That was my initial reaction but when you stop and think about what Jane said and how cancer works it makes sense. Cancer can be caused by a mutation in your genes. Like when something in the environment causes a change and you genes become altered in the cancerous cell and that cell multiplies like crazy. Certain chemicals and radiation can do that. Sometimes the gene is already there and somewhat dormant and than triggered by something. Think the breast cancer gene.

Yep I agree. And I should know, since I use chemistry everyday for a living. Lol.

I just had an EPIPHANY earlier. Well it’s not that amazing. I was talking about next weeks episode being a Neal/Rumple centered episode and how it will probably be paralleling their “Nasty Habits”. And then I said that there would be a contrast with episode 5, which is called “Good Form” and is a Killian (and Emma?) centered episode.

The names of the episodes are the complete opposites of each other. Perfect for comparison/contrast. And isn’t that interesting? 😉

Rumple fathered Bae before he became the dark one. Therefore the “dark genes” shouldn’t really affect Bae because he was conceived when Rumple was a normal man.

That’s what I thought too. But the fact that Pan said that Henry was a child of darkness counteracts that, because Henry came from Bae, who came from Rumple. I’m not sure how it works. But this is A+E’s show, they know what makes sense to them.

What i’m getting from Pan’s statement is that maybe Henry is acting as some sort of balance good and evil. It’s obviously important to Pan that the HoTTB came from both light and darkness. Not sure why that is, but can’t wait to see!

Basically she is saying that Darkness is a mutagenic carcinogen like radiation/asbsetos/other cancer causing substance. So when Rumple took on the dark one mantel, he cursed his line with the cancer of darkness, which is why Henry is the product off both darkness and love. This is very intriguing to me.

Darkness, like other environmental influences, can alter the genes

Very interesting. This just backs up what we’ve been saying about Neal all along – he has a capability for darkness, which we saw today. He has started along same path as Rumple, and possibly even darkened his heart with what he did.

    Remember what Regina said?

You’ve darkened yourself. And once that happens it only gets darker…. and darker.

The difference with Henry is that he has the genes of light in him as well to counteract that darkness.

I gotta say, MJR is good at playing the villain. It’ll be interesting if it should actually happen.

And also, as to the “roasted swan” thing? Total reference to future antipathy between Regina and Emma.

In Manhattan Rumple was genuinely surprised that his son and Emma had been together.

If in fact it was a reference to Swanfire, it’s not a very romantic one IMO. That Swan was dead, “couldn’t fly anymore” and was about to be eaten. Just saying. 😉

    Agreed with everything MysteryKat!!!! 😉

That Tink thing, with her watching them, some are taking that to mean that she’s jealous of Emma because she has Killian. Now, *something* may have happened between them before (MAY HAVE) but if it did, she is not an obstacle to the CS ship, no way. If you look at that coconut scene Killian only EVER has eyes for Emma, looking up at her with puppy dog eyes, generally thinking she’s amazing etc. (killing myself with feels here). Not to mention the fact that Killian gave up his revenge for Emma, not for Tink.

Now, I think that she was watching them in more of an assessing way but I could be wrong. She has to know Killian’s history with love, it was the whole reason he was in NL in the first place and they appear to be friends. It’s funny though, because Tink actually has no idea of the dynamic of the group, and I wouldn’t actually be surprised to discover that she thinks that Captain Swan are a couple. She sees these two (True Love) pairings enjoying each others company and then immediately goes over to Regina to talk to her about her second chance at love, and not just any love, the soulmate kind. I’m thinking that she knows about Milah and possibly is thinking “good for Hook, he got his second chance” and it was THAT that spurred her into talking to Regina about hers.

This quote from Tink that scene has me thinking:

Unreal. Do you know how selfish that is? You didn’t just ruin your life. You ruined his.

I’m thinking that she’s going to say that to Emma at some stage in the future about Killian. Why else would they introduce this concept in this particular way…? I don’t know. Pure speculation!!

Yes MysteryKat, that was the most interesting thing about the Regina “boyfriend” scene (apart from the fact that Emma didn’t outright refute it, Snow did) is that if she was trying to dispel that thought from Regina’s head afterwards she went about it in the wrong way lol. She was sitting with Killian across from her parents in genuine comraderie, KNOWING how he feels about her, in full view of Regina. If Emma was TRULY unreceptive, not returning any feelings whatsoever, she would be INITIATING DISTANCE between them. I know I would attempt to avoid someone like the plague if I didn’t return romantic feelings for them. Emma’s mind may not be feeling romance, but her body is, and her heart is.

Yeah, like I was saying, finding it EXTREMELY odd that Snow is noticing nothing between Emma and Killian. She was so observant when it came to Graham, and Emma was a lot better at hiding her feelings for him than with Killian IMO. But then, she hasn’t really noticed that her husband is in extreme pain and dying either. Maybe NL is throwing her off-kilter. Lol.

From the promo as well, it looks like Rumple is training Neal is some way. Who did he train before? Cora and Regina. I’m sorry, but it’s looking more and more like Neal will follow his fathers character arc. Neal is just not Baelfire anymore, he has been changed, possibly by Pan. Baelfire saved the Darling boy from the clutches of the Shadow, and yet, as we saw today, was willing to risk a child to fulfil his own needs. No matter how anyone tries to sugar coat his actions, he still willingly and knowingly put a child in danger of being taken by the Shadow to a villain who is, in Neal’s words, “hands down the nastiest villain I’ve ever met”. Huh? It just makes no sense to me.

And then there was the fact that Pan said that Henry was the child of darkness and light. This indicates to me that Neal has more than a high chance of turning towards darkness. I just hope he doesn’t get to the ripping out hearts stage like Rumple did to Milah (but we know Emma can’t have her heart ripped out so the parallels end there). We learned that Emma’s heart can’t get ripped out for a reason. It’s either in relation to the Heart of the Truest Believer, or (and!) she is Killian’s soulmate. I guess we’ll see soon enough. (spoiler: Emma is Killian’s TL for those who are nervous! Lol)

Just wanted to emphasise also, that I never have actually hated Neal, he’s made some VERY poor choices yes, and with regards to Emma I just do not want them together. I don’t want to demonise him or anything. Hook too has made some very poor life choices. But the difference is that he’s proving every day that actions speak louder than words, redeeming himself wordlessly, not talking talking talking about it. Whereas Neal, to me, he’s just all talk, saying he wants one thing, and then making bad, selfish choices.

After this episode my feelings about him slid down a little further. I was middling in the “indifferent” to him phase and now i’m heading down to the disliking him phase.

I’m pretty sure i’m not the only one, and i’m pretty sure it was done on purpose.

Okay, so there was only one good Captain Swan moment this week, bit confused because they DID recap their conversation from last week. But anyway. Some thoughts. Great episode!

So yeah, Regina sees that something is going on between them. Which is surprising, because you think that it would actually be Snow that would. And Regina actually seemed surprised that no one else was picking up on it. Also interesting to note that Emma didn’t fire back at her, which is good for us at this point. She merely did what ANYONE would have said when their secret crush was exposed before they were ready: denial denial denial. That’s how I saw it anyway.

Captain Swan were still very much a team in this episode, a recurring them in all the JR5 scenes is that Snowing are on one side, Regina in the middle and Captain Swan on the other side. Interesting, right? 😉

THE COCONUT SCENE my God the cuteness, they’re sitting together and he’s puncturing coconuts for her and they’re all comfortable with each other and he’s looking at her adoringly it was just soooo CUTE I needed more Captain Swan though like seriously, but we have been spoiled for the last two weeks. But seriously, body language, body language, body language. It’s so important. And also, there is a DEFINITE drinks pattern emerging here. It wasn’t rum, but it was a very conspicuous scene of them sharing a drink together. This scene also wasn’t necessary to the storyline at that time, and yet, we have a shot of them enjoying each others company. Significant.

So all in all, this week WAS actually good for us. Writers don’t use the term “boyfriend” when you don’t want those two people to be associated together. The director has continually reinforced our impression that they are a team and are getting us used to seeing them together. And the actors have reinforced our impression of this with close, comfortable body language.

MY GOD Neal annoyed the crap out of me in this episode. He wanted to use a four year old boy as bait for the worst villain ever? Seriously? And then proceeded to emotionally blackmail RH into using him? Really? And even though it’s done now, THAT BOY WAS SLEEPING UNDER THE WINDOW which does NOT bode well. There’s no way that’s the end of it. RH has to make it to NL somehow; that shadow is coming back for Roland and I cannot believe how unbelievably selfish it was for Neal to do that. Was this supposed to make me like him???? IF SO THEY’RE DOING IT WRONG. Using Roland to get to NL was the very DEFINITION of taking the easy way out, which we know Neal likes to do. Using Roland wasn’t even a last resort! He just saw the kid and then poof, did that, didn’t even ATTEMPT to find another way. Just ugh.

So yeah, we’re consistently seeing Neal making the wrong choices, taking the easy way out. There were other ways to get to NL, HARDER ways yes, but morally stronger ways. What did Snow say last season? “Let’s take the hard path”. Snow took the easy way out and her heart was blackened. Honestly? After Neal’s actions tonight I wouldn’t be surprised if his was. And it’s sooo sad. What happened to little Baelfire to turn him into this?

Also, HUGELY interesting to note, that they paralleled Mulan’s situation with Neal’s in 3×01 right? The fact of Mulan loving someone and only NOW going to tell them showed that it was not enough to make the relationship work. It was too LATE. Sensing a common theme here with this late business. Also interesting to note that the couple are a TL couple.

Thoughts on next weeks promo: Snow insisting that she couldn’t move on if Charming died. HMMMM. Interesting. NEVERMIND that she wouldn’t be able to “move on” while he was still alive and breathing. You feel me? 😉

    Thoughts for “Nasty Habits”.

So yeah, from the promo you can see that Neal and Rumple have reunited finally. We just saw the awful risks Neal took to get to NL. We know magic has a price. There is no way Neal getting to NL won’t be without consequences. Anyway, Neal took the easy way out, much like his father does. and both Neal and Rumple have done it before. I don’t think that Neal and Rumple meeting up in an episode called “nasty habits” is a coincidence to be honest. We CSers have previously acknowledged the theory that Neal is going to go down a bad road, and has been paralleled to his father in a lot of ways. I don’t know about you, but this episode seems to have started that. I could be wrong. But it’s also interesting to note that 3×05 is the Killian Jones episode, which will provide a very interesting contrast to Nasty Habits. But we’ll see.

This episode was focussed heavily on Neal, and not in a good way. The way I see it, is that the big picture is that Neal is seeking redemption for his sins against Emma through darkness, whereas we have Captain Hook who is seeking redemption with Emma through goodness.

I have a feeling we were right on the money with all our theories guys. But I guess we’ll see.
