ParticipantI agree, he loved but in a very immature way. We see this pattern a lot on once, just like Cora’s father did not know how to be responsible enough to take care of her. Parents can push and be too controlling, but they can also be too lax and uninterested. These extremes are bad either way.

ParticipantHeather, hope you get some good rest and feel refreshed!
I agree with what you’re talking about, but I think as Emma never saw those things play out, then J.Mo cannot really bring it in to how she plays Emma. She doesn’t want to judge Emma’s actions, and so even if there are things from an audience perspective she might think, she isn’t going to say much about it, especially when she wants to promote the show. Emma can only react to what she sees and she is not such close friends with Rumple, Belle or Archie herself that she would hear their impressions or that it might change her impression of him if they did. Neal’s thoughts might influence her but it depends whether she believes him or thinks he is just being petty and jealous in how he tells the story. So I could see Neal not bringing any of it up because water under the bridge now.

ParticipantSnow seemed like she just met Ella at the ball that night, when she said she was an “inspiration” to everyone.

ParticipantThe problem is more than ships, I fear.
We all see the characters in different lights.
So even when we are just trying to make an opinion clear
those opinion exchanges can seem like fights
I started off being more about the speculation and analysis
the discussion of character, and moral wrong and right
and I still care more about this
and the story that these producers might choose to write
The problem is, shipping is invasive
and while some agree to disagree
that way of thinking is so pervasive
it is hard to avoid completely
I’d love the show to get back to the feel of Season One
where good verus evil was the theme
a curse, magic and happy endings one by one
but the writers have a different dream

ParticipantI actually can see Neal and Robin getting along really well. I wonder how that might affect either romance–double dates sure bring it on! Of course in this show that would mean battling a Yeti or something.

ParticipantI love the magic lentils!
Hamilton the sane shoemaker found Rurigena and together they tried to save the kingdom until his son, Clumsy took up with a gang of dwarves out to overthrow Orange the trustworthy fairy, and enslave the fairies to control the liliputians that grow the magic lentils. Hamilton and Ruri used a magic shoe to open a portal for the liliputians to escape servitude, taking them to banal-land. A safe place where nothing ever happened.

ParticipantI agree Ranisha and PoM. Maybe they will hero-glaze Hook some more and show he was a revolutionary pirate, in the tradition of classic story types. There’s also Scarlet Pimpernel and Zorro. There’s a lot they could blend in if they want, but so far I would have a hard time matching that up to his bullying of the beggar, his remarks on Jimmny’s looks, and just other small moments.
Hook seems like maybe he was in the shadow of Liam a bit, despite that he did feel hopeless and snapped on his death. There’s just this boastfulness to Hook that often oversells his true accomplishments. How many people have we seen best him? I think we need more than 1 hand. Belle, Greg, Tamara, Regina (didn’t need magic to push him off a cliff!), Gold (didn’t need magic to beat him down with a cane!), Cora, and of course Emma (with an umbrella stand, and in the fight they say he “threw”). There’s his lines about how “even I never ” went into Shadow Valley (but Bae apparently did at 14?).
I just don’t know how much we’re supposed to trust what he says, or whether some of it is not entirely true, but I do think he is not a thug-style pirate who hurts others simply because he enjoys it. I don’t think he is truly a sadist. I do think he is insecure, despite his outward show of confidence and that a lot of his behavior and half-truths stem from a desire to appear more useful, survival instincts, rather than a more malicious place like Regina pre Season 3. Regina lied sometimes just because she could, as she did to Hansel and Gretel about their father leaving. Maybe she’s changed now but I can’t fully trust her character is just all sweet and goodness now any more than I can believe it for Hook.
As RG said, there were magical reasons, and manipulation and abuse that explain why Gold and Regina turned out the way they did. Hook’s story feels like while he is less evil overall in terms of his actions, he is more responsible for that evil (well that’s buying the magic darkness warping Regina brain theory, otherwise I still think she did a lot of it on her own).
What’s really funny against it all though is the contrast to Neal, who is very understated about anything he’s done. He apologizes, owns up to his mistakes, but doesn’t try to take credit for things he doesn’t deserve, not even a little bit. He does the right thing, as he did saving Whale, not because he wants to be admired and loved, but because it is the right thing to do. He’s a good person basically, who may not be as out-ward focused and heroic to the extent that he goes out looking for people to save, but he steps up to the plate when the ball comes his way.

ParticipantIf AU or dream nothing needs to make sense as it is a different world. If in future, there are several huge questions that make me think it is less likely to be the case. It could be, but if so likely an alternate future maybe that they need to prevent? Perhaps that is how Rumple’s visions work?

ParticipantYes Cinders, BAE is Pan’s grandson. The article said HENRY was. This would mean Rumple and Emma had a hook up, not Emma and Neal. That was what I meant by the article was off, and “GoldenSwan” was a joke (though some people did ship in S1).
I think the tie to Hook’s past still doesn’t undo the sense that Charming’s story was essentially meaningless. Charming thought he’d die for a bit, didn’t tell his family, but when he told them, it only lasted an episode or so of fall-out. It’s like the whole Katherine thing, in the end, it didn’t even matter, all was forgiven and they go right back to skipping down the lane, holding hands.
In any case, the Hook story itself was bad for Hook too. We learned nothing about the things we already wondered about, such as his deals with Pans, interactions with Tink, or most of all, history with Bae. Instead, we learn about a brother never hinted about before, and the brother dies. So while that was Hook’s motivation for losing hope and turning Pirate, it also felt meaningless in the grand scheme unless we revisit this King, and his legacy. All we know is, Hook didn’t become a pirate because he was forced to be one, but because he couldn’t handle his anger and sadness over his brother’s death, and his sense of betrayal by the King for telling them they were seeking a healing plant, when they were after a weapon. Of course, maybe the King was deceived, but Hook never questioned it.
It does tie into how Hook gets so angry at Emma that he goes back to helping Cora, after Emma left him behind, and it might explain Emma’s reluctance to be too harsh in shutting Hook down. The guy does not take rejection or betrayal terribly well. He acts out but demands and expects others to trust him despite his bad actions, which reminds me a LOT of how Regina is.

ParticipantI think that interview was poorly written first of all. I joked about goldenSwan but seriously Pan is Neal’s grandfather not Henry’s. It should have said great-grandfather. Anyway, I think it was written before that last episode came out. We already saw how Charming will be saved with plot convenient Gold potion unless there is more in store to it. Maybe if Gold does die then Charming might too ? I doubt Gold will really die permanently anymore than Henry who is temporarily mostly dead. It just might set up a situation that requires more adventuring–perhaps the same way Phillips soul was reclaimed might be needed for Charming, Henry or anyone else who might “die”.
I think their answer about timing implies that both men pursuing are wrong on timing but otherwise equal in Emma’s mind. I don’t know if that is what Emma thinks.
