ParticipantI did love the twist with the Sultan even though we’d guessed he was the man in the cage, we never would have guessed how cruel and cold he was deep down. He is never going to give Jafar what he wants and he would rather die than say Jafar is his son or that he loves him. I think after Jafar killed Mirza, after he upstaged him, after he didn’t listen about his place, there was no way the Sultan was going to love him.
The thing I wonder about is why Ulima seemed convinced the Sultan would love Jafar, and why the Sultan gave Ulima the ring in the first place?
The scenes of Alice talking to her father, and knowing that’s really Jafar hearing this and saying it–that was really interesting. He was saying all the things he wanted to hear from his father, but then at the end, he knows when Alice talks about meeting someone cruel and horrible, she’s talking about him. He might have bonded with Alice in that moment, but then later on when her father does actually talk to Alice and says he won’t ask for her forgiveness as he doesn’t deserve it, that must have twisted the jealousy in Jafar’s heart some more! The Sultan would never say that to Jafar, would never love him so much as Alice’s father in the end did love her.
Jafar has forced her to use two wishes up pretty fast, and Wil is promised the third so I wonder how that all is going to shake out.
I’m glad the show will complete it is run but I am not sad at all the ratings were not good enough for them to plan another round.
When this ends, I would like to see Jafar head to OUAT to make a real threat but he might end up being bottled up as a genie too. The rest don’t do too much for me, but I suppose seeing Will around town like we do Whale every once in awhile would be fun.

ParticipantConsidering the first 10-15 minutes of The Wizard of Oz is in black and white, I wonder if WW of the W will be from a realm of Frankenstein’s “A Land without Color.” It seems fitting if we see her in flashbacks (and probably will) that’s where she’ll be. Like Kansas is there is the country side of that realm.
I thought that too, though it was in the crack theory thread:
I do seriously want more of the monster world because in part I feel they wasted Anders but in part it is just different and awesome potentially. The Wizard of OZ starts off B&W so maybe Dorothy ‘s “Kansas” is really in that land and Rumple mistakenly thought slippers went to the land without magic but they did not?
So I see Matt saying Sepia versus B&W but I feel it is roughly the same idea, a world of limited color, and Whale was in “Europe” of that world so there could be an American state of some sort. As I wrote there, what Rumple thought happened may not have been what happened as he is not infallible, just crafty, powerful and clever but he does have blindspots.

ParticipantI doubt many people consciously choose to straight up ignore scenes, but to the extent there’s any way to interpret differently, well we all bring our different experiences and subjective filters to bear. I don’t think that is ‘insulting” to the actors or writers, as someone once said on the CSF thread because life is full of subjectivity. You can try your best to act a scene one way, but of course, the writers create some shaded meanings with words they choose, music they play and what direction they give the actors. So at times it may not be that clear to the actors everything they feel in a certain scene because it is written to be unclear to the character, but sometimes to the actor too. As MRJ said, the future will further define the meaning of the present.
So we get Emma admitting she never stopped loving Neal, but some thought she was clearly done and over with him last season. Those shipping SF said no, she is denying her feelings. Turns out, that interpretation was right, she was denying it but the other might have been right without the hindsight knowledge we now have . When we saw promos, some were convinced that Emma’s lack of trust of Neal would lead her to pull a gun on him. Turns out it was quite the opposite. She asked him to watch her back! We debated the I need you, I love you scene all summer, concluding well no future intention because she thought he was dead. Then later this season, Emma straight up says she never stopped loving Neal, and even saying she will probably always love Neal–but the catch is right now, she is terrified to face the pain and not feeling happy to see him in NL. There’s ambiguity in this that kept the door open for people to hope that what Emma is saying is that she wants to move on.
I bet you, if someone asked Adam what Emma meant–did she mean she wants to move on, or did she mean she’s afraid to love Neal in the present because she’s afraid to lose him and deal with all the pain–he’ll say spoilers. Now why would it be spoilers? The scene already played! That people took such different interpretations of what she meant out of it just says to me that is what the writers wanted us to do. They can make it clear and if the show does not Adam is not shy on twitter (but I miss the podcasts).
Once or twice in those podcasts they said something like you could assume thi s or you could interpret that if you want. I think they know there will always be multiple truths in some scenes.

ParticipantIn the original Aladdin story there is a genie of a ring and in a bottle. I don’t know what that means in OUAT myths though. Could the ring be something that came from a wish and the inability to love/inability to die is tied to it?
Maybe Jafar’ mother used a wish to save herself or become a healer and that magic ring keeps you alive but at the cost you cannot feel love for others? I don’t know why but I feel like if magic cannot make you love someone it does seem like it could make you stop (by taking away memories or perhaps even directly removing a heart).

ParticipantWell not so bright plans are a Snowing trademark I guess. Remember that time they talked Rumple into letting them find his cleverly hidden dagger, only to lead Cora & Regina right to it. Or how Charming let George get his hands on the hat? Or how about that time Snow thought Regina could not hurt them any more so let her go? Then they tried to use the BF to freeze Regina and she couldn’t, or hide the beans ….

ParticipantOne I still want: Dr. Frankenstein and Dr. Jeckyll used to be roommates (yes I want Jeckyll and dracula to come from land without colour)
Ok, I want this too–and Dr. Jekyll can be played by Jeffrey Donovan and amp up the crack with my Hook’s son/Neal’s half brother thing. Who cares as long as they also just get Bruce Campbell as they say on the internet “for reasons.”

ParticipantI am wondering that too Pan14, because it is possible Pan drank that water too, just like Charming at some point in Pan’s very long life. Of course, does that mean Henry would die in Pan’s body or would Pan die ? How does it work magically?
Kudos to whoever first mentioned Medusa: Medusa being a Gorgon, how about some goronzola cheese instead of a cookie?
I agree, Pan is going to want to rip the parents apart, and pick at old wounds. As Henry, he can get away with a lot, but I also don’t think he’d want to be near Regina. She’s too…suspicious. Even as she is hungry for Henry’s love and approval, I think she’s also the one most likely to notice because she spent the most years with him. Emma knows him slightly better, and Neal least of all. So I could see Pan picking Neal, because that would stir the most emotions up. Regina and Emma would feel hurt, and of course, that leaves Hook to “comfort” Emma, which gets on Neal’s nerves, and then you have Rumple happy to see Belle again but still having to be on best behavior. Pan might let something slip to Rumple alone but in a way that is sort of “Hah ah, he’ll never believe you that I’m not me., and if you say anything, you have no proof He’ll just think you’re on about the prophecy again.”

ParticipantOr maybe it was an ingredient in the old one? We assumed Rumple wrote it but maybe he did not.

ParticipantMaybe the deal will be cute, like Rumple asks Neal to pay the price, and that is giving him his blessing to propose to Belle? Yes usually it is other way around but.. I could see Rumple feeling like he wants Bae to know he is not doing what Pan hinted and ahem thinking about “fertile” girlfriend for new family to replace Bae.

ParticipantIt is not Hook or Colin to blame for the media-engine, but I do not think his character has received proper development. Saying oh, he always made dramatic sea-changes in his life goals is kind of a cop out.
So I was noticing the notes on the confession that RG linked and it seems there are some CSers so unaware of the scenes between Neal and Emma that they think it is “fanon” to see an understanding between Neal and Emma.
Here are all the scenes that show a deep understanding between these two.
1) Their entire scene in the loft when Henry is asleep, tired from a day of sword-fighting. Emma makes a wry joke about giving the kid drinks and Neal gets her sense of humor. Then they have a serious conversation about what it might be like to go back to their land. He reveals to her he never had an easy time there, but without going into details so as not to burden her with his old, long held scars. He finishes her sentence about what to call August, and again, doesn’t go into details to burden her with his issues with August who stole the money. Instead, Neal focuses on reassuring Emma because he knows that is what she needs then, and tells her she will always find what she is looking for, far as the danger to SB.
2) At the beach, when he apologizes, he can tell from her reactions exactly what she is feeling, and he finally gets the courage to tell her his regrets, and he is sorry. She acknowledges it, and they both put it aside because finding out about the threat to SB is more important. Even if he doesn’t believe her, he has her back and she asks him to get her back. They’re still a team, going into that cannery.
3) When he falls into the portal, he understands her well enough to know how to get her to let go. He could have been selfish and said “Well Henry has freakishly young grandparents the same age as Emma, so good enough, he won’t be alone.” No, he knows Emma would never forgive herself if she chose to be with him for a few hours before he died instead of with Henry her parents, especially as there was still a danger in Tamara and Greg out there.
4) When they reunite in NL, he knows how to listen, when to apologize.
5) When he is upset at Hook, she figures that out from how he reacts, and she tries to ease the tension with a joke. We have not seen her crack a joke like that the whole time until Neal arrived.
6)Emma could tell Neal lost hope just from the marks on the wall. Even if she got the coconut wrong, she knew it meant the way home.
7)Emma and Neal were in synch as a pair on launching the coconut.
I know there are more little scenes of how these two just understand each other. That’s not to say she doesn’t have moments where they don’t see eye to eye, or that she doesn’t connect on some level with Hook (or Charming, Snow, or Regina for that matter) too but I am saying Neal and Emma have had several scenes showing they get each other in a very deep way.
