Creepy thought but what Mal chose to do to himself, BF did to August.

This is even creepier when you think about how much August resembles Malcolm, and how pixie dust grows in trees.

Where exactly did Gepetto find this tree he carved?

So true Keb!  I am trying to think of one character who didn’t lose their parents prematurely ( as it is sadly inevitable at some point to happen unless everyone’s an immortal being).  I can think of some who have one parent, but none who have two–other than Henry of course who has 3 and may have more before this show is done if those parents marry other people.
Henry doesn’t just have a family tree, he has a Whomping Willow of a family tree.

    Interesting write-up Keb!

You left out one family member for Regina–Xavier!  Cora got love is weakness from Xavier, Henry Sr. Father.  I’m not the only one to wonder if Henry. Sr actually is Regina’s uncle or father :P.   Xavier was  a ruthless King.  He didn’t respect his own son even if he did not abandon him, and he talked Cora into marrying Henry. Sr. even knowing she had an imp lover!    What a piece of work that guy was.

I think some of Regina’s DNA obviously has that ruthlessness in it, so it isn’t just from Cora’s side.   I also found it interesting how Cora and Rumple had parallel father problems.  Their fathers were irresponsible and drunk, but of course Cora’s never left her until she left them.  Regina’s parents never left her either, until she pushed them out of her life.  Xavier on the other hand tried to basically make a puppet of Henry. sr., and a little bit, that is what Regina almost did with Henry.

^^^^We don’t…we gush and fangirl all over it, LOL  Forgot to mention that I love that Tumblr pic too with Emma staring right at Neal as her father hugs her. Somehow I totally missed that in the actual episode! Really nice moment and I agree with you guys about hoping we get more of these moments between them.

I missed that too! So much goes by that are small moments, they can be easy to miss.  This is a very subtle story for now, for sure.

Yes Malificient  would not work for Rumple-momma.  She might work for momma to Tink and Belle, or a predecessor to Tink as replacement for title of “Green”.   I just liked the Malificient-Malcolm name alliteration.

There is something though about this idea that magic “touches” people as it is something BF says to Bae.  Long as they do not bring  in the 7th son of a 7th son thing (well Rumple could be but Bae clearly was not).  I think there is a legend that gives you the gift of sight or something.  Malcolm though, he seems like he might not have kept track of his progeny.

I think Blue, Green and Red are sort of incarnations of the three fates.

BF has not changed, but was the youngest back then during the bean incident.  Something happened to the other two.  Jane E. said something like if BF had more management experience about dealing with Tink, in the Barbara Barnett interview, sort of inadvertently implying Blue had not been around forever in charge.  I think in the Sleeping Beauty myth it is the youngest fairy who undoes the death curse to a sleeping one, which in the movie is Merryweather who is dressed in blue.

BF tries to train replacements.  Green is Tink but she isn’t cut out for it, and Red is Nova but she almost quits for love.  So what if that is the history repeating, that the original red fell in love, had Malcolm, but died, perhaps breaking a rule and causing magic to die out in the Enchanted Forrest?

Probably going too far, but because I love Tinkermomma, maybe Tink’s  first mistake was having Belle, but she had to leave the baby (with Sir Maurice).  She got another chance though, years later she loses that helping a young Regina.

Or Malifcient, who is supposed to be a bad fairy and an old friend of Regina was originally Green but went evil, so Tink was her replacement (Tinker sister? )

They could do anything.   I know they intend to get into the wraith story and MAP whole story, plus Mulan is parked with Robin and we know he is returning.

I hope they get into the origin of fairies!

On the Spinners thread, I sort of suggested maybe Blue, Green and Red (the colors of Aurora’s fairies in the animated movie) fairies are the head fairies, and are also acting in the role of Fates.  The original Green and Red are long gone, but Blue was BF, and she tried to recruit and replace them, not quite successfully with Tink and Nova.  (I imagine Green or Red became  Maleficient, the other romanced Malcolm and had Rumple, but died).

Or maybe his mother is Maleficient because, why not.   Massive Family Reunion.

That is so cute!  I think there is a bit of that Ranisha, that Hook is the “fun” relationship, but that’s how Emma might see it, not Hook.  I think he’s looking for more, and is thinking in that “fairytale” mindset now.   Thing is, Emma probably doesn’t think that way and it might disturb her a little.
The writers are so tricky, because they use certain phrases knowing they’re loaded with meaning.  Shortcuts to get the emotional impact out of the audience, like when they gave Hook “As you wish”, but then turn around and have him say “when a woman wants to talk….”.   They do this with Neal too a bit–there’s things that make them seem very romantic and then things that make them seem like jerks.  For Neal I think most of that was in S2 when he was with Tamara, but he had a juvenile moment after being goaded by Hook.

Overall though, they’re keeping Neal in character with being noble but well,  he can be clueless in the same sort of way that a person with a good heart can be.  He doesn’t always think ill of others, so he’s not prepared when they punch him in the gut.  He’s an optimist, and that is what let’s him keep going after all the sorrow and pain he’s had in his life, but it does mean sometimes he’s kind of naive, which leads to him being cocky about the dangers.

I like how that offsets Emma’s natural pessimism (but I think she’s a frustrated optimist really!) and we see Emma having more hope when he’s around.  I hope the writers keep building this story between these two in a low-key way.

I hold out for BF Momma.  Or her friend fairy who died and she struggled to replace!
