I think someone mentioned this a few pages back, but Greg Mendel (who takes his name from a very famous scientist) probably analyzed that magical liquid the Dragon gave August.
I could see that, but is it just the two of them working together? I get the feeling she is calling the shots.

Yes it is a rework of that story (based on a book ) but Disney specifically set it in 1920’s in New Orleans Louisiana. The magic in the story comes from 2 characters. There is Dr. Facillier an evil vodoo doctor and Mama Odie, a good bayou dweller who is something like 179 years old. Tamara could be a descendant of one of those characters.

ParticipantA great episode that still held surprises despite all the spoilers and speculation I’d seen.
I think the best episodes, like Tallahasse, answer as many questions as they create.
So we now know who “Her” is, but not what she wants or why she targeted Neal. What’s up with her and Greg? He obviously knows about Neal, so she is not exactly playing Greg romantically like she is Neal.
Have we seen the last of the Dragon and what was he?
And far as Greg, at the end of last episode and the middle of this, I was rooting for him. Then the writers tug a string, and I think maybe it would not be so bad if Regina loosed a little Evil Queen his way. But only a little–depends on what he is planning with Tamarra. He may not know all her plans. We certainly do not!I do agree the Taser of Doom is a bit wonky. I hope the writers have a fix in mind.
And I agree with what BeastWhisperer wrote about “manly duty” and Neal’s character. Neal may have run away from some things, but that does not mean he is overall being portrayed as a coward anymore than Snow is now portrayed as evil.

ParticipantI’ve seen people mention the sea goddess name connection before. That also ties in with Calypso and Pirates of the Carribean.
A lot of pieces don’t fit about her.
She mentioned to the Dragon about having analyzed the vial with the best technology. Well, ordinary folks don’t have access to that. How could she afford all the stuff? Either she is working for a private but well funded group of paranormal type investigators or the government. Is she just working Greg or working with him? If he were a fellow magic hunter, perhaps they have known each other for years through the quest to find magic.
I also wonder about the picture. Maybe her grandmother had cancer and died, but that much was true that she started looking for real magic. Then she met Greg.
I do wonder why August leaped to the conclusion about her “stealing magic”. I got that he connected her to killing the Dragon, but why not ask if she was there for or to use the magic? Or destroy it? Why steal?

Ok, did anyone notice that it is David that wants to go back to FL, I still think Snow doesn’t want to go nor has David talked to Emma about going back to FL. ❓
Yes, he and MM/Snow had a previous conversation where Snow revealed she did not want to go back because she thought Emma would want to stay in this world.
It is interesting that David has not followed up and talked to Emma about that on screen. I think it would be a great scene to have really. I like the father/daughter moments. It would seem Snow is guessing correctly about Emma’s likely reaction to moving to FL, and Henry’s too given the “blow up magic” kick he just went on.

ParticipantIn the Let’s talk TV blog interview with Jane Epenson, a writer on the show, she was asked a question about a parallel in the show (I forgot what it was, not lasagne though), and she said something like she didn’t consciously write it that way, but wow, her subconscious is smart.
This lasagne thing reminds me of that, probably not something the writers deliberately put in the show, but does work as a metaphor on a few levels 😆

I like the idea of Regina and Hook. I think they both have capacities to be good.. They are just so similar in burying themselves in revenge for losing love ones. For me, they are a very good looking bunch. Like it was posted in this thread earlier that they will be “hot” couple. Well, I am Rumpel’s fan…. He would say they will be “spicy one” 😆
I definitely see the parallels between Regina and Hook. Was there any chemistry (ease and banter) or attraction between them in the few scenes they have together? I did not see any, but then I think they both have lessons to learn that they could not learn together. It might be spicy but in that Cora/Rumpelle vein of a dark destructive thing if paired together at this point. It would be more screen time for Hook but I am not sure it would be comfortable to watch if they dragged each other into more darkness.

ParticipantGaultheria– Best response yet 😆 …but then I 😳 realized I am not sure who that is. I thought it was a Transformer character maybe? Megatron or something?
I do want more off-the-wall surprises like Frankenstein, so even if I don’t know the character, the title screen with that robot-like image made me smile.“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. But instead of jumping in front of David do save them all Neal hides behind David. Like I said Emma might have been killed in Gold’s shop if David didn’t protect her Neal just jumped in the opposite direction, Neal is just a coward in my opinon. 👿
That’s fine, but I don’t think it is the opinion the writers expected viewers to have. That was one moment in a long scene. If the writers wanted us to think Neal is a coward, they would not have shown him fighting in Gold’s shop at all. They could have put him cowering in a corner or something.
Then at the well, Regina and Emma have magic and David has a gun. Neal does not have magic, or even a sword as he did in Gold’s shop. You think he is a coward, but I think he’s being smart, especially to avoid standing in front of the guy with the gun.
Maybe it is just a cultural difference thing, some idea that the man has to actively defend the woman, or he is a coward, even if the woman in question is better suited to defending herself and him. David comes from that kind of mind set a bit, the traditional Knight in shining armor role, but Emma is no helpless damsel in distress. It’s one of the great things about her, I think, that she is plenty brave all on her own. I know the writers have to juggle the traits of the characters somehow, and sometimes maybe one character comes off poorly in order for others to shine. We’ll have to see more of Neal before I will write him off as just a coward because he doesn’t try to rush headlong into danger the way Charming does.

ParticipantI watched the well scene again. Neal is behind Emma and David, but when Henry steps in the middle, he does try to move forward. Emma stops him.

Has anyone notice that David is the one protecting Emma not Neal especially in the Gold’s shop Neal just jumped out of the way of the fire ball but David was able to block it with his sword. After rewatching the well scene with Henry again it was David that was in the front, good old Neal was behind David not really protecting Emma. 😕
That did not stand out to me, but I think it is the effect of the writers trying to give David some heroic moments. There may also be trying to show different level of protectiveness toward Emma, since David is her father, and he is sort of in that old-fashioned fairytale Knight in Shining Armor mindset. Neal’s spent more time in the modern world. He may respect or be aware more of Emma’s ability to take care of herself more than David might.
As for that scene, I saw it like David is the type to lead and charge in. David is eventually flung out of Gold’s shop. After that Neal and Emma are shown working as a team, not Neal constantly hiding behind Emma. At the well, I thought Emma seems to pull Neal back from trying to rush forward, but I have to watch it again. If so, then she is sort of protecting him from doing something that might trigger Regina to attack.
