It got crackier as I tried to make it suitable for a SF thread…my original thought was, not a fake out death 🙁 NOoooooo my shipper heart!  But then I came up with all the silly shipper loophole stuff and went with it.

So I had this dark speculation that I am putting here because I know it would upset certain people on this board too much in the normal places for slightly cracky theory tossing.

What if the reason Hook is at Emma’s door is he kills Neal and casts the dark curse, after being manipulated by WWW?  I see it unfolding this way, Neal and Hook know they both love Emma and work together to find her.  Neal shows Hook the crystal ball and as they’re gazing at Emma in NY, the ball clouds up and a green face appears. Neal backs away because he’s seen the Wizard of Oz moive.  He doesn’t trust her, but Hook says the legends he knows are not the same and they should listen. She says she originally wrote the “blessing” to cross worlds but the Dark One  stole it and the Evil Queen twisted it to her purposes.  She needs their help to cast it again, so she can find a terrible Wizard who has escaped to the Land Without Magic and bring him to justice.  Hook says they should listen and take her aid, and they enlist the Charmings too.  So they get Rapunzel’s hair from a tower where Regina imprisoned her pre-curse.  Regina is reluctant to help because she doesn’t trust Wicked, knowing the curse was not a blessing.  RH believes her but not a lot of other people do because they’re so eager to help save Emma and Henry.  She keeps trying to stop them helping Wicked and everyone assumes she’s up to no good. (Sympathy for Regina from RH.) After they get all the ingredients, Wicked reveals there IS one more ingredient–the heart of the one you love most.  Neal and Hook are stunned, but Wicked explains its only the heart of the one you love most in the land you’re in and she can see there’s a bond and a rivalry between these two–who love Emma more? Even though he wants to get to his boy and the woman he loves, Neal refuses to kill Hook–but  Hook kills Neal because “a man unwilling to fight for what he wants….” and all that piratey way of thinking, but he tells Neal he’ll take good care of Emma and “the boy” as he falls–Regina cast a preservation spell, because she anticipated something like this happening, and she’s not going to let Henry’s father die! When they get to the cursed land, Hook still has his memories, and so does Wicked, because like Rumple, she built in triggers so she’d remember.  Except she needs Emma to break the curse so she can go find the Wizard, and Hook goes to get her figuring he’ll win her love before she finds out about Neal.   So all this plays out in flashbacks, and Neal’s fate isn’t revealed until mid-way through, when Emma finds his body.   Regina explains that Neal’s only mostly dead because she cast a preservation spell, and there might be a magical loophole using Frankenstein’s research if he can get another heart, and they use an artificial (tin) heart because Frank’s updated his knowledge of science, and Emma revives Neal with TLK  and he doesn’t turn into a monster.  Frankenstein has his happy ending of his research working–but he knows it would not be easy to duplicate.    Ok…that was my weird speculation/fic that popped into my head this morning.   I expect something much less convoluted to actually happen but I had to share the idea somewhere.

I was actually excited to have a story that wouldn’t drag on forever and WOULD end, back when they first announced the idea.

    I still feel that way.

Bless those people at Hulu for getting how complicated and rich a character Emma Swan is.

She spent days denying she still had feelings for Neal not because she’s over him and wants him dead, but because she loves him and is scared she’ll lose him again.   Everything he’d said about fate and destiny before, that maybe some corner of her rational brain didn’t quite believe, now believed and it terrified her.  He should have been dead.  Yet he wasn’t, and not only that, she probably felt it the moment she saw him again, that love she has for him.  Except she knows the threats Peter made about Snow and Charming, and above her fear for Henry, how much more fear can you take?
Especially when, it’s not all settled between them just like its not with her parents.  Trust takes time and while she has many good reasons to trust, its not a natural thing to her, not with the way she grew up.

Neal understood it and hugged her, and he kept on reassuring her (aside from the screwups with bickering with Hook).  He acknowledged his mistakes and strove to do better and did do better.  Just as she began to maybe think about letting down her guard, relaxing, yet another huge separation comes and plays out exactly the thing she feared.

It’s not the end of the story.   Emma can’t be at that point of having the faith and certainty that things will work out.  That’s because the way they’re telling this story, we aren’t being told this person is Emma’s True Love (other than Henry of course) and here’s how they overcome obstacles to be together again.   The story of who is or isn’t unfolds in real time and they have chosen to keep a lot of her emotions in the #nospoilers zone.

I miss those official podcasts, but I know a lot is A&E couldn’t spare the bandwidth while running WL too.  Still some part of me says they’ve been particularly reluctant to give the more broad interpretative answers they have in the past about how certain characters feel.   I think there was a concerted effort to control the marketing/media strategy but I’m not sure what conclusions they reached about what worked and didn’t in the story.

I don’t see any reason he can’t be “Uncle Henry” a friend of the Wizard and part of that lesser-known Oz mythology being used to explain he went to Oz.Most people know the movie where Henry was kind of a fatherly figure to Dorothy, and didn’t go to Oz–but by now we’re used to crazy off the wall reimagined versions.

I’m not sure what HE means by “just” Uncle Henry though.

It seems to me like you’re trying to say oh, he’s this Uncle Henry character–and not some other thing….what’s that other thing?  The Wizard? Someone Emma knows?   You see, logically we know so little–he could be both.  I know, mind-blowing but until we know more, the truth is they’ve done the “he’s a real world guy but SURPRISE he’s got a FTL connection too!”  thing, and the multiple characters combined thing, (Hello Pan is Pied Piper and Rumple’s daddy reveals!) and what’s to stop them doing it again?

So I don’t see any reason this guy could not be “Uncle Henry” from Oz  –but don’t think there’ll be anything “just Uncle Henry” about what they have in mind.  There’ll be something important about him.

So I had a four-way tie for first, Rumple, Belle, Neal and Emma and then Charming.

Snow was right after that though.  I would have thought I’d like Snow more than Rumple but maybe it threw it off that I liked Regina more than some other characters.  Pan was at the bottom! (Sorry PoM…felix was too!).

I think some fans banked it on DVRs for now–I planned to do that but …couldn’t wait 😛

So is she being like Rumple, and creating a fail safe to a curse she intends to manipulate someone else into casting then? I could see the WWW wanting to get to the world without magic to get revenge on the Wizard/Dorothy Gale who escaped there with the red slippers.

Maybe it was her curse she designed for that purpose and Rumple, through Regina, stole it.  Since Rumple’s “dead” she only has Regina to focus her anger on for having used it and having it reversed before she could figure out a way to use it for her purpose.

I can imagine she was running around SB   trying to do what Gold did with crossing the line, or frozen in her own world, and that’s why she never made progress, but after this curse reversal thing–look out!  She’s back and on the warpath to achieve her original aim and Regina and everyone who supports her, like Charming and Snow, are caught in the crossfire.

Aurora definitely had plants in her courtyard.  I’m still wondering how they were managing such a huge place with no servants running around !  Must have been more off-screen peasants.

Anything could happen!  If that does though then I hope we finally find out that Neal’s job in NY was actually a fireman when he is the one that grabs the hose:)

I could see that too Cinders!  Then they’d be these high heeled stiletto red sparkly things.
