ParticipantRG: Hugs.
I tweeted Adam that I hope story driven is not like Red or August being driven away by the story. There’s not a character in the main cast that I’d be happy about them killing off. The only one of “major” I could take is Whale ..but they said regular so he’s not regular enough.

ParticipantI am glad for your positive thoughts!
I feel bad as I said for every fan of every regular charactger on this show. I said long ago that regular characters can be promoted, and can be let go –that’s happened on this show with Archie versus Red…then Red left.
I felt like we’d settled on a “core” set of characters who felt very organic to the whole story being told. Hook maybe not as much but he is wildly popular. The actor has a new baby, moved his family. On the other hand, there’s MRJ who’s single, likes to drink (can tell from tweets), hang out, seems laid back and kind of (how do I describe it) hipster grungy in his personal style. There’s a picture I saw of him hula hooping and drinking, let’s put it that way. He does seem to take his craft seriously and have a positive attitude in general, a warm kind heart. He has Ohana tatooed on his chest over the heart actually! He’s a sweetheart so not saying he seems like a brutish drunk or something–just someone who might miss the sunshine/friends in LA. All I know about Emilie is ..not much lol. She put up with an underdeveloped role on Lost though. And she apparently loves Rumbelle, in a shipper way. It makes me sad to think it is MRJ/Neal–because I love the character so much would have wanted them to recast it. It was always about the character, not the actor for me. [spoiler]
[spoiler] If they song and dance they “planned” this–a fake death then real one? Smacks of horrible writing, but LOST SPOILERS AHEAD—>…. A&E killed off Charlie (I think they wrote that episode) in LOST….could see them dipping into that well with Neal and Emma. The “You were my greatest hit” thing and noble sacrifice, following a prophecy /future premonition that he’d die. There are other things I didn’t like in the writing of this show, like August’s “happy ending” most notably but not the only thing.
Anyway I appreciate those of you trying to be positive.
EIther way, many fans are going to be upset no matter WHO it is.

ParticipantOBISGIRL: I said Colin moving his family was a reason I DID NOT think would be him. I cannot be 100% sure you were replying to my post, but it looks like it.
Now that I read the article–they say “major character” dying, but then say regular cast is not safe. That doesn’t mean major character = regular series member.
Could Whale die?

ParticipantSuggesting a character could do something “heroic for a change’–IS NOT being sensitive. Every main character in the show has had heroic moments at this point, moments of putting their interests aside for that of others. We all have different opinions about the scale of that versus others–but every one has been written to have reasons to have fans rooting for them. None were portrayed like say, King George or Blind Witch (who maybe had their fans too!)–people you only are meant to root against, their stories and perspectives relatively unimportant.
If you don’t understand that, that these characters ALL have fans who liked them, wanted to see them having a happy ending, then realize this is not a good decision for the show, not something the writers planned originally to do. I wish they’d sent the character to off-screen, cause we know they’ve done it before or contrived something (hello August) but ….it is what it is. Whether its Neal who could have gone to London with the Darlings or Hook to sail off or Belle, not sure, sort of Ruby treatment. There but not there–I don’t know but it upsets me no matter who it is.
I do think MRJ is most likely due to reading his twitter feed. First, he gets a lot of undeserved fan hate and while actors need to have thick skin, he probably wasn’t expecting quite that. Second, he seems to like warm places and Canada isn’t. Third, he doesn’t like getting up early (tweets again). He likes to drink (and could relate to an incident and messy trailer like the PA said). Finally, his main original arc is sort of done–the prodigal son. He expected maybe to have more scenes with Rumple and instead its this LT stuff. I could see that creatively, it is not fulfilling anymore.
Second would be Colin but for opposite reasons. He’s getting buzz, but he doesn’t seem thrilled about his character being stripped of the complications (its fun to play bad) and like sometimes happens, have to strike when the career is hot. On the other hand, new baby, and moved family, doesn’t seem the type to have messy trailers or get into an incident. So I put him 2nd.
After that I don’t know. I know the actor/actress backed them into a corner here so not what they planned but this is something that happened on Heroes and was kind of a problem with Nathan. They faked killed him, then really killed him too I think, if it does turn out to be Neal. I wasn’t the biggest Nathan fan but I liked him, and I liked Sylar too and Zach Quinto was deservedly made a big focus of the show for his talent in portraying the character. Pasdar wasn’t happy about another actor he was friends with getting axed the year earlier…so who knows what led to it all. Yet Quinto got the movie Star Trek and it resulted in some problems for the whole plot and …meltdown overall for the story.
Whichever way it goes, this doesn’t really set me up to be excited for this show anymore I’m afraid.
I might just DVR it and catch up after the season–I’ve got so many other shows I already DVRd that way.“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. ParticipantIs Esmerelada the gypsy lady? There have been mentions of gypsies as a mythological type in this story.
Hm interesting…the other Esmerelda I can think about is one of the aunts of the main character in Bewitched.

Participant🙂 WR very true! March is a long way away. I’m going to hope for a good story, that’s all.

ParticipantExactly and sometimes a star is just born and that’s the way it goes, they get all the limelight even if the show wasn’t ALL about them it can become mostly that way.
Zach Quinto is an example for Heroes, which is one reason I mentioned that show but its happened in Hollywood for ever, “Breakout star”. That can upset the applecart in terms of the writing for a serial and the power/egos of other actors. It’s hard to say why Heroes imploded but much as some people adored the brain eating serial killer with mutant powers, my dislike for the character grew when they started trying to make him sympathetic and then killed off another character I liked to accomplish making him closer to another main character. It wasn’t a romantic triangle thing (brotherly relationship)–but there was sort of a romance thing too with another character (ick). Hard to relate it all as the plot grew supertwisty.
I hope A&E studied up what happened to that show, and in general have a different Tv rating environment. So I know they’re trying to do what they can to keep up ratings, but also express themselves creatively–but if something has to take a hit in TV, its creative expression. Whatever story they wanted, their vision, is something that they’ve already admitted to changing for so many reasons. Whether it was the network execs looking at the pilot and saying “You can’t kill Charming!” to whatever happened that led to all the actors who they had on and now cannot get back to wrap up storylines, TV is a tough business.
I hope all the actors in the main cast are happy but if they aren’t? At any point they’re people who have long-term careers to think about, their work/life balance and just simple creative fulfillment. I loved Mr. Eko as a character on LOST, and the writers made the part for the actor who played him, changing many details as he requested. Yet the actor (hard name to spell ) apparently disliked living in Hawaii. That blows my mind but everyone likes different things. Maybe some of the crew hate Vancouver, we don’t know! We have absolutely no idea unless they give an interview that hints at how they feel and so far every press event, the cast just looks so tight-knit and content.
So I’m going to hope that there’s no big changes in terms of the intentions of the writers and level of focus for the ensemble. If that’s not the case–I got over Heroes (kind of!) and I’ll get over this too 😛

ParticipantLisas as I said in chat, we all love the show and want it to do well in terms of numbers. So sad as it is to see a disparity in the promotion team’s focus, the media is going to ask questions about things they think get fans excited and online promotion team is trying to reach the sorts of fans who actively talk to them. That doesn’t mean it all matches up to what the writers are doing exactly. If it ends up being reflective of the writer’s attitudes though, well then I’ll reconsider whether its a show I want to see–doesn’t make it a bad show but just not right for me.
I loved the Game of Thrones books, but the HBO series was too graphic for me.. I’ve heard awesome things about Grimm, Fringe, Walking Dead–but again, not something I can get myself into the mood about. I wanted a lighter tone, hopeful mix of action, adventure and magic.
Season 1 walked a fascinating line but it reeled me in but as with Heroes, the way the show continues to develop isn’t quite hitting all the marks for me right now. Heroes was the last show I spent so much time thinking about, and so many articles try to analyze where it went wrong.
Maybe OUAT isn’t “going wrong” but doesn’t mean its going to go a way that’s right for all of its current set of fans. We’ll have to see what happens but I think A&E realize that not everyone was giving the last season super high marks. Obviously as much as Hook does for fangirls–he doesn’t have that effect on everyone. It’s sort of like Justin Bieber. There’s girls that ADORE him and will defend him against all comers, but then there’s a lot of people who just rolll their eyes when he’s mentioned.

ParticipantVery similar thoughts to you Ranisha! That list is what I think too.
I also do not want Neal reverting to self-doubt, but Neal could show hesitancy because he thinks Emma would not be happy to see him with her memories reset. That could lead into talking about why he had to leave in the first place with Snow and Charming. He could say that she would never have believed him about magic and curses when they were together and she trusted him, so how was she going to believe the man she thinks set up her up years later? So at the end David and Snow would say have faith, she’ll believe you –but Hook says they can’t take the chance. So in character to him stealing the bean when he didn’t agree with their decision to go save Regina, Hook will say that Emma “made her choice” (having overheard that Emma did not go meet Neal, even though Charming is saying she was going to go). He will feel that it is not trickery then to take the potion and if Neal feel otherwise he can fight him for it, but he will not hold back and one or the other would die. Then Charming restrains Neal to say, let him go, because if he’s right, then he should and if he’s not, Emma will come back to Neal, have faith in her. I could see that playing out. The writers like to have mixed motives for their characters as it gives us fans things to be discussing, or as Jane said about writing Hook, you want their to be fans on both sides of the bleachers, for and against. So those who love Hook will say “Fighting for love, see he’s more willing to fight for Emma” and those who love Neal would say, like we did about Hook challenging Rumple for Milah “That’s underhanded, unnecessary and uncivilized, because you don’t settle things with duels to the death! “. Except Hook’s a pirate! I don’t want Neal looking cowardly though so that’s where Charming restraining him and saying Emma wouldn’t want you to do that if he’s right, and he is the one he’s chosen and if he’s wrong, she’ll find you.
Basically any situation where it’s clear that Neal still loves Emma and couldn’t or shouldn’t go, or made a sacrifice of some kind considering what he reasonably thinks Emma would want, is ok but I just hope it is not some scene that is obviously him lacking courage or conviction or you know, permanently dead. I don’t mind if he’s in a coma or under the curse. So long as his character is preserved with the growth he made, bit more confident but still having respect for others, for desiring to give Emma space, being practical about things for the good of all? That’s in character and could be reasons he didn’t go but at least we know its “good” reason.
