Reviews, theories, and talk about ABC's Once Upon a Time TV show
But all that good stuff is overshadowed by how random it was that this is how the Dark One curse is affecting Emma, when it’s not what we’ve seen previously. Rumple didn’t ooze out of the Vault, and he didn’t have Zoso haunting his thoughts. He stabbed the guy, the dark magic went into him, and BOOM, DONE. They made no attempt to explain why it’s happening differently this time, so no matter how well it’s been acted thus far, the whole premise is really rather annoying to me.
The thing you dislike about how the Dark One curse is explained right now can go three ways at the moment:

In Rumple’s case the previous Dark One did die indeed. That has (as far as we know) never happened before since the First Dark One.

Time jumps. It has been several times now that several episode intertwine eachother when you put them in chronoligical order. So there might have been time, mostly because the Dark One can’t sleep, to have the Dark One (in the shape of Zoso) teach Rumplestilskin how to be the Dark One.

With the histories and personalities of both Emma and Rumplestilskin (from roughly 200 years ago) set next to eachother Emma is a much stronger and resiliant person than that Rumplestilskin was, which was a coward. So Emma would put a much bigger fight against the Darkness that consumes her than Rumplestilskin would.
