lecygneParticipant
The treatment is not respectful of the 2.5 seasons of past material or the thousands of Neal fans who had hope in this show. It could have been and should have been handled with tact and sensitivity. Instead, it has been callous and (re:Twitter) flippant/dismissive.
I can’t imagine a show doing more to alienate one segment of viewers or being more OOC with itself to please another. It’s a crying shame.
[adrotate group="5"]lecygneParticipantThanks for the highlights, RG. I don’t think I can even bear the synopses at this point. Perhaps I need to read a great fan fic that for real ties up everything, and then just move on.
lecygneParticipantUgh. That Wondercon article. Are you kidding me? Shipper payoff and Neal’s death as meaningful. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.
lecygneParticipantI keep coming back to those promotional posters: believe in second chances & believe a pirate can be a hero.
Does Neal get a second chance at life/fatherhood while Hook becomes a hero by making a huge heartfelt, selfless sacrifice?
Or did Neal seize his second chance at dying/leaving Henry fatherless while Hook redefines a hero as a pirate?
lecygneParticipantThe bandwagon is getting crowded I see, but yeah I’m on board. I said something of the sort in chat a few days ago, that because of the whole ‘we felt his/her arc was done’ thing I initially leaned towards Hook being a goner. However, now, if Hook somehow does leave the show by the end of the season I will be VERY surprised. ABC just seems incredibly attached to Hook, their popular character who reels in the viewers. I don’t see them letting go of him any time soon.
I am here with you. On the one hand, what was his point other than ridiculous third point in the triangle? Now that he’s the only other point in the deflated triangle… well…
And I always felt it was suspicious how he was traipsed out on these special occasion promos with Emma and maybe one other person, like he was the crown-prince of the show. I don’t know why you would make him the face of the program, let him be in the center of your 3 part promo pictures, etc. just to kill him.
EDIT: How Colin was traipsed out with JMo. Let me not confuse the actors with their characters.
lecygneParticipantIt’s interesting, lecygne, that you feel Neal is irrelevant. I disagree, and I think we’ll see him crop back up.
Just to clarify, *I* don’t think he’s irrelevant. I think he’s being written as irrelevant. He was still relevant in S1 because he was out there somewhere. He was still relevant through the portal because, no body, no death. He has been “buried” now, and I fear that his removal from the plot and his complete absence from everything makes him irrelevant to the GVA. I know what you mean, DSB, and I’m not arguing. I just want to be clear that I think he is the heart of the show! I hope you are right!
Removing these characters – delaying their reactions, as it were – is a way to advance plot now and re-introduce the character as relevant down the line.
I’m not sure the audience will see it that way, but again, I would love to see it happen.
Am I the ONLY one on that bandwagon? It just makes sense to me, but I begin to question myself as I feel like I am floating out here all alone, lol.
I keep coming back to this place, bouncing between hope and devastation. You, Phee, Heather, and others often pull me off the edge of the cliff. RG keeps me grounded.
lecygneParticipantWhere is the photoshopped image of Hook’s face on the Fonz’ body on waterskis? I keep waiting for that. Maybe leaping over a grave?
More than anything, though, I just don’t know how they could bring a character back after episodes and episodes of his being irrelevant. (And this statement precedes Neal’s death even.) To bring him back would be every bit as weird as killing him off. He is a non-entity. He is no longer necessary. In fact, to hear A&E talk, he was never necessary. What has Neal’s life and death meant at this point? Nearly nothing other than kicking off the curse and providing DNA for Henry. If this is the grand story, if CS is end game, if Neal dies randomly and OOC, if Neal HAS to die to make way for the “real story,” why even include an actor to play Neal? The character could have died any time in the last 10 years, without meeting Henry, without reconnecting with Emma/Rumple… that is where we are now, right? What is the difference?
I guess unless we had to have adult Bae for the express purpose of reconciling with Hook. Since it’s all about Hook, then I guess they did have to meet up and eat jello or whatever. After all, the Hook-Neal scene was more important than Neal EVER kissing Emma or saying good-bye to Henry/Rumple.
And I don’t care to apologize to CS fans if they troll this thread. Enjoy YOUR show. We’ll enjoy our thread and fan fic.
lecygneParticipantThey can’t bring him back. The 250 Swanfire fans are the only people who remember him. Writers, actors, characters, and viewers have already forgotten him… Unless they’re CS fans who hated him, in which case they would revolt if he returned.
lecygneParticipantScoot over and keep making room in that tent! The only reason why I continue to come here is because I still have HOPE that this cannot possibly be what it seems.
lecygneParticipantThere are days when I think I’m just a Nealfire fan. That I’d be okay if Emma ended up with Hook as long as Neal still lived. And while I know that him alive would still be better than this merde, I see stuff like this and I’m like, “SWANFIRE! How could she end up with anyone else?!”
