The Wiz is a famous take on the Wizard of Oz, moving it to an urban setting and featuring an all black cast.   If they are doing some scenes in NY, it might be that they’re updating and modernizing the tale!

That aside, she could be as POM said, an attempt to introduce diversity but I do think Tiana still works.    I’m extrapolating a lot from an animated character written for a 2 hour movie, mind you but I think she does have some skittishness.

She freaks out about the frog when she first sees it, she isn’t exactly thrilled to hear there’s alligators (cause they’d eat her!) and she is a bit shy about other people.  Her friends want to go dancing, and she doesn’t want to go, in part because she has to work, but in part because she sort of closes her self off.   The scene after the brokers go back on their word, implying something about her “background, Tiana just ends up falling into her food stand, rather than charging after the double-crosser greedy guys, and calling them out. She’s just sort of stunned.  Lottie comes and picks her up, and then forces Tiana into a new dress, while Tiana stands very shyly looking at herself.

There’s a piece of her that’s not confident and strong when it comes to things other than work, cooking and achieving her dream of her own restaurant.  So I could see a new take on her character playing up some of that insecure side.

Those were all so beautiful!  (But Henry looks very anime-manga ish to me in the winner–it’s still good but it just didn’t look as much like Jared lol).

I’m just going to repeat that zen story about good and bad luck being mixed up: Maybe.

We never know anything until …the end!  We have to just hang on and try to enjoy the things that make the story appealing to us.

And MRJ has been spotted filming again, so there is that ! Yay, yay!

why would it be a big spoiler? What if the character is a new character, an old friend of Emma’s? I don’t know, they can’t bee too close, because she has to be all sad and lonely in SB so it can’t be someone who was “there” for her all the time but an old friend who was good to her in jail (and was still there for years beyond her) could work. The other thought is, what if it is someone who ought to be stuck in SB, but they find a way to escape and to her surprise come to NY?  Oh we shall drive ourselves nuts.

We need to remember, Neal kissed Tamara and maybe “gave her a workout”, so if Emma is dating we already sort of accepted the idea that one can hold onto true love despite connecting quite intimately with another person when you think the one you want is out of reach or is dead or is better off without you.  True love in this show has not been shown to be that you become disinterested in anyone else ever–Rumple kissed Cora when she asked.  He did not shove her or make the gross, eww face the rest of us did. Or was that just me? Anyway,  Neal and Emma are not together, so as a real world girl Emma is likely to do things the traditional fairytale princess would not on her journey to finding where her heart is.

I really think the Shadow is not a real entity but a personification of Malcom’s doubts.  When kids come to NL, they believe in the whole-heated way kids do.   There is no doubt.  Adults on the other hand, well there’s always doubt and I think that’s why the Shadow appeared as it did, as well as the cave and the magic glass.   This is base don someone’s speculation on Tumblr, which I think I posted in the Shadow thread, but not sure if I do but it really makes sense to me.

In any case, August was “rebooted” like a computer, his wooden robot frame was exchanged for another “real boy” body just as BF did the spell the first time.   So it was different context, but she could have been sneaky trying to hide his knowledge.

They write BF popping up so suspiciously at that moment, with her its either plot convenience or a master plan, or plot convenience they’ve decided to retcon into Sneaky Fairy.

Does anyone know what the original content of Rumple’s father scenes shot and discarded were ? I thought he originally sees his father killed?

We don’t know enough of the mythology of hearts to answer.  Emma sacrificed herself when Cora tried to take Snow’s heart.  Cora was not reaching for Emma’s heart.

I felt reminded of Harry Potter’s story where it was sort of a self-fufilling prophecy that Harry himself was special.  When Emma believed in the strength of love, she made that real.  She is a child of true love but so are others (though there is only Aurora’s that we know for sure because of true love kiss rather than implied dialog, as for Charming and Snow’s parents.)

So is it an inherent thing as Rumple sort of implies, that he did not do anything, but it is what she is–or was the more important thing what she chose to do for love?

Evil is not born, nor evil powers, so why would good or good powers be?  Maybe, this type of power belief or love,  develops over time and is not instant.  Henry’s experiences in SB led him to be the type of person who could believe so strongly the way Pan needed.  The same perhaps with Emma.

It’s funny how I agree with what  Slurpeez and RG are saying–even though they’re saying opposite things–but it is to me like talking about a glass being half empty or full and that’s why I can agree with both.  There’s water in a glass, how we choose to describe it can give a different feeling to what we’re saying.

Slurpeez- I have hope, because of the things you mention.  RG on the other hand is pointing out the reasons that hope is not conviction.

Drama is conflict with uncertainty about the resolution.  The question is for me, not is there doubt that Neal and Emma can get back together? The question is, is there doubt they SHOULD?   The can part is always going to be needed for drama, because otherwise things like  “cliche” and “predictable” get tossed about, but even as they make it unlikely, they have to make it seem like a good thing too.   They do that by showing us how much these two care and want to be with each other.

So far, well, the storytelling has concentrated on Neal’s side of that equation and not as directly on Emma’s.  They’ll have Emma say she loves Neal, but then they aren’t showing us that she is happy to be with him (keeping the triangle alive!).  The ways that she has more hope and humor are subtle things that come down to interpretation of what she means.   We’re looking for it, so we see it.

Others aren’t and in fact would go to great lengths to avoid seeing anything good about Neal.  Some are open to seeing good qualities, but have doubts.   Then there are some who only say that they “want” to like him when it seems to me it isn’t that hard to like a character if you really WANT to like the character.  There’s a drawing I saw on Tumblr I need to find about another fandom to illustrate this, I will look for it and add later.

SF fans are the ones who want this story to happen and if we are made to wonder, “how can it” as opposed to “why should it” then I’m ok with it.  So that is why it is of concern to me how they choose to portray Neal and his actions in the past when they go into it again.

Of less concern is the rumors that Emma might be a bit self-indulgent in terms of enjoying herself with Hook who is, despite his past bad actions, portraying himself as a man who wants her, when she’s spent a lifetime feeling unwanted.  That’s appealing so I can see how that would be consistent with her character.  The part that isn’t is the part where he’s also a man with a complicated history with people she is supposed to “love” or consider family.   Saying that was all before he’d “redeemed” as if its like a curse was broken and he couldn’t backslide is to me bad writing in terms of how Emma should approach thinking of Hook.  She’s not a fairy tale character or fan girl.  She shouldn’t be so critical of Neal, Snow, and Charming, yet so nonchalant with Rumple, Regina or Hook.

While it is true we can be harder on those we care about and expect much from, compared to those we don’t rely upon–there is a point where that comes across as more than weakness of character, but flat out bad writing.  If Emma loves David and Snow, while she might try to bridge the gap with Regina for them, if she only and ever takes Regina’s side, then you have to question how much she does love David and Snow.  The same with Neal and Hook.

If she says she loves Neal, yet acts like she “doesn’t owe him anything” all the time, well love isn’t about “owing”–it is you don’t want to hurt people because you don’t want to see the ones you care about be sad.  So to me, seeing Emma WANT to hurt Neal by going for Hook that would ruin her character for me.  Neal didn’t seek out Tamara because he knew it would upset Emma, and he definitely did not know Tamara would put Henry in danger.

Emma on the other hand, well, she knows Hooks’ done it before, and she knows it would hurt Neal to some degree even if all she thinks is that Hook stabbed his estranged father over some woman named Milah.

The crew has not officially said (nor would they) who is filming or not.   Paparazi and fans do that, and have limited knowledge.  We just saw scenes last episode of Emma and Neal, and promo shows scene of Emma and Neal in 309 being onscreen.  So there may be a gap of a few episodes (they’re up to 313 maybe?) but it is not like the rest of the season is done already as some people sort of imply.  They frequently part characters to create drama so I don’t think it is unusual at all for how triangles play out as it is not always that they show each episode with equal time with both characters.

They could use Bailey Maddison for that backstory and give GG a break from filming.

They also could do a story where she gets transformed into something so she has to do voice overs–it is magic!
