Maybe she’s mourning loosing her family–be it her adopted Oz family (Queen Eva, her adopted sister, in my headcanon or even loosing the chance to know her mother, Cora)
Do you think that Zelly could be the product of Cora and Eva’s father? That would make her not only Regina’s half sister but Snow’s half aunt.

All the evils have lost something that they loved. When you lose something you love a piece of you dies along with that person. It is the reason they become dark in the first place. Evil is not born it is made.
