ParticipantI think the family tree is kinked up enough as it is but there was that spoiler telling us Henry’s due to have two additions beyond the potential Snowing baby.
The WWW could be one, but really, I’d prefer they fill in Charming’s family. Even then, if WWW needs to be related to anyone, then I want it to be Maleficient so we can get more of that story. True Blood is ending and the actress who played Maleificient ought to be available again. Yes, I know, dead is dead and all that, but maybe there’s some kind of magical technicality with Maleficient if they go back to the lore of her being a dark fairy. Blue after all was killed, and yet popped back up “when her shadow was returned”. Doesn’t make sense because soon as Greg’s shadow was ripped he was “rotting, dead” according to Adam on Twitter. So suddenly there’s the equivalent of the two-second dropped on floor rule for shadow deaths? Ok then, if Blue gets a magical loophole (and I’m counting on Rumple getting one) why not Maleficient?

ParticipantNeal cut that close, didn’t he, that leap onto a shadow. As a shipping joke, I might even say, hey that’s what I call “foreshadowing” that though he cuts it close, he isn’t going to be “too late” to reach Emma.

ParticipantHappy New Year…!
Oh those favorite moments are wonderful. I’d forgotten the way Neal said Emma’s name at the campsite! I did remember her saying home that way. I’ll admit, that I was disappointed that the star map wasn’t actually a star map–but really who would come up with an arcane candle of shadow capture!? How’d he even know to make something like that in the first place, and why was it still in his cave? Sorry, the little mythology things are just nitpicks that bother me and I need to get back to the shippy stuff in this thread.
The writers keep putting in subtle clues tying Emma and Neal, so I am hoping that there is going to be more to come to show why Emma would think Neal is “it” for her the way he’s obviously been shown to feel for her. Emma right now is the one who’s going on a bit of a journey and quest of self-discovery to be sure about what she wants out of life. Her fake memories and the process of believing again to recover and merge the old ones might just give her enough perspective to truly appreciate Neal ‘s side of things.
Yes, he’s apologized, and not tried to downplay or excuse himself (let alone blame her for his bad choices) and shown that he will do what it takes to be there for her–uncontrollable fairytale catastrophe’s aside. We don’t know yet why Neal doesn’t show up at Emma’s door, but I’m guessing that just as we don’t fully know why he left her the way he did, there’s larger forces at work preventing him. It isn’t lack of courage, or love this time, just as A&E said that about the first time fairy-tale fate drove them apart. He’s already shown he loves her with the crystal ball (and that wasn’t about Henry AND Emma, just Emma). He might have some doubts about how she feels now but I think that’s where the story lies here, that to show the audience that this time, despite those doubts, he is going to rise above it to be steadfast and wait for Emma to come to him in her time, yet be by her side so she knows she has his support either way, unconditionally.
Emma has to drive the action and pursuit, I feel now, not Neal. She’s the main heroine, not a passive princess to be rescued, so I think it is ok the ball will sort of be in her court. Only Neal’s at a place to admit it emotionally that something more than Henry or just friendship came out of their previous relationship, that they truly love each other.
As far as headcannons go about the jail thing–I have no idea. It could be less flattering to Neal, such as August literally talks him into putting Emma in jail for some half-thought-out by the writers magical curse reason and Neal’s just sort of fate and fairytales and goes for it, because he cannot risk putting Emma in danger if he second-guesses what August says. With magic, and being in that sort of world, it could make sense to him that she has to be heartbroken for the magic to work. I’d prefer it not be written that way though. That would be the “split it down the middle way” and please neither those who love to hate Neal nor those who want to defend him (or August).
I’d rather it be something that happened where Neal didn’t choose to send her to jail, but rather, only found out in a situation where he couldn’t do much about it. Even then, despite what he said to August, maybe he did try only to realize he’d risk exposing Emma in someway to more risk. Maybe the blood magic thing with Pan hunting Neal led to August making Neal promise to steer clear of Emma, because while August wouldn’t kill Emma to break the curse, Pan (through his minions) would if he could find her. If she were with Neal, then he could find her. So Neal had no choice to be near Emma. I’m fairly sure August didn’t require Neal’s promise to steer clear just to be mean or arbitrary about it. He really thought Neal would get in the way of Emma being in the necessary state to break the curse. So the question is why did he think it, and what else did he think and who gave him that information?
August’s reluctance to take the money was just about his own personal greed, but he did leave Emma the bug and keychain. He wasn’t just playing them completely and he did seriously want the curse broken, but he also knew there was a waiting period until that could happen.
He did take the time to drive the bug to Phoenix since Emma found it. Then going so far away might have been partially greed, but partially trying to keep Pan away from Emma in case he left a trail to her.
Headcannon wise, what I’d love to see would be that some big twist with the new big bad being the one giving August all his information about what August has to do to avoid Pan killing Emma to break the curse. Then later we find out the villain is ‘helping’ because the new villain doesn’t want the curse broken that way because that way wouldn’t let her cast it again. Sort of how Cora didn’t want Rumple to die in NY and his power boil away, not that she wanted Rumple to live.
I want there to be a better reason we didn’t see this story until now, than what we saw with Henry’s adoption. Really, the Darlings being there in a “missed it by that much” kind of way just doesn’t give me confidence that it is going to be so epic as seeing August reporting to the thought exiled Black Fairy or is it really a spoiler to say Wicked Witch? . I just would love some big reason that makes keeping back this story of why and how Neal left meaningful to more than just shippers.“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. ParticipantI took it as Belle fishing for information basically, which she later confirmed in that scene in Skin Deep.
Really for me the larger problem was that spending time on scenes for the casual audience to remind them of things gave me the feeling they’re sort of “done” with the mythology and backstory from the original premise of the story. I have this feeling they aren’t going to ever answer the little things now–because it doesn’t matter. There’s a new threat/curse situation going on, and we’ll probably NEVER learn these timeline type things because the writers probably never mapped it out in their heads either. Adam didn’t even “word of god” answer with a logical sort of response like “Smee just found out because Hook didn’t trust him earlier but yes, Tink was more newly arrived in NL than they.” Ok that’s logical based on what we already knew so no spoilers, but saying “oh nothing to do with the timeline”–another dodge.
Maybe I’m wrong and they’ll be revisiting things in future reveals that they’re strategically holding back but right now I just think the finale and interviews suggest they’re totally changing tracks, trying to stop the ratings slide with a new, maybe new viewer friendly approach.

ParticipantHm that could be interesting–same curse, different reason to cast it–but perhaps WWW originally wrote that curse to get to Dorothy but Regina obtained it (guided no doubt by Rumple to do so) and that is why WWW wants revenge on Regina for stealing her curse. Remember Malecificent said, whoever wrote it made them look positively moral.

ParticipantI hope so, Phee. I feel like they wrote it with the casual viewer in mind, thinking “Ok, we need to remind them of this and that…. full circle moments….” and not realizing how shifts in the dialog imply various things.
It wasn’t even Hook’s dialog with Tink, so much as it was what he said to Smee, so this being the first time Hook meets Tink is irrelevant. “Now that we know…” Shouldn’t that be something Hook’s told Smee countless times? It could have come off better with Smee heaving a sigh and saying “I KNOW Captain, you told me that before,” and then Hook blaming this cursed land, and endless journey to find a way off etc.
Maybe it was their inexperience as showrunners, combined with the overly ambitious decision to stage Wonderland or maybe its’ just as you said Phee, it made sense to them based on knowledge of events we don’t have.

ParticipantDoes anyone find it weird that if Chris’ character is Emmas boyfriend that he’d be ok with her taking off somewhere he’s never heard of with Hook.
Depends on what she’s telling him is going on. She might not mention Hook and he might not see Hook because no one has shown us BTS shots of Mystery Guy and Hook have they?
She might say her family is in trouble and Hook never factors into it at all. Mystery Guy might be someone she’s come to rely on as a friend in her new life, and who she trusts to watch Henry, whether there’s something or potentially something romantic going on with them. For all we know, Henry is not returning to the EF/SB because he cannot because of a magical reason like the original curse had a stipulation that Regina could never see the one she loves most again to reverse it.So let’s say that’s part of Emma’s new tragedy. Hook shows up to tell her that the rest of her family is in danger and that he has a way for her to go help them, but of course, Henry cannot go because Regina is there. Emma calls Mystery Guy and asks him to become Henry’s legal guardian (and because she isn’t sure she’ll ever return, tells Henry to mind Uncle ___ whatever his name is, adding that guy to the family tree. ) Mystery Guy thinks she’s being dramatic, but he’s a good friend/boyfriend/potential boyfriend and gives her a some-what pacifying kiss on the head in return. Because, really what do you do if someone says they trust you with their kids life, but out of nowhere are being dramatic and acting like they’ll never see them again, but can’t tell you what the trouble is all about?
More cynically though, I kind of wonder about that scenario simply because Gilmore has hit that pre-teen age of “Walt” territory (if you saw Lost). I’m just curious if they’re going to do a combination of “Walting” him (LOST reference) and if you’ve ever heard of the Cosby show, “Rudy”ing him with Roland, the new younger, cuter kid model. I like Henry as a character, and feel he is in many ways the heart of the show, but the Winter Finale really did have a well, Finale feel to it.
Something about the new curse, things the writers have said, just make me feel like they’re going to try to set a completely new tone somehow, and moving away from #SaveHenry might be part of it. That’s nothing I WANT them to do, but I just worry they would. Henry wouldn’t be the first or last kid character that went from a central position to being permanently off-screened for various reasons, like growing up.

ParticipantAdorable Lauren!
I also loved that comment that Neal was not a boy anymore. He has been on a journey to gain his confidence and self-worth, his direction in life and face his past. While he does not get the screentime and fanfare other characters do, it is quite amazing what an emotional journey the writers put him on.
I saw this quote looking up Quiet Minds references for 315Love is friendship that has caught fire. It is quiet understanding, mutual confidence, sharing and forgiving. It is loyalty through good and bad times. It settles for less than perfection and makes allowances for human weaknesses.
Ann LandersAnn Landers was a famous advice columnist. That quote needs a pretty GIF set but I’ll leave it to the talented people to try that stuff :P.

ParticipantThere’s definitely cute fan stuff coming from every direction right now but I wonder what the writers will have in store, so trying not to get too set on some fan vision of things because already the way the winter finale went down really scrambled all the story elements in the air!
I didn’t picture Regina meeting Robin while separated from Henry but still with everyone from SB, back in Evil Queen black and potentially with the Wicked Witch on her case! I could see Neal and the Charmings sort of vouching for her now, but also could see fear and stress splintering everyone. So many ways to go and weeks too until we get a glimpse. I hope the first episode does have everyone seeking out Robin and band quickly.

ParticipantThat would be an interesting twist. So many directions they can go really, so excited to see what they do with it.
I think it had the feel of the other promos for legendary characters in that it isn’t an actual scene. It might echo things that we will see, but it is a stretch to say the promos were foreshadowing events in a meaningful way. Yes, Ariel shows up at the Dwarf’s lunch, but she didn’t steal a fork or have a blue tail, or have any sort of mischevious “so long sucker” attitude to her like it seemed the promo Ariel did with that one hand wave when Grumpy shouts. Then Hook, well, I can’t think of a significant scene he has inside of Gold’s shop up until the thing this season where it was pretty much all the main cast characters (but not actors as it was Kay not Gilmore playing Henry). Even the baby blanket was an off-screen break-in that apparently Smee handled. So I think whoever makes the promos isn’t given much information or the plot ideas change by the time the script is filmed. I do expect we’d see a gold brick road though, but not sure it will literally form under Wicked’s feet that way or that she’ll be approaching SB from the land without magic way.
I like the idea of her being both Dorothy and WWW, perhaps having landed in the real world with the ruby slippers in order to avoid a prophecy of a huge curse/change her life? Then like what might have happened to Neal had he crossed the line with Emma and Henry, the reverse curse Regina triggers rips her back to Oz. So she’s upset at losing her “new life” and comes to EF to cast a curse to go back?
I just want Wicked’s motivation to be Regina’s original curse not some newly created backstory grudge (unless it has to do with Maleficient. That I’d welcome seeing).
