After I watched the episode a second time (umm, I’ve watched it a third time now, too), I actually wondered if the episode was SUPPOSED to feel rushed because things DID happen very quickly once Emma believed vs. how time stood still for 28 years.
Now I tended to believe they deliberately rush it so they could do it twisted and slow in Season 2. Just to buy them some time.

I agree that they stuffed a TON into one episode, especially since they had to have known they were being renewed for a second season far before they filmed it based on the numbers for the show every week.
I was just so happy to finally see Rumple and Belle together that I honestly didn’t care whether it made sense or not. But once it was established that Belle didn’t remember who she was I wasn’t concerned about her being mad at Rumple for being locked up. None of the other characters had any realization that they had been suspended in time for 28 years so Belle wouldn’t have either. And I have always assumed that in FTL Belle figured out that it was Regina who tricked her so she didn’t blame Rumple for being locked away in FTL, so once she woke up she wouldn’t have had any reason to be mad at Rumple for being locked up in SB either.
After I watched the episode a second time (umm, I’ve watched it a third time now, too), I actually wondered if the episode was SUPPOSED to feel rushed because things DID happen very quickly once Emma believed vs. how time stood still for 28 years. And Rumple had FOREVER to plan for this moment and was putting everything into motion as planned when, SURPRISE, girlfriend suddenly shows up. So we get a nice, shocked, emotional moment – but because he had basically planned FOREVER for THIS ONE moment, he can’t stop what he is doing – he HAS to keep going to make sure his plan works.
Someone else made a point somewhere that I agree with that Regina isn’t the only one in town who is in danger without magic. Rumple is actually more vulnerable than Regina because he has his limp. He has a lot of people in SB who do not like him and he can’t get away from them without magic/power. Besides needing magic to find Bae I think needing magic is also a basic safety issue for him now. Because he suddenly has Belle that he also needs to protect he has even more reason to have to act quickly to get his magic/power back.
I saw a lot of people rationalize Rumple’s behavior. I understand why he has to do what he has to do. I’m just so disappointed that he didn’t learn anything after all these years. And I know he gonna screw everything up. And I felt so sad.

I don’t want to be labeled a hater, and I held off commenting right away, but I was disappointed with the finale. It has been mentioned a few places, it all seemed REALLY rushed. It would have been a fine finale if the show had been cancelled and they wanted to wrap up loose ends before they were done. But there is every reason to believe they have at least another season to work with. Specific issues:
Emma’s conversion was so sudden as to be laughable. I get that she was traumatized by Henry’s collapse, but I’m thinking I would be airlifting the kid to Mass. General for neurological testing before going with the diagnosis of CURSE. No MRI? No blood tests? Not even a cursory exam of the thing he ate immediately before collapsing? Instead, Emma goes right from, “Y’all are crazy with this curse thing,” to, “Sure, I’ll take a sword and go by myself down a loooooong elevator shaft and fight a dragon (in my high heels) in order to get a golden egg out of her middle because there is a bottle of true love in the egg which will heal my son from his mysterious ailment.” Or did holding the book, which she has held before, give her the flashbacks to things she has never seen and cause her to believe?
Rumple and Belle. This has been a big buildup and mystery as to how Regina was going to play the trump card and SHE DIDN’T EVEN PLAY IT!!! Jefferson decided to send Belle to Gold instead of taking her because…….? Just hoped she would figure out how to find her way around Storybrooke without being seen and without running into Regina, whose son is in the same hospital.
And Mr. Gold who was so worried that Bae would still be angry with him, didn’t even occur to him that Belle might still be angry? And why wasn’t she angry? Or at least a little bit hesitant? Or at least questioning as to whether this well-dressed gentleman was her lost grey-skinned love? I was looking forward to that reunion and, other than some nice acting by Carlyle, it just seemed to get passed by in the whirlwind of plot developments of the last 15 minutes of the show.

“Look kids. Big Ben. Parliament.”I need to watch again and hopefully it will grow on me. Right now, I’m a bit let down.
Totally agree. Too rush for everything. When Belle asked Rumple to wait, I don’t have time to prepare myself and she jumped right to the “I love you” part!! And for Rumple’s choice of power, I won’t be sorry if I saw Belle break up with him in Season 2. He had it coming. The only thing I will say to him is “Told you so”. You can’t keep doing the same thing and expecting different outcomes. That’s insane!!!!
Although it’s a satisfying ending for Belle (comparing to her previous situation), every scenario I played for Belle and Rumpelstiltskin ends badly in Season 2. 🙁 I hate seeing the writer torture Belle. I will be heart broken.
Why can’t someone like good guys like Archie? There are already too many nasty guys in reality. After seeing what Mr. Gold has done/chose, I will be an official Archie fan from now on. Looking forward to his love story in Season 2.

yeah, fond of her in Game of Throne.

No, I don’t feel that their reunion is cheesy at all…Rumplestiltskin is a tortured soul and he deserved this one happy ending. Plus all the rumbelle fandom is exploding with tears of joy tonight 😀 😀 😀
Although it did feel like too much progressed too fast…I think this is a way for the writers to satisfy the Rumbelle fans right away..and then really dig into the plot for season 2..ofcourse exploring the theme of love vs. power as it would seem. They have Regina’s mother coming back in season 2…so I feel we will explore those topics alot 😉
I don’t think the reunion leads to a happy ending of any kind, but rather a sad one, given Rumplestiltskin’s obsession with power. I know the writer will torture the couple in season 2, I just can’t stand to see him paying the price he couldn’t afford. It’s bad enough to lose someone once.
khaleesiParticipantI guess Belle will be just called Mrs. Gold in season 2. An unhappy Mrs. Gold I suppose.

Their reunion felt unrealistic. That Belle wouldn’t be angry. Though at least she was in a haze in Storybrooke and wasn’t stuck down there going insane remembering for 28 years. And where are the two of them going to go now. I think that people won’t be able to leave town otherwise everyone would just leave town.
Exactly. their feeling towards each other doesn’t feel genuine. It just not look like someone saw a dead girl friend coming back to life. Belle didn’t look like she has been locked away for 28 years at all. And when she remembered, I can’t believe she just simply said “I love you”, given everything she went through. Just doesn’t feel right.
khaleesiParticipantI want to throw things, not because what they did in the finale, but what they are going to do in Season 2. I can see no happy ending for Belle and Gold at all. Plus the reunion is cliche and cheesy.
khaleesiParticipantDon’t you guys find the Rumbelle reunion quite cheesy, very opposite to Skin Deep?

Their happy moment won’t last. You can see it a mile away. Their relationship will die because his need for power is much more than his need for love. Maybe that will change with Belle, but blah….he didn’t learn his first lesson with Bae.
Not surprised the dark turn of Mr. Gold. Since he gave in to evil again, I can see cloud over Belle’s future. Maybe in Season 2, she will become Mrs. Gold directly (since the writer didn’t give her name away). But how sad it is to live with someone so evil. Belle will have to leave him again in season 2, cause as you said, Mr. Gold didn’t learn his lesson.
Kinda of makes you sad, doesn’t it? That Mr. Gold is his worse own enemy. He seems like he wants to be hugged, but he just screws everything up because his fear of become a coward or being the weak man that he was.
He has money. That’s power. Why he want more power? Didn’t he burn enough and pay enough price? All magic comes with a price. He knows that. This time he will definitely lose Belle again. If Belle didn’t die in FTL, she might very likely die in SB, to pay for what he did and what he is going to do.
I know what the write gonna do. They gonna torture Belle and Gold. I really really hate seeing that happen. I will be restless.
