ParticipantRG, that stuff is just wrong, and awful, absolutely. I now checked out tumblr and saw repeats of what was said on twitter and it is horrible, way more that the small quibbles expressed over other departures from the Disney look.

ParticipantWhat if Maleficent isn’t a human/fairy who can turn into a dragon…. But a dragoness who turns into a human… Just putting that out there >>
I love that idea. It did seem like Maleficent was sort of “protecting” the world by hoarding dangerous things. Though its not clear she’s doing it for the sake of the world versus her own desire to hoard.

ParticipantI agree Angiebelle, and it’s really not different than how we complained or would have if Ariel didn’t have red hair or that it wasn’t red enough. That the actress cast was older than a teen bugged some viewers too, but I didn’t mind that. I don’t recall seeing anyone complain about her complexion/heritage being Latina but of course, she is, and her costume design like that of the others presented a new spin on the traditional visuals.
So people naturally always have complained about differences versus the iconic versions from Disney in particular. I know I’ve griped a little about Belle’s reddish tone (not that Emilie is a natural blonde). I’ve seen people go the other way too–saying they wish they’d just let Emilie stop dying her hair and have Belle be blonde! What matters more is how they work in the character for an exciting story, and on some level, can they capture the essence of the character from some familiar version. With Ariel, I didn’t mind if they blended from the Andersen version at all, nor did I mind the changes they did make. The same with the other princesses that they’ve done. Belle is one of my favorites despite the funky accent and the reddish hair. She loves books, is clever and kind and has the really important elements (aside from the love for her father…but I’ve brought my issues with that up elsewhere).
I hope this version has the spunk, the creativity, the open wide-eyed love of life that Tangled versions’s had. If they give her a chameleon (Rumple? Oh no not that!) and a purple-pink dress I’d be pleased enough, but they don’t have to bring in Flynn or Gothel versus blend them into other characters or just leave them out.
OUAT versions are always going to be alternate universe and not faithful recreations. I mean, just look what they did with Pan!

ParticipantI think they got feedback from fans that people missed SB, so we won’t be stuck in another land that way again so soon I think.
I do think though they might do flashbacks to Oz or set up for side-trip to Oz or something that way.
About Cruella: Well I read someone’s headcannon that she designed the EQ’s outfits. I loved that, and also after the once upon an anonymous version, I just liked the idea of her as a drag-queen (was hoping they’d cast RuPaul….). Just let their costume designer go win some more awards because costume eye candy is a good chunk of why I love the show !
Someone made the hat and the shoes that realm jump, since Jefferson could not replicate it in WL–what if that was Cruella? I’m really on the 3rd spinner kick 😛 Could have been her.
Maybe that’s how the beans “got away” from the fairies and giants and led to the Ogre Wars–Cruella started trying to organize teams to plunder the realms for materials.
It’s wacky-cracky, but I agree it is tough to follow up Pan with a similar villain, so why not go for one who’s not looking for world domination, just artistic inspiration and doesn’t care who or what she hurts to get it?

ParticipantGlinda: twisted, long road? And the award for casting actors from previous shows goes to…

ParticipantWell not necessarily, Slurpeez, with magic it can work in many different ways. She could have prophetic abilities that simply come out that what she draws comes true, but she isn’t blind and actively sifting puzzle pieces in her mind the way the Seer appeared to be.
If you think about types of prophecy or future-reading, you have things like horoscopes, birth-charts, tea leaves, crystal balls, ominous warnings from old stories, and who knows what else. They could tap into greek myths about oracles.
Maybe she could even be the third spinner some of us suspect might exist!

ParticipantI hope you’re right Slurpeez! It is not like it is even a huge cost–they need someone in their marketing department to spend 15 minutes in a graphic software to type up “Believe in ……”. Maybe his can even just be 3 words. “Believe in Family.” Done, and Nealfire fans can be happy without making any opposing shippers unhappy. It still works for SF as that’s what Neal sees as his family as he includes Emma. Yet it could be taken as just about his father, “step-mom” Belle and Henry. Maybe not so much grandpa.

ParticipantI wonder if she might be the one who drew the picture of Henry if they keep personality traits of Disney Tangled princess, she is an artist (among other hobbies!).
Or if they are doing an AU–what if instead of Henry she is the one that Regina adopts?

ParticipantSo there was a bit of a thing happening tonight on Twitter in regards to Nealfire’s official poster. Adam seems to think that it has already been released and was given the pic of Neal with his hand in his pocket. But with no words. I get that the show like its money and maybe they are trying to sweep Neal’s poster under the rug but I need to rant. It’s wholly unfair. WHOLLY. There are a lot of fans of Nealfire and SwanFire and I’m really tired of being treated like we don’t exist and like the show isn’t at least setting up SOMETHING for SwanFire. ABC official Twitter can’t even spell his name right. It was never officially released and when asked if the “Believe in Second Chances” one WAS official, ABC flat out said no but it would be coming soon. But it didn’t. Couple this with the 308 press release which makes it seem like Neal wasn’t helping search for Henry at all (um. No. he was one of the 4 who went in search of Henry while Hook and Tink stayed behind….) and it’s all….just…frustrating. If it’s not endgame, fine. I’ll deal. But at least acknowledge that Nealfire IS Henry’s father!!! And important to the cast! And show! And fans!
I have the same rant, and I tweeted the Oct 19th response about the posters not being “ready” from the official OUAT twitter, that they would come soon. We’re in December now, and they never responded once to my questions about the posters. When someone asks to invalidate them though? They reply very quickly to disown the posters. I understand some fan groups are bigger, more vocal than others but I feel like after saying “soon” they ought to have had an update or at least say “We are releasing them strategically.” Is it so hard to come up with something for Neal? If 2nd chances are too shippy, then find something else. “Believe in family.” Whether or not he is romantically with Emma, he is still connected to the family and I don’t know, it would be something. Then again, this way I can just go on thinking his theme was 2nd chances because it feels to me the thing that makes he most sense for him.
