe that Z he drew between P and S could be a tie to the legend of Zorro. (That was a Disney show at one point).

ParticipantI had this thought in the Ariel thread, when someone said something like they wonder if she will be a romantic interest for PP. What if he wants to grow up or already was (like August) but is cursed to be a boy, separating him from his True Love? He needs to find someone prophesied to take his place in order to grow up. It could tie in to Tinkerbell or BF –the whole danger of love thing.

ParticipantThis season wasn’t awful but it wasn’t as cohesive as Season 1. Reading the interviews where it sounds like they changed things up a lot mid-season or early into the season sort of explains why. I felt there were a few things that were rushed, such as Cora, MAP, GOAT, and Spencer/George. We can hang on to the hope that these stories will pay off in a bigger way down the line.
I do sort of worry that ONCE will suffer the same fate as Heroes–there’s a kind of similar trajectory in that the first season was strong, but the second suffered from too many new faces, and attempts to redeem the main S1 villain. So then the third season of Heroes was just (in my opinion) awful. The mythology of the show just became too convoluted and ridiculous. The plot gaps of “Well, why didn’t x just do THIS?” began to pile up.
Hopefully Once gets the 5 years to play the story out.
